2016-2017 Oakland University (Beaumont) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Received an II on Sunday night! I was really excited about this school, but recently got accepted to my state school and not sure if I should attend this interview
Simple, if you wouldn't attend this school over your state school, then save your money and turn down the interview so it can go to someone who may want to go to this school and make a great doctor some day 🙂. If I was in your situation, that's what I would do, and I would just take it easy until school started. But if you have the money and think this school may definitely sway you away from attending your state school or that you would be happier at this institution, then by all means, go for it! Hope that helps!

Thanks for your feedback! I think I am going to withdraw my interview soon... I hope it goes to one of you beautiful people =D

dang I've got such a big crush on this school and I've been on the hook since August! Doesn't help that I've got no IIs whatsoever. Silence is killing me!

Over the summer I received a good LOR from a professor I know well. Should I submit this as an application update? It would bring my LOR count up to 6, I'm not sure if that's overkill or not.

Edit: I forgot that their maximum letter count is 5.

If it makes a difference, OUWB tends to be pretty generous with financial aid, even for lower stat students if they fit the mission well. Not sure if that will sway your decision at all given that I'm sure your state school is pretty affordable.

Thank you!!! I have a lot to think about in the next couple of days before I buy a flight.

Exactly how generous?

Rejected Pre-II. Complete early August. GL everyone else :/

Still have yet to receive a II. Idk what's wrong with my application 🙁

Don't give up hope! You still have 3-4 months to hear back 🙂 I had two friends last year who didn't receive an interview until March and are 1st years now!

Thanks for your reply. It really does mean a lot 🙂

I think I may just be really bad at writing secondaries. My stats are pretty okay I think (IS/3.95/511).

I may be reading into this too deeply, but could someone clarify my understanding of the review process? The adcom meets every two weeks (dates posted on the twitter) to discuss interviews and applicants. Pre-II applicants that are not rejected are revisited at each meeting?

Tbh there's no reason why I really need this information. I've been rejection and II free for a long time, and complete very early. Just want to brace myself every two weeks for some news, good or bad!

+1 !! I know no news is good news, but EEK man!

ADCOM is meeting today. Here is hoping for good news. Good luck to everyone who is waiting. I think that we all understand that this whole process is an emotional roller coaster with one heck of an investment of time. We're all in the same boat with similar challenges folks. So, again, best of luck to everyone!

Hey guys, I was wondering how heavy the screening process is at this school to receive a secondary? I have the stats to get a secondary, which I received automatically I'm assuming. Wondering if I should withdraw or not because my mcat is low... or risk it and apply now? Can't tell if they're begging me to complete the secondary for money or not haha.

Most schools want the money.
But honestly, if you can spare the expense, it certainly does not count AGAINST you to complete the secondary now. I'm sure someone will at least see it once.

Again, consider your time and money. If you have some to spare, I'd say go for it.

Thanks for your input! I'm just wondering if they will consider more than my stats once the secondary is complete. Cause if the school doesn't really screen prior, then I figure I'll get rejected immediately after submitting. Does this logic hold true?

I got the impression that they do holistic reviews, so I don't think you'd get automatically rejected... but I'm not an expert on the school.

I have spoken to people who have applied and have gotten II with relatively low MCATs, below their listed average. (I mean, it's an "average" for a reason, right?-- that's what I tell myself lol.)

Interivewed 11/4, and still total silence. Hope they are still considering me! I really love this school, hope they'll love me back >_<

Received II this past Sunday!
OOS (born in Michigan), LizzyM 70.3, Secondary complete 10/29
Congrats! The fact that you were compete that late and got an II gives me so much hope. I was complete 10/13 and haven't heard a peep!
Best of luck with your interview 🙂

Don't ever get up hope! I submitted everything September/October and I've been blessed to receive 4 IIs and one acceptance so far. There will be some schools who will give you a chance and that's when you'll be able to show them why they'd be silly to not accept you.

Congrats! This is encouraging. Secondary submitted 11/19, delayed decision to follow through with secondary because of low MCAT - love the mission, hoping for the best!!

I'm so nervous. I love this school so much, and hope i get an acceptance call soon

Congratulations! When did you find out? and do you mind sharing your stats?
Sorry I should have been more specific! I found out last 11/27 (my life has been crazy with other school interviews so I haven't posted until now). My LizzyM score is 68. I have a lot of clinical experience, first female in my family to go to college, and have extensive work with the underprivileged/underserved. URM, OOS applicant.

Rejected pre-II just now. IS + complete 9/1

Good luck, everyone!
