2016-2017 Brown University (Alpert) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Apologies for the hijack...but does Alpert give a bias/preference for non-PLME Brown undergrad applicants over other applicants from different private schools? I am only asking because I noticed that the post-II acceptance rate for this school is insanely high, mores than most other tops.

Thanks guys
this is what i've heard. i dont have a source though.

No.
None-PLME Brown grads have historically made up a similar proportion of the class as other ivy(+) grads. Last year there were a couple more than usual and the year before that there were a couple fewer. All comes out in the wash.

Where did you guys find the post-II acceptance rate? Is it based on rumors? I looked on MSAR but unfortunately it only has number of IIs and matriculants. 🙁

US News Compass (have to purchase it for $30 or it is somewhere online).

Brown's post interview acceptance rate is ~75% according to the compass (it shows number accepted compared to number interviewed)

Is that 75% overall, or specific to the regular AMCAS application stream?

Not quite sure what you're asking, but the statistic is: Brown sends an acceptance letter to 75% of the people that come in for an II.

So the PLME people are not included in the calculation that yields 75% right?

I'm guessing for anyone who applied july-early august we have no hope for an II?

Do you know if US News lists acceptances based on IS and OOS like MSAR does for matriculants?

is a 508, 3.8 masters GPA (medical science) application going to end up being a waste of money?

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

You have really good numbers though. LizzyM 72 = 3.6 and a 36, or more realistically 3.8 and a 34. A 34 is 94th percentile and nothing to sneeze at.
The latter is more like it.

I agree, I do have good numbers. But, if going off advice people give on SDN, I should have couple II from mid-tier schools, not the abundance of II I have currently + a handful in the top 25. Plenty of people with my stats with ****ty ECs and essays don't get in or get into 1 school and many with better stats don't do nearly as well as I'm doing.

Agree with this sentiment. Before I applied, people told me not to bother with the top 10 or top 20 and instead focus on mid-tier schools since my MCAT is not that impressive in comparison to other folks on SDN. Of the seven IIs I have, close to half are from top 10 schools, 2 from top 20, 1 from Brown, and 1 from a "safer" school. Stats are important, but they are really just one aspect of your overall application.
I really want a Brown II 🙁

Is their mcat range really between 26 to 39? That's what i found on their class profile online
If so then I guess it's worth a shot applying with my balanced 28 mcat

So I'm in a bit of a pickle! I just got my MCAT score back yesterday and I did better than I hoped for! I absolutely love brown and I actually fall within their average range of MCAT scores/GPAs now! I already applied to 24 schools and sent in the secondaries as soon as I received them. But do you guys think it's waaaay too late to add brown to my list and apply to this school now? I know it's late but if there's any chance I could get an interview, it's worth it! Thanks in advance!!

Go for it if it is your dream school

Not too late. I applied in October.

I interviewed here and the Dean said they accept 44% of the AMCAS stream applicants fyi
Confused about the 44% Amcas stream applicants.
Are you talking about brown having MCAT and gpa cut offs though they say they do a holistic review?

Probably referring to those who applied through amcas vs bs/md program?

Yeah the standard AMCAS application applicant as opposed to PLME or the other streams of applicants they have like post-bacs accepted straight from those programs into the med school etc

Thanks for the clarification!

i know it's really late in the application season, but i didn't apply to brown bc my college advisor told me not to and now i'm immensely regretting that decision. do you think it's too late / even worth it considering i'm also a traditional student and they seem to favor non-trads?

You'll regret it if you don't

that's true...but idk, i just dont know if spending the $ will be worth it, this late into the season. ughhhh. i probably will tho. just to appease my dreams haha.
I have classmates here that sent in their apps this time last year, fwiw. If you like Brown, please apply!

Is it automatic added school last week and nothing! Thanks to help!
It took me about 2 weeks to get my secondary invite. Similar for other members. If you haven't heard anything by 2.5-3 weeks start to worry. But you should be getting it soon.

For your premed requirements did you just lair the minimal classes you took to reach requirements or did you list all classes that fulfill the requirement? Thank you!

Any recent II? Last one on this thread seemed to be sent out in late Aug

Hi, does anyone know if they're receptive to in the area type emails? Also, are there any recommended template/sample emails of this type on SDN/the internet?

Has anyone heard back that applied to the MD-ScM program?
