2016-2017 Indiana University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received my II on August 8 and still have not been given my date. I am an OOS and I also chose Indianapolis as my interview location (probably a pretty common one). I can imagine that there is some method to matching interviewees with their preferred location. If nothing else that could explain the long wait time.

But to be real, I have no clue

I'm in the same boat...still no interview date and got the II on 8/11...no idea how their process works at IU

I just got mine today, got the II the same day I believe, and selected Indianapolis. Yours should be coming soon!

For anyone who has interviewed already: what time does the day end? It says on the invitation that there isn't a tour and my interview is at 9:30 AM, so does this mean I'm done after that or does it go for the whole day and end around 3:30 as usual? Just trying to plan flights/hotels!

My day was from 1 pm to about 3:30/4 pm. Check-in began at 12:30 though. My interview was during that time frame. If your interview is at 9:30 am I would assume you should be done by 12ish

I had my interview at 11am (check in 9:15), but we had some people from earlier in the day join our information session, which was from 12-1. I would say for you ending at 1 is fairly safe!

Verified application on 8/29 and received secondaries from all my schools already and understand Indiana does not have one, but is it abnormal to not even get the "we received your AMCAS application" email after a little over two weeks.

no those are dates that I received all of those emails. I interview Sep. 14th with a few other SDN'ers on this thread actually. I was just giving an accurate timeline

Did you interview in the morning or afternoon?

school is huge, the people are very nice (especially compared to home state FL lol)
standard interview questions, 2-on-1 in most cases, I heard some people had 1-1. conversational, stressful just because it's an interview and in my case my first interview, but all in all went well. no questions that were out of the blue or insanely hard to answer.

EDIT: if anyone has any questions about the interview I don't mind answering, since I'm just going to be in Indy for the night not studying for my human morph exam next Tuesday lol

Do you guys think I should call the admissions office if I still haven't gotten an interview date yet? I was invited to interview over a month ago on 8/11....

Idk maybe I'm just being neurotic but it seems like they should've sent it out since its been over 4 weeks

they say allow 4-6 weeks for processing of documents and i'd assume interview date scheduling is in the same boat. I'd wait a bit longer.

I got my "we have received your amcas application" email a little over 7 weeks ago, and I have not heard anything from IUSM since. Thoughts anyone? Im OOS (Michigan) and LizzyM-74

also OOS and I have not heard anything from them. Although it has only been more than a week since they sent me an Email that they have received my application, I understand how you feel since I already get antsy waiting to hear back from them lol.

buckle up.... It has been 4 weeks from me... I think they take some time (good thing is they have a lot of interview slots)

Well the day after I wondered whether it was taking too long to get the "we got your AMCAS" email, I got it. Thats a miniature relief.

Does anyone know how long the non-early decision program notifications after the interview take, to find out if your accepted or not? 2-3 months? I think EDP applicants find out Oct 15

I'm in a similar situation. OOS, lizzym 75, got the application received over a month ago.

EDP found out September 26th of last year. If you are not EDP, they review applications every month and accept a certain number of applicants from that pile which is ranked by a GPA/MCAT algorithm. Decisions are snail mailed out the 15th of each month. So, you could interview in September and not find out until March. Any applicants left in May either get rejected or waitlisted. If you read last year's thread, you will get a lot of insight 🙂

Thanks, that helps a lot! Any info on the conversion of the mcat ranges of accepted applicants with the new score, in addition to the gpa ranges? The stats for 2016 incoming class were a 509 average mcat and a 3.74 I believe.

Did you find out through email or a letter?

You shouldn't rely on this, but in some months we received electronic confirmation of acceptance prior to snail mail.

Edit: Shouldn't rely on it meaning that it wont happen every month. I found out via electronic (it was a financial aid email and a subsequent portal acceptance) but other people only found out via snail mail as their first communication

got the primary received email early July, OOS and no ties to Indiana, still no word.

2.5 months. Jeez, either these guys are really REALLY holistic, or really behind

Not sure, I completely understand your question, but if you're referring to the algorithm, if you are within 2-3 points of their average LizzyM (calculate this with your MCAT and sGPA) or higher AND an Indiana resident, you should be fine (according to my own observations only!). I have no idea how they choose OOS students.

That is a fun question. I found out because my graduate application info on OneStart, the IUB undergrad portal, changed. Others find out a variety of ways as @OrgoCoop mentioned-- emails, IUSM portal change, snail mail. I didn't get my official letter until four days after my IUB portal changed. If you are an IU undergrad, I would check that portal frequently around the 15th of each month, it seems to change first.

has anyone heard back for an II since getting the app receipt notification in early sept?

Guess I'll have to keep an eye on all of those then, thanks!

What is your status supposed to be after everything is sent in and you have been interviewed? I know they said it but I can't remember. Just want to make sure I have filled out all necessary paperwork.

I filled out all the necessary paperwork and sent it in after receiving an email saying I got an interview (mailed everything about 3 weeks ago). However, my applicant portal still says that these materials haven't been received. Is that normal? I know things have been moving slow, but just want to make sure I don't need to resend these things. I also sent my committee letter of evaluation to IU via AMCAS, however my portal says that has not been received either.

If it's of any help, my status changed to "Under Consideration". It also says below that the status wouldn't change until a final decision would be made.

Does IUSM have a student housing option for interviewees--a program that allows interviewees to stay with current students? If so has anybody done this?

OOS, 70-75, rejected, submitted mid july

Rejected! OOS, but I tried telling them I have close ties to Indiana because I'm Indian but still rejected me
This is preposterous
Stats and complete date?

Also how did you tell that to Indiana if they don't even have a secondary lol

Frequent calls to the admin office demanding an acceptance prior to interview on this basis. Works 60% of the time, every time 😉

(family lived here for 21 years before moving just last year, went to HS and UG here, currently working during my gap year here in IN)

Why aren't you considered IS again?
