2015-2016 Wake Forest University Application Thread

MSAR says we can submit up to 8 LoR, but only gives us the option to write about 2 of them

I checked their site and they said that they will accept 2 (at least 1 from faculty, second must be from employer or grad school if you've already graduated and are working or are in grad school). They don't mention anything about additional letters...

Feeling left out...and worried here 😛 No email or secondary yet!

I'm sure they're just slowly working through the huge influx of apps they received. Don't worry, you'll get it soon!

@Pathdocmd for the prompt
"The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) lists 15 entry-level core competencies for medical school applicants: Service Orientation, Social Skills, Cultural Competence, Teamwork, Oral Communication, Ethical Responsibility to Self and Others, Reliability and Dependability, Resilience and Adaptability, Capacity for Improvement, Critical Thinking, Quantitative Reasoning, Scientific Inquiry, Written Communication, Living Systems, and Human Behavior. (See AAMC webpage for full definitions using hyperlink below).

Please pick ONE of the competencies and describe how your background and experiences highlights the competency and prepares you for medical school. Do not duplicate information provided elsewhere in the secondary application or in your AMCAS personal statement (400 words or less)."

my question might sound dumb, but does that mean we can't talk about the experiences that we discussed in our secondary/ps?
or just that we can't copy/paste?

and for the question
"Describe any connection you have to Wake Forest School of Medicine, Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, or North Carolina (200 words or less)."
even if we have no connections, can we still discuss why we want to attend Wake Forest?

Received and submitted the secondary!

For those who have already received a secondary, on which date was your primary verified? I'm trying to figure out how much longer I can hold off pre-writing those massive prompts.

Received the secondary! Really grateful now that I pre-wrote this one.

I was verified June 5th.

June 22nd!

Can we treat the challenges/obstacles question as a typical challenge question or is it more general life challenges? like i have a challenging situation that I have used for other school prompts but not an overall life obstacle

+1

Do you think pick at least two really means answer all three or you're donating us your application fee?

I'm assuming for the required essays...we pick 2 of 3? Unless we really wanted to do all 3?

"Required Essay Questions (Pick at least two)"

This means you must answer two, and may answer a third if you choose. If you do not have anything meaningful to write about for a third prompt, then you don't need to do it.

If you've already talked about a topic in a different part of your application, you should not use these spaces to speak more about it. If you want to talk about it in a new way or highlight some aspect of it that isn't seen elsewhere in the application, that is fine, but you should try to use all of the space available to you to talk about new reasons that Wake would want to accept you.

I wrote two. My diversity essay covers one of the competencies as well, so I figured I was good.

Is there anyone else having trouble logging in today? I completed most of my secondary yesterday and was trying to log in to submit it, but when I typed in my User ID and password (the application number) it says Invalid Login.

EDIT: I'm able to log into the application status portal where they also have us type in our last name, but for the secondary, it's not working :/

EDIT 2: Never mind, they had a wrong link in the email and it appears they fixed it.

So is the consensus that we should only send 2 LOR since that's what they sad they'd accept? I'm thinking I should just play it safe on this one...

So has anyone with a May 2015 MCAT received a secondary without calling?

i sent more than that. i think it's fine

I'm confused about the letters, as well. I assumed MSAR was accurate and has already assigned letters to Wake Forest when my primary application was transmitted. I don't think there's a way to remove letters through AMCAS, so if we did this, would the 2 letters we list in the secondary be read and the others ignored? I'm less worried about them being ignored and more worried that it'll seem like I can't follow directions :-/

I kind of mention resilience and adaptability in my diversity for a single paragraph and my challenge essay is pretty much entirely about changing my methods to adapt to a difficult situation, think that would be enough?

Personally, I think it is.

How many letters is everyone submitting? More than 2?

is anyone getting an error message when trying to pay with credit card

I know this has been talked about on this thread over the past couple months but haven't seen a definitive answer. Has anyone called WF about the LOR number? I want to send 4 but they seem to have fairly poor wording on their website that doesn't say they won't accept more than 2. If no one has called, I will call tomorrow and let you know what they say.

is anyone else having trouble accessing the secondary?
The link is kind of wonky if you're visiting it for a second+ time because of browsing history/cookies or whatever (it's stated on the login page) so I'm planning to fill it out on Chrome incognito since I was able to access it just fine with that.

I wrote one challenge/obstacle but it was only 263 words so I'm not sure if that is too short and I should add another story... I could write about training for a half marathon but idk if that counts as an obstacle/challenge. Not to mention that my other obstacle is about dealing with a disease so the two would clash horribly :/
Any suggestions?

263 words sounds fine to me. But if you're really worried maybe you can add the new paragraph with some kind of clever transition? Like idk the specifics of your disease essay, but possibly something like "circumstantial obstacles are not the only ones i've conquered; i also seek challenges" or somth.

I think they'd rather read a short succinct essay than a long rambling one.
