2016-2017 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Crickets.

I thought for sure this forum would have folks excited about an acceptance call today. My status shows A Final Decision has been made, so I wonder if that decision is Wait List. Did anyone get put on the wait list in October when their status said "A Final Decision..."?
I've got the final decision status. Nothing yet

Surprised this hasn't had more people posting acceptances. Maybe not a ton sdn'ers who got the call

I was told during my interview day that a decision would be made today regarding my app but my status still says "Your applications and interview report will be reviewed a final time by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine" like it always has. Did they just forget to update the status or has my app not been reviewed for whatever reason?

LizzyM 70.5. Nontraditional.
They score based on when the computer gives them your app so I´m betting they havent been looking at yours for months. I have also been under review since mid july and LM is near yours.

Same here!

Anyone not get the call yesterday and not have a waitlist email yet?

Got the wait list email today. Interviewed Sept 23. LizzieM 71.7. Does anyone know what the stats are on getting in and when they start accepting people from wait list?

stats arent too far off from yours, you will probably get it at a later time! waitlist is not a bad thing! Im still hoping for an II 🙁

I got waitlisted. Interviewed in October.

On Interview Day we were told that if you do not get an acceptance on Nov 2, it means you did not make the first batch of 20 acceptances but might make the next batch. If we were put on the waitlist, are we still included in this batch or are we on a separate list that won't be considered until a later time?

its not a separate list. it is the same exact list that all the new interviewees get placed. They told us this in interviews. it is only ONE list. so there is a lot of hope!

Does anyone care to share their response to the "most meaningful patient contact experiences" section of the U Miami secondary? I could really use the help for next year's cycle if I don't get in this year to any schools.

I got my "decision has been reached" status last Monday at 8am and still haven't heard anything from admissions regarding my decision... Is anyone else in the same boat? Interviewed Sept 30th.

So when they score you, do they tell you that you've been scored on the portal? Has anyone been rejected here pre II?

App status turned green and reads "application is currently being reviewed" as opposed to "is under review"
complete 09/01

That's what mine says as well. Is this different from being scored? I've heard mixed things on here with some individuals stating the system is not always accurate and others stating it is different.

I think it means you are likely to be scored soon, after they have finished reviewing your app

Finally hit the "Currently Under Review update" after months of waiting.

:naughty::naughty::naughty:

Anyone know when we'd hear about any potential scholarships? Are they released with admissions or do they occur later in the cycle?

Does everyone who gets reviewed get scored? And how long after the review does it take to get scored?

My app just updated with this status: "Your Application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Applicants will be invited to interview based upon their point total from the Committee review. Applications that have been reviewed and scored by the Committee will be considered for interviews during the entire interview cycle (September - April)."

I think both will happen. I got my (merit) scholarship when I was accepted, but there is a diversity scholarship that you need to apply for. I know of someone who applied for it and ended up being awarded a merit scholarship, so it's kind of all over the place.

Has anyone else had this status for... let's guesstimate... 3 or 4 months?

'Your Application is currently under review by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.'
Since July :/

I assume there is no difference between that status and the one that goes "Your Application to the UM Miller School of Medicine is complete and is currently being reviewed by the Admissions Committee"?

To any current students, what is the student faculty relationship like. Are the professors open and warm towards students or do you feel like they are just there to lecture and then leave? Also some other schools pair students with a physician mentor, does UM have something like this beyond the physician preceptorship program which to my understanding is just a physician you work with a few times? And how do you guys feel about the pass/fail plus system. I don't fully understand how that works.

+1! But if you look at last year's thread, some people don't receive the scored status even in the end of March... However I certainly don't buy the "the process is random, we score whatever application the computer spits out." They have their own internal filters and your application goes through multiple screenings before it actually gets the scored status, so not receiving the scored status does not mean your application has not been looked at. Logically speaking, I doubt they would leave things up to a randomized computer program if there are superstars with 72+ LizzyM. Those applicants will always get first dibs regardless of their completion date.

Not receiving the scored status probably means your app has been halted at a filter and will be re-reviewed, but the way it's done certainly over simplifies the process and gives the applicants a false sense of hope. I would much rather have them state "Application complete and you will possibly be contacted for an interview anytime between September - March." So just have a balanced mindset that not receiving the scored status on the portal can be a silent rejection rather than a "My app will be scored any minute now and they'll shoot me an II soon."
