2015-2016 University of Washington Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats on the II guys! 🙂

Just submitted my secondary! I might have missed this earlier but just wanted to ask if we are supposed to voluntarily submit residency verification information? It is incomplete on my portal but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to wait until they ask for info or were we supposed to provide papers? Thanks in advance!!

@mavric1298 and @charlie517 I'm not sure why I heard back so fast, and thanks! The admissions office said it's normal to wait 4-6 weeks about interview invitations once they receive secondary. So hang in there, there's plenty of time left!

If your file says residency verification incomplete, and you have not gotten the "Application complete" email, then you do have to turn in that residency verification! It takes a bit too! your file won't be considered ready for review until you do. You should have gotten an email for residency verification the same day or a few days after the secondary request letting you know who to contact to get it done. Check in the portal via this say STATUS > COMMUNICATION STATUS

For a complete file you should have at least 3/4 (some people do not get the residency verification slot:
4. Completed Application
3. Secondary Application Complete
2. Verification of Legal Residence
1. Secondary Application Request

If you are a WA resident, I suggest getting all the paper done and going to their office in Schmidt and giving it to Daniel, he is in charge of approvals. 🙂 can take from 4-6 weeks but depends on load. He also handles the undergrad. Some people got it done in 2 weeks because they got him on a good week of low files received.

Hope this helps!

Submitted my secondary today and marked complete today, IS. Hoping for the best... Non trad ~28, 3.9, killer ECs.

Anyone know if they show preference to legacies at UW? Most secondaries have some sort of box to check or line to fill in with parent/family UW affiliation but didn't see anything on this one.

OH WOW. Thank you so much for your response. It is SO helpful. I have never received such email about residency verification, neither in my inbox or under communications in my portal. However, it seems like I need to compete it as the residency verification slot is red. Very strange....
I'm worried that I will have to wait for the residency verification for a while before my application can be complete and reviewed 🙁 . I will call them tomorrow.

Thank you so much!!! Really appreciated it!

No worries!

If you did not get it to your email, definitely check the communication status for it. If it's not there, call them asap. If you are in state though, you can download the form here : http://www.washington.edu/students/reg/residency/medicalStudents.html Fill it out and take it with you to the office (along with your proofs: registration, license, rent, voters card, etc etc). Make sure you say your are a Medical Student Prospect since they have to CC them in the email decision. 🙂

Good luck (and from my understanding...you won't be complete until it is verified 🙁 )

Just to confuse things more, mine is like that but I'm marked complete without doing it and without the communication from them.

Hey! So is your residency verification tab red but the application complete tab green? How long did it take to complete?? Thanks!!

Edit: nvm! I see that it took a week. I'm calling them just to make sure! thanks!

😀 IIs @ 3:50pm ish!!!!!!!!! WOOOOO-HHHOOOOOOO 😀🤣

If your application says complete (green) then you are fine! It's only if they asked for a verification. Then you will see the verification red AND Application complete red.

Congratulations!!! I've been rooting for you 🙂

Rejected post-mission statement and pre-secondary today. OOR (so not surprised at all), LizzyM ~70. Best of luck everyone 🙂

For those with IIs....did you get the second email where it states when you can schedule it? Or do any of you guys have access to the dates available yet?

Also, I forgot to post:
My primary was verified by AMCAS 6/29.
I received secondary invitation 7/6.
I received Residency verification 7/9.
I submitted secondary 7/21.
I received residency verification 8/19.
Application complete 8/21.
I got an interview invitation 8/26.

Congratulations!!! I've been rooting for you 🙂

Thanks SallySue! XD

I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking about calling them?

A friend who got in last year told me it took about a month before she got a date scheduled, after getting an II email that pretty much said "we will definitely interview you, we just don't know what day yet."

I don't know about calling personally since it's been days for me, but maybe in a week or so..

After reading last year's thread, (for WA) it seems like they send out the II email without a date and then follow up a couple of weeks (or just one week) before the actual date to let you know.

"After your application has been evaluated, we will notify you in writing of your status. This process can take 4-6 weeks."

Any other completed IS already hit the 6 week mark? Last years thread shows that the school is really good about sticking to this timeline.

I'll be hitting it tomorrow.

IS submitted my secondary on July 20th with pretty decent stats/ECs. I wouldn't worry too much about it, UW is just getting rolling.

Wow.... I just got rejected. IS applicant.... Completely stunned right now...

IS, complete 7/24, still silent.

Sorry to hear Dr.Pilot

Afraid this might also be my fate. Complete 7/24, re-applicant, and no word... Re-reading my secondary and wondering what did I say/not say??? Hang in there. Life goes on.

I think I might literally have been the first IS rejection of the cycle.

I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking about calling them?

Just asked a friend who interviewed last cycle. He mentioned that they sent out the invite...then about 4 weeks out from the invite they send you a date for interview (so he doesn't think we will get to choose a date...which is a huge bummer for me...may have to call them).

OOS. Submitted mission statement on 8/3. No word yet about secondary. Anyone else in this boat?

You don't get to pick a date. They assign you the date. I mean, it's not like there are many schools in the area to coordinate interviews with. And the admissions are not really rolling so being interviewed early won't help you out. So it really doesn't matter too much when you interview.

II 9/3 OMG WOW!!?!? Ohh jeeeezzzzz. The dates available will make this my first interview of the season. Gosh this is so nerve racking right now. Oh gosh.

Whoa...that's like a a week notice....dang! i hope that doesn't occur to me...im so not ready! I was about to start moc interviews this month!

@BABSstudent Thanks! I thought admissions ARE rolling for UW? 😵 am I totally misinformed?! I am going away for 3 weeks in october...so I hope its either right before or after my trip! Could you tell me more about the none rolling admissions? Do you know if it would be best to send admissions an email with my dates away?

They start admitting right away but accept a majority of the class in March, a few months after interviews are done. So don't fret if you don't interview the first month. I would rather have practice before the real interview than have it be the first one since they are not real rolling admissions at other schools where the class roster is filled by December and other interviews are for waitlist seats.

Awesome! Good to know! I almost wish all schools had the transparency that UMich does. They keep trackers with the # of students accepted. I definitely rather be prepared...so I may postpone any interview dates before oct 25th to after. Thank Babs!

I love working night shift ... I sleep through the entire "business day", so I don't have to panic everytime I hear my email tone go off on my phone 🙂 Just get to check it at 6PM when I wake up!

Today is 6 weeks since i've been complete! Seems like UW is taking quite a while to process applications as few people have reported getting IIs on this thread. And, if i'm not mistaken, no one who submitted before August has heard anything. This process man....

So I remember hearing that UW doesn't have a white coat ceremony and being pretty bummed.....BUT I just saw they had a white coat ceremony ...am I missing something? Is it a stethoscope ceremony or white coat...or both 🙂

"About 100 first-year medical students, officially the Class of 2015..." <Uw page

EDIT: Just wondering....because I'm making up little fairy tale dreams in my head of getting in and rocking it....by rocking it I mean not tripping/falling more than once. 😛

There is a stethoscope ceremony in the first year, and the white coat ceremony in the 3rd year.

So there are 2 ceremonies total.

This is true for the Seattle campus. Apparently the WWAMI sites give coats right away. So if you want a white coat, go to the Spokane site.

Edit: Scratch that. Apparently they give them to all first years now during orientation week. I'm a third year and I literally got mine like three months ago before rotations. I feel bad for everyone getting the coat that early because my friends that went to other medical schools were excited about the coat but then felt the imposter syndrome. At least after two years and a board exam you feel like you finally earned it.

Yup it definitely happened today, my friends in the class of 2019 posted white coat photos today!
@BABSstudent it might have to do with the new curriculum?

Dang, I actually liked the fact they hold off on the white coats until 3rd year. Makes you really feel like you worked for it.

So yeah, I just looked further into the comments from the pictures UW posted and UWSOM responded that its what they will start doing with the new curriculum since you will be getting exposed to "clinical" settings from the get go ...dun dun DUN!

How long does it take to get your interview time once you get the invite email?? Sorry if this has been answered..

@BABSstudent do you know how many students UW accepts relative to their matriculation number?

Hi everyone,
I'm out of state and submitted my mission statement exactly mid july and haven't heard anything back yet. BUT I realized that I haven't designated letters to UW on amcas; the page where I submitted the mission statement doesn't have any sort of checklist, it only has a notification saying that "For out-of-region applicants: we do not consider letters of recommendation when conducting the preliminary review of your application. This means that your letters do not need to be received before submitting your mission statement essay." Does this mean I should have submitted letters after sending in my mission statement response, or should I wait until I receive and submit the secondary to do that.
Thanks to those who can help.
