@Pathdocmd , any chance of some waitlist movement before April 30th?

Actually the deadline this year is May 2nd, since the 30th is a Saturday. And normally they need time to figure out how many spots have opened up and convene an admissions committee meeting. So I would assume we actually won't hear about much movement until at least a few days after May 2nd.

I met with two different admissions directors over the last two weeks when I was revisiting schools and they said this is not true. It still stands that we have until April 30 at 11:59 pm (deadline is still before May 1st) because the AAMC goes by a consistent date, regardless of day of week it falls on, and those adcoms said they will be working through it.

Wait really? Well then I'm glad I'm wrong because the sooner the ball gets rolling the better!

This is from the AAMC:

Dear Colleagues,

As we approach the deadline for releasing multiple acceptances, please note that this year, April 30th falls on a Saturday. Therefore, the protocol goes into effect on the following business day. Consequently, students may be permitted to hold multiple acceptances until Monday, May 2nd. Please see Applicant and Acceptance Protocol #6 for reference. If you need more information on the Application and Acceptance Protocols, you may find them here (https://www.aamc.org/admissions/admissionslifecycle/409120/trafficrules.html)

6. After April 30, implement school-specific procedures for accepted applicants who, without adequate explanation, continue to hold one or more places at other schools or programs. *If any date falls on a weekend/holiday the recommendation(s) will apply to the following business day.

a. Each school or program should permit applicants:

1. A minimum of five business days to respond to an acceptance offer. This may be reduced to a minimum of two business days within 30 days of the start of orientation.

2. Submit a statement of intent, a deposit, or both.

b. Recognize the challenges of applicants with multiple acceptance offers, applicants who have not yet received an acceptance offer, and applicants who have not yet been informed about financial aid opportunities at schools to which they have been accepted.

c. Permit applicants who have been accepted or who have been granted a deferral, to remain on other schools' or programs' wait lists. Also, permit these applicants to withdraw if they later receive an acceptance offer from a preferred school or program.

An e-mail will be going out today saying the deadline is May 2.

Hi all, still deciding between schools. Can any students with experience comment on research as a student at Wake? I'm heavily research inclined and I wanted to know if students have been successful in staying involved with research longitudinally (even as an extracurricular activity). Is the only chance for research during summer, or have students been able to be involved during years 1 and 2, if they make the time?

Not a student but know a lot about the school/area. The new med school facility is located in Innovation Quarter and is literally steps from the Biotech Place building. Do some googling for more info. The whole block is crawling with research and I'm sure you would have many options to get and stay involved

Does anyone have any insight on when people will hear about the wait list? When I e-mailed the office she said they had no idea. I remember at the interview they said the first movement could be in June. Last year it was May 21 that the first people (on SDN) heard about the wait list. Just wondering if anyone had heard anything different?

I remember them saying that too. I'm hoping they would get to the waitlist earlier than that, but who knows.

I know a kid whose interviewer called shortly after he got the WL and told him she had never seen somebody at his position on the list not get accepted... And he has not heard back yet. So I doubt any movement has occurred yet, but this is obviously just n=1 speculation

Did he know the interviewer personally? I haven't heard of anyone being contacted like that.

He did not, just through interview day. Seems pretty outlandish to me as well, but it happened. He even told me the interviewer's name, but that's not something I'm comfortable posting. He is a current wake student, which may explain things

Maybe @Pathdocmd can shed some light. Any news on when the waitlist will move? Also, can waitlistee's find out their general position on the waitlist?

Would love some news too, I just got off the apartment waitlist at my one acceptance and need to sign a lease within a week or so otherwise I'm SOL. Delaying as much as I can and praying for wake to call...

Seriously! I found potential roommates at my official acceptance school and they want to sign... But I'd rather go here so... AHHH I hope we hear soon.

Feel you 100%. And what makes it worse is all my other waitlist schools that I have less desire to go to are moving but at wake where I'd go in a heartbeat it's just like crickets chirping

Will the Thursday waitlist movement be the bulk of it? Or will more people be accepted after that?
It will probably be the largest movement. We may or may not have more meetings. It depends on how many people decline an acceptance or go somewhere else in the weeks to come. If you don't hear anything by the end of Thursday you are still on the wait list.

A word to those of us hoping to hear from Wake today: Remember, a watched pot never boils. So let's try and not go completely crazy staring at our phones today. Good luck everyone!

Edit: Or emails. I have no idea which method they contact you by.

Luckily I'm swamped at work today so I haven't checked my personal email once....

...until just now

Emails have gone out, just got off the waitlist! What a great opportunity! Good luck to everyone else waiting to hear!

Has your status on the portal changed as well?

EDIT: Congratulations, btw!

So do we think the emails went out all at once and if we haven't gotten one we won't for the day or that they're going out individually?

The attachment was addressed to me personally which suggests that they are going out individually. I honestly have no idea, but hang in there and hopefully you will hear some food news ASAP! Best of luck - Wake Forest is a wonderful school!

That's funny because that's the first thing I thought when I noticed I didn't have an email. "Oh, maybe they're just sending them out individually and my name is on down the list." But honestly, that would be an incredibly slow (but nice) way to do things as opposed to just sending out a mass email to all newly accepted applicants.

On a related note, I reckon it's time to get started reworking that personal statement :bang:.

Has anyone's portal status changed? Literally just dying in anticipation!

Also just got off the waitlist at around 3:30 today. Now trying to choose between Wake and another great school.

Anyone know if financial aid info will be sent sometime soon (i.e. before the 1 week deadline they gave us to reply to the offer)?

Talked to financial aid today and they said they would likely start working on our packages next week - so I am not sure whether we will hear within 1 week. But they made it seem as if everybody gets essentially the same, standard loan package (for federal aid - not sure about the need access form stuff).

I guess all of the waitlist acceptances have been sent out at this point? Still clinging to a thread of hope!

What's in the works moving forward fellow waitlisters?

Would the Admissions Office disclose the current waitlist numbers? I think a lot of people are curious about: how many people were accepted from waitlist this Thursday? How many applicants remains in the waitlist? And would they give out the waitlist ranking if the applicant calls the admissions?

I think it would give many that's still hanging onto Wake's waitlist a realistic sense of their chances.

i really can't understand this myself either. i don't see how it would compromise the integrity of the process at all , and it would tremendously help a lot of people in weighing their options/decisions going forward. we have paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars to apply ( primary and secondary), travel and accommodation for interviews etc, and yet they can't afford us this one small "luxury?" smacks of cruel and unusual punishment IMO

To those who went to second look, did you guys get a tour/more information about the new facilities? Also, anyone know if Wake is ranked pass/fail, unranked pass/fail or graded during preclinical years?

To those who have found places near the new school location, how much is your rent on average with utilities?

Also, to current students, do you need a car for the first two years?

Unranked pass/fail. Haven't leased yet but it looks like for one person, more east closer to the med center is 650-ish, downtown is 750-1000ish, much cheaper if you have roommates.

Double post... Does anybody have any idea if/when more movement will happen?
