Ok, so I have a question that's been on my mind this whole summer. Why do certain applicants hear back from medical schools before others? And specifically, I mean those who completed their applications on the same week.

It's been said before, but the process isn't necessarily first-come, first-serve. High achievers, URM, disadvantaged students, IS students (more so for public schools), those who closely fit the mission of the school and others might all get looked at earlier than other students.

Sometimes it just has to do with the application process of getting all the reviewers to get through your application (remember, some are actual Beaumont physicians that have busy practices as well!).

Is this seen as a good or bad sign? Some people have said that silence is good here but I'm a little wary.

They're very up front and transparent, if they don't want you you will know, silence is much better here than most other places.

If it makes you feel any better, last year, I submitted my secondaries around late July / early August and didn't interview till beginning of February (I think I was notified for an interview in Nov/Dec)

My personal fear is that they will be silent for months and THEN reject me haha. Not sure if that is common with this school. Also was complete early August so fingers crossed!

They send out rejections pretty promptly so no news may actually mean you are still in the running and not set aside.

Phew this gives me hope, complete back in July but my MCAT re-take score just got submitted last week. Hoping for good news here!!

Application was rejected by Oakland this morning (9/15/2016). Secondary was completed on 8/13. In-state non-traditional student, stats are in my signature.

I can't say I'm not disappointed, but it doesn't change my overall outlook for 2017. Here's hoping for positive news on the remaining five!
