2016-2017 Northwestern University (Feinberg) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haha don't worry about it, received snail mail in the morning and the email at night. The snail mail comes in a tiny envelope

haha they must be really good at timing when the letter will be received at home and when to send you the email!

Why can't schools realize we all just want a quick text saying "yo ur in" thirty seconds after its decided in the adcom meeting?

Yeah, never thought I'd be so attentive to my snail mail

Still no snail mail... I live in FL though...

It's interesting how this is not consistent across the board. I got a portal update then an e-mail, then snail mail. Some people are getting a letter but no update or e-mail, etc. This is pretty anxiety provoking but I hope you hear back soon!

Was just explaining this to my family, and they felt the same way. It's looking like I won't get the snail mail first, since I believe someone on my interview day has already heard back. Going to keep checking the portal throughout the week!

guess we ain't hearing back before the Holidays :,(
Haven't a lot of people been finding out on Mondays via portal/email, with snail mail having been sent out on the Friday a couple days before? The online decision release could be automated so I wouldn't give up total hope for news on the 26th

I still have hope for myself since someone my week heard back... as for you, we'll see!

I never paid attention to the week day. If that's the case I should prob stop refreshing my portal all week

I envy your willpower if you can stop. I refreshed my MCAT portal daily starting a full week before release and med schools daily the week after interview, lol

Oh, it'll still be a daily thing haha. Since tata94 got snail mail Monday and I was her week, I'm hoping my mail is on the way still, as I'm in FL.

Any advice for interview day from those who have already interviewed? I'm scheduled to interview early next month. Just bought a big coat and gloves. California resident xD

Most of the interviews I heard of were relaxed, including one of mine. The other of mine was very behavioral-based, but I think it's because of who interviewed me and not necessarily the program.

I'd just go in and enjoy!

+1 on the behavior interview questions... if we are talking about the same person, I wish I could redo my interview with someone else 🙁

It definitely caught me off guard. What's done is done! By the way, no snail mail notification today either 🙁

What do you guys mean by behavior interview questions?

I imagine they mean "stress interviews."

Am I right folks? I had one of these (not at Feinberg) and I wasn't expecting it at all. It really messed me up.

My terminology may be wrong, but here are some examples.

Tell me about this class. (It was one from a very long time ago.)
Pretend I'm young. Explain your research.

I called it behavioral b/c throughout both scenarios interviewer was clearly trying to test my communication skills.
"I'm not quite getting it."
"Can you explain one more time?"
"I'm still not quite getting it."
By the time we moved forward, it had seemed as though the interviewer still couldn't understand, testing my patience.

This act was consistent throughout the interview (edit), so my belief is that it was a test of my communication and patience.

See above comment. But, certainly it was stressful at first, until I caught on and realized it was just a test of my patience and communication (I think...).

I was not bashed in any way, so I wouldn't call it stress-inducing. However, I was pushed.

From one of my interviewers, I just received questions that had nothing to do with my app or medicine whatsoever. So I am assuming he wanted to see how I answer questions and my line of reasoning (similar to an MMI). It just caught me off-guard because I went in thinking it was going to be traditional interview with questions like Why Northwestern? Why Medicine? etc etc

Ohhh k I see. I actually had a mild but similar experience. First interviewer was extremely conversational about stuff on my AMCAS. Second one kept pushing difficult questions and seeming to disagree with whatever I said (topic was applicability of social healthcare to the US) and then later was asking tough questions about personal flaws and times I struggled and how I felt during them. Maybe they try to intentionally give you one tougher interview, I had assumed I just got an intense interviewer.

My topic was gun violence

Good cop bad cop.

I honestly thought mine was some kind of joke. The guy would almost always follow up with, "ok and what if that didn't work?"

Obviously, that one didn't work out for me, haha.

besides tough interview questions, have you guys been accepted yet?

decision also delayed until March :/ sucks, this is my #1 choice. i'm wondering what we can do at this pt

Iirc a large portion (half?) of admits go out in March, deferred here isn't as bad of news as some other places. Only thing I think you could do is send any substantial updates that occur in the next couple months

Has anyone from the interview week of Dec 12-16th heard back yet? I'm super nervous we are going to have to wait an extra two weeks because of the holiday!

so half the class gets deferred until March? is there a particular reason why the other half is told earlier?

Question for the MD/PhD applicants in this thread... did everyone hear back accepted, deferred, rejected 2 weeks after interviewing, or do you only hear back if you are accepted? Interviewed on 12/7 and no word since then. Thanks!

Hi @tictactoh, glad to see another MSTP applicant here. I interviewed in October and still not a whisper from the program.

Anyone know when second look is scheduled, and what we can expect from it? Also, around when do facebook class groups get set up? Thanks guys! 🙂

Second look is 4/21 and 4/22. Not sure what the agenda is yet. I don't think a Facebook page is up yet for Feinberg but other schools already have FB pages up.
