2016-2017 Virginia Tech Carilion Application Thread

Yeah, pretty decent research experience. 4 years, 3 publications, 5 abstracts, and about 3 manuscripts under review (though they probably don't care about anything that isn't published).

I checked before sending my primary and they said my MCAT was valid, so I don't think it was that. I knew my undergrad GPA would probably hold me back, but I was hoping the SMP would help make up for it. I guess not at Carilion though!

I am sure you will get a II elsewhere! I am still waiting for my first one as well! Good luck!

If I had to guess, I would say it was an automatic screen for you ugpa being sub 3.3 or something.

my uGPA was sub 3.3 and I received a secondary. postgrad ~3.9, but I'm not sure if I was in the automatic screen pile or if they separately review.

I didn't realize they only accept around 42 people. As an OOS applicant, I don't feel that great about my chances now.

this is a private school, so residency status shouldn't matter.

more like ~100 acceptances for 42 seats? i doubt they have such good yield to accept only 42 for 42 seats

So I received a secondary invite on 6/29 and somehow it got lost in my email.. is it even worth it to submit now?

I did one file and wrote "Essay A:" and "Essay B:" as headings.

TFW everything that you could use as the prompt for the first essay are already your most meaningful explanations on AMCAS -_-

II today! LizzyM ~70-72. Complete 7/11, re-app but did not apply to tech last year, born in Blacksburg (VT undergrad campus) but haven't lived there since middle school so can't imagine that aided me in any way.

Submitted 7/25, "complete" status on 8/1, and got the II on 8/15! (OOS, non-trad, LizzyM ~74)

Unless something crazy happens, this is going to be my first interview for the season. :nailbiting: Anyone else in the same boat?

Hey friends, I feel awkward reviving this thread from its 2 week slumber but quick question: were we supposed to send in LORs with our primary app? or do they ask for them with the secondaries?

Just like most schools, they accept them through the AMCAS system. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but that is how I did it. I didn't see this school as different from others.

Ok you're right, but some schools dont want letters until you get a secondary. I havent gotten a secondary yet so thats why I'm asking if I should send it pre-secondary

Oh, well I just added all the schools on AMCAS to send letters to and did not have a problem. Did not know that was a thing. So I assume that you should be fine.

II today! Complete near end of July. Can't wait, really like this school!

Is it worth it for me to even submit the secondary if I got it on Aug 30th? I feel like that it is really late in the cycle

Does anyone know what we are suppose to wear at the reception the night before the interview?

Do y'all think the reception is super important? I'm only 2 hours away so I can just drive the morning of and the idea of dropping another $109 isn't real appealing..

II this afternoon! Submitted Secondary on 06/30! Never thought I would get one this late, thought I had been passed .

I have been meaning to ask this for almost a month now and kept getting busy -- for those of you at the first interview in August do you remember if they specified when in October we would hear? I was re-reading last year's thread and they didn't hear until November. Does that mean we could be looking at late October for notifications?

I saw the same thing. I haven't heard anything, but I imagine they'll tell us at the interview. I think it's defintiely a possibility though.

Any recent II's here? Been pretty quiet...

I believe it was here that I read they only do 6 interview weekends for the whole cycle. In which case I would assume there will be long gaps between bunches of IIs
