2015-2016 West Virginia University Application Thread

Was anyone else more impressed by this school than they thought they would be? My interviewer said i was their favorite of the day (i was last). Does this hold merit?
That's definitely a good sign! They'll most likely "lobby" hard for you at the next adcom meeting since they felt so strongly about you. I'm glad you liked the school so much. It really is a great school! Good luck!!

Rejected pre-secondary very swiftly.. Not super surprised and not disappointed.. glad they didn't drag it out.

Added on 11/1 and rejected on 11/11.. Happy Veteran's Day y'all!

Interviewed here on November 2nd. Rejected today. OOS but neighboring and attend school IS. Oh, well. 514 MCAT and 3.91 GPA.

I'm sorry 🙁 How did you feel after the interview?

I didn't think it went great, but not terrible either. I thought I would get waitlisted at least. This may sound bitter, but I honestly think that their one-20 minute interview isn't a very good method of assessment.

It's only 20 minutes long?

Well it's supposed to be a 30-min interview with 2 people at the same time. But apparently it ends much quicker than I expected. I'm glad it wasn't just I that got 20 min interview

even 30 minutes still isn't a lot of time. Guess I have to make the most of it!

At what time is the am session vs the pm session? I am scheduled to interview Friday in the pm session but I tried figuring out at what time and it doesn't say it in the confirmation email 🙁

All interviews are in the afternoon from 1-4pm I believe. So the latest interview much be 3:30pm

It's not very different from what I remember. I had an afternoon interview session and we had to be there at 10 am. Then i'm thinking the interviews started at like 2:30 maybe. somewhere around there. Not exactly sure the time table for the morning sessions. My guess would be that they flip the order of things, and do interviews early then tours after, but that's a guess

Mine was a pm session too.
10:15 check in --> 6 min video intro --> hang around
11:00 -- 12:00 med students come and talk + lunch
12:00 -- 1:00 tour
1:00 -- 3 30 interview-- 1/2 hour [supposedly] spent with 2 faculties (or 1 faculty + 1 MS4) -- random order -- those with later interview hang around and talk

Is anyone else an in-state applicant that isn't interviewing until after the new year? I heard through the grapevine that they wanted to move IS interviews up into the spaces where OOS applicants cancel after getting acceptances from other schools. Is this just wishful thinking? The waiting is absolutely eating me up!

I heard this myself from the admissions office, but my guess is there's just not a lot of people giving up those interview spots. I wouldn't stress about a late interview too much. I knew a few IS people in my class who interviewed after the new year and it didn't seem to put them at any disadvantage or anything.

Edit: I know you 😛

Got my oos waitlist. Shockerrr. Would love to go here though.

Yeah! I was really hoping I'd get lucky. I loved this school more than I was expecting.

Well I'm sure since there is a ton of wait list movement in May, you will be getting some good news 🙂

I wish it didn't take that long though!

Psst, I know you too haha.

I can't help but get nervous for it being so late. I like to have things wrapped up with few unknowns hanging over me. This process is torturously long and drawn out!

Waitlisted OOS. I had a good interview too.

I have an interview on 01/18, just booked the Hampton Inn across the street from the Mountaineer Station. It's a double bed room. If anyone wants to split the room with me (male), send a pm.

Anyone else interviewing this week? I am interviewing 12/3 and very excited!

Trying to prepare for the interview but everyone says it is so laid back so I find myself procrastinating... haha

Review your application essays enough to be able to answer questions about them. Other than that, just be yourself.

Wait list letter received in mail today, dated Nov 25, interviewed 11/19, OOS. Anyone have any promising stats on OOS acceptances from wait list? Early Christmas presents are always appreciated...

Both! The interview was very straightforward, with no tricks or added stress. Most of it was a lot like a friendly conversation about my undergrad experience.

"Why West Virginia" was a recurring theme. Think critically about that, and speak truthfully.

Well I hope I have a similar interviewing experience as you did 🙂

I've done a lot of research on WVU, and everytime I do I think I fall a little more in love with the school!

I am trying to write a thank you note to my interviews with an update before the committee meeting on Tuesday but I want to make sure I have the spellings correct. They didn't give us the interviewers bio like they normally do so this is just a shot in the dark..

Did anyone else interview with
Dr. Hardy?
Dr. Padenastro (probably butchered that spelling)

I can't seem to find them on the website at all!

Thanks in advance

I called them to confirm the spelling. I didn't have those two faculty, however.

It's Paternostro. You probably were interviewed by Dr Steven Hardy, but I'm not positive. Hope you enjoyed your visit!

If he is the PBL coordinator then yes! And thank you for both!

Yes, it was all very laid back and felt like everyone really wanted to get to know me. Had a great time with my host and was able to sit in on a class and explore the town with her friends! Hoping for good news come Tuesday!
