2016-2017 University of Minnesota Application Thread

Anyone hear anything back from Duluth yet? Complete based off fee payment email on 7/22 - Twin Cities, 7/25 - Duluth and still nothing for me.

Nothing from Duluth for me.

I completed u of m TC on 7/12 and got II on 8/8. I completed my Duluth secondary on 6/29 and still haven't heard anything.

I was looking at last year's application thread because I think that's a healthy choice.

It seems like once you get into the middle of the season it became an ~8+ week wait from secondary completion to interview invite (II). And some were waiting 2-4 weeks to schedule the interview after receiving II. Then out to ~8-10 weeks to hear back on acceptance. Many even had 8 weeks from primary submission to secondary invite.

It's been almost a month since I made my campus selection and I still haven't received the secondary. I know the email said the process takes several weeks, but it doesn't seem like this problem is particularly widespread.

II just now sent to my spam folder. AMCAS verified email 07/17, secondary invite 07/19, secondary complete 07/22.

Edit: Earliest interview dates were for October 6th, and 14th. Two other dates later in October.

Nice! TC or Duluth?

I had a similar problem. I made my campus selection in early July and hadn't received a secondary from Duluth by the end of last week. So, this Monday I called the admissions director, who was very helpful and forwarded me a copy of the secondary invite email that had been routed to my Gmail spam folder on July 29th (the day my AMCAS was verified).

So, I'd check your spam folder and, if you don't find anything there, contact admissions.

Edit: Assuming your AMCAS has been verified. No secondaries until then.

What email service routed their email to your spam folder? Do you mind sharing the email address the II was sent from so the rest of us might avoid compulsively checking our spam folders?

Gmail. I got the secondary and all other communication with no issues; just II sent to spam. The email to add to your contact list is [email protected]

how are you guys preparing for the interview? i know minnesota gives you prompt examples but i feel like they can ask you such a wide range of scenarios

So I just got an email from this school asking me to apply to their school. Is that something special or does everyone get that.

I got it as well. Apparently being Asian American means you are a minority and that you contribute to diversity.
Well I'm a white guy. Not very diverse. Maybe because I am married and have kids.

If I submitted my Secondary mid-August (~8/14), when should I expect to hear back about whether I did/did not receive an II?

Sometime between today and February.

I believe the options when they first review your application are:
1) interview invite
2) immediate rejection
3) let's wait and see

So, it may be a nice suspenseful wait if you end up in pile #3.

II received on 8/22, happened to check spam folder today and found it... woops. As with others, all other contact was fine and not pushed to spam. Using Gmail.

Chose a date today, they confirmed the date within a few hours.
Excited to have an interview at my top choice!

Congrats! That would have been a terrible email to miss!

When were you complete?

@Epictitus I received the secondary on 8/6 and completed it on 8/8.

Thanks! I also received the secondary on the 6th. Submitted mine on the 10th. Terrifying and exciting that I may hear back any day now!

I had been pretty relaxed about this whole process, though I foresee the obsessive email checking starting soon.

When do they send out rejections I was complete in July but nothing. I wish they would at least send a rejection so I know lol.

When is your interview date? Are you applying early decision?
She actually let me pick my interview date for when I am in town because I am currently not living in Minnesota. Nope I'm regular decision!

Just got rejected from Duluth :-/ Odd occurrence for 8:05p on a Sunday evening. IS, submitted secondary 8/23.

Sorry to hear. Best of luck at other schools. I'm assuming it was an email rejection?

I wouldn't worry about it, it took me month to get my interview details. I got my II on 8/8, scheduled interview for 9/20, and got interview details on 9/9.

Thanks. Non-trad with a young child, a first career, and a wife with a good job. Not about to uproot them to chase my crazy dream! Besides I figure if I can't get accepted in-state, I certainly wouldn't be OOS somewhere else.

While I understand your concerns about your family, it's definitely not true that if you don't get in to an IS school that you won't get in anywhere.
