I am surprised we haven't started to hear anything yet. In waiting this long to start their regular schedule of EXCOM meetings, I feel UW would get behind in reviewing applicants and making admission offers. Wouldn't they start to miss out on very qualified applicants that have already decided to attend school elsewhere? Just my two cents!

Either way...hoping to get some good news this week!

Even stranger, ahoffmann16 mentioned that he/she had already received an acceptance, albeit an accidentally premature one. This means that they have presumably already had the meeting and have just not got around to notifying any of us... haha the suspense is killing me!

As far as missing out on qualified applicants, I'm not sure they have much to worry about. They still start the application process relatively early and are one of the top state schools in the country.

Oh well, not much we can do besides sit tight and wait at this point. Best of luck!
 
I just got a secondary today after submitting the mission statement on 8/18. OOS LizzyM 67.5. Do y'all think it's worth submitting the secondary? Does anyone know how many OOS-ers are given secondaries?
 
Finally got my OOR rejection today post mission statement. That only took 12 weeks. 😵 Good luck everyone!!

Isn't the cost to submit a secondary like $35? It was by far the cheapest secondary I completed. Plus, it's impossible to get an acceptance without trying. I say go for it.

I'd say just relax and be yourself. It's a very relaxed interview. Be prepared to answer "why medicine" and try to show empathy in the role play. Know your app. Know what your research is about if you've done some. Be enthusiastic. Pretty much just standard interview advice but there you go 🙂

So you did have a role play? My friend interviewed on the 19th. She said no role play, just a regular conversation about what she wanted to pursue within medicine and why medicine as well as her application stuff. But from last year I heard crazy stories. Like super intense role play and healthcare policy questions.

Don't stress about it. If you have any common sense you'll be fine. From what I've heard or seen, almost everyone gets some role play or ethical situation, or policy question. Hell, I had all 3 back to back to back.

Yeah I think almost everyone gets a role play. It's really not something to worry about at all though
 
Yeah i was definitely asked a role play question and question about medicare stuff. The role play question was sort of hard but i think they were mostly just interested how you interact with patients and if you ask questions and listening which i think (hope) i did well at. The content was kind of difficult but we're not expected to know standard of care stuff so it really wasnt too bad
 
I think this is the latest decisions have not been out. Is UW going to be the last school to start giving them out? The wait is exciting, but killing me 🙁
 
Interviewed last week, received SUC email tonight 🙁
 
Got the still under consideration email.. A part of me died inside
 
Just got SUC'ed. Wow! I am relieved!!!! I had CONVINCED myself it was going to be a rejection.

Now my friends (@Fedekz @rlarudtjs332 @SSSMDt), let strap in for the long haul. We've got many more months of waiting. We can do this!!! :luck: :xf:

Interested in some data as well. My understanding is that the bar to accept gets lower every meeting, so those who didn't make the cut early on get SUC'd, then maybe 2 months later they meet the criteria to be accepted.

But I'd like to see some statistics or numbers on this
 
Is suc different from waitlist? If so which one has a better change of getting accepted?

Yeah, they are different. An applicant can be SUC'ed from the time they interview until March. In March, the AdCom sends out final acceptances and forms a waitlist. The WA/OOR waitlist normally has good movement. So neither is better than the other, they are just totally different.

SUC'd as well! Holy moly! Must have been a tough adcom meeting. Ah well, feels good to have company. And the waiting continues... good luck guys!

So do they reevaluate us each adcom meeting? Will we get an email after every adcom meeting regarding our status?
 
We can be accepted at anytime between now and March still right, like we get re evaluated/reviewed at each EXCOM meeting?
 
Thanks for the info everyone! i have my ii coming up and I am very VERY nervous.

Too everyone with SUC's...sorry it's not an acceptance but still on the road for a yes right?!

Any rejections out there that people would be willing to reflect on?

Yes they reevaluate and bring everyone SUC'ed back at every meeting to make a decision which could be a yes, no, or still SUC

@SSSMDt I don't know if you get an email saying you are still SUC though

I was actually wondering about that. A lot of school no longer accept updates until AFTER an II is given out. But UW mentions that they do not accept updates & that once you have an II that's the time to update admissions about your activities...so I don't know if they are referring to verbally stating it during the interview, bringing a page to turn in with all your updates, or if anytime after the II you can send an email...and one does not want to be that one person who can't follow directions so..any guidance?
 
FYI my friend who got in last year got the SUC one day, and got in the very next day. So SUC definitely can be a short experience.
 
SUC'd here. Any strategy to being in this position? I was preparing to write an update letter, but I suppose that might be moot if they don't accept them 🙁
 
My SUC email said this pool has a 32.5% chance of getting in. I wonder if that include waitlist movement...probably not (I hope).

Based on last year's stats, for WWAMI the percentage of Accepted from Interviewed was 35.5%; 32.7% for OOR; and total 35.15%, considering that, your changes as SUC are pretty equivalent no?
 
Y'all this is what they meant when they said the majority of the class is not notified of acceptance until March. Most people get put aside until then, don't expect to accepted during the application season.

I wanna know this, too. I just got a new job but I'm still waiting to schedule after my II.

I'm not sure this is accurate. Looking at MSAR there were 409 IS interviews and 121 acceptances. However, a common rule of thumb is that schools accept between 2-3x as many students as the number that ultimately matriculates. Assuming that holds for UW, i think the odds of getting in post-interview are closer to 55-85%.

I could be wrong, but this seems to be the trent for most schools.

I'm not sure we can use that rule of thumb for UW. It's many people's top choice, so if UW accepted 2-3x its class size, they may end up with 2-3x too many students. I like the optimism though 🙂

I agree with @parachichi. At UW, most ISer who are accepted ultimately choose to matriculate. They probably only needed to accept ~140 WA residents at most to fill those ~120 spots.

UW is seriously loved! 89% of accepted IS students ultimately matriculate. Super impressive.

You are correct. The seats are highly coveted and the school is a top 10 medical school. If accepted, most students don't turn it down unless they have an acceptance at an even better school. For example, a friend of mine turned down UW because they were accepted to Harvard. Pretty much everyone else will turn down "lesser" schools just because the name recognition of UW will put you ahead when it comes to residency applications even if the other schools offer scholarships or are cheaper.
 
I do agree that because it is a state school that rule of thumb may not be as applicable. I still doubt it's 140 acceptances for 120 seats. That said, its all really just speculation. But i suppose that's all we have to do while we wait to hear from schools!!

What is interesting is that the better the school, the more acceptances they seem to give compared to the spots they have. I've heard the thinking behind that is that if it's a top school, the students that are getting multiple acceptances at other great schools.

How much ahead does UW really put you for residency? Compared to the few other schools that are in the top 25 for both primary care and research?
Isn't it pretty much all the same when the schools are all very well ranked?
