For those who have been accepted, does anyone know when we will find out about the scholarship/how much aid we will be receiving?

Also, we should probably make a Facebook group to start figuring out things such as housing, etc

I stayed at the Red Lion, it probably took me 5/10 minutes to get to campus but I drove.

I have twice stayed at the Fairfield Inn & Suites and both times were pretty good (I would say exceptional for the $109 or whatever I paid each time). Free wifi, free continental breakfast, and literally across the street from WSU Spokane so it was quite convenient to walk there. (For the "other" interview, Uber ride to Gonzaga was $6-7 and took no more than 10 minutes.) (Uber to airport was $18.75 both times.)
 
Interviewed on the first batch, no phone call. Dang itttttttttttttttt 🙁
 
The holiday inn was nice, and was about 100. Standard free breakfast, and if you ask for a free room upgrade they might give it to you (they did me). Then I got to be on the top floor looking out over the city.

They haven't said anything about that yet, I'm assuming we will get further instructions in late march/early April regarding financial aid.

Btw did you try setting up your myWSU account? I'm trying to login and am having issues so I was wondering if others were successful.

The Davenport hotels seem nice. Especially the Grand. It's modern.

I would recommend the oxford suites in spokane - very close to the campus, right on the river, CLEAN, I think about the same price as the red lion, and an amazing breakfast 10/10.

Oh and free cookies but by the time I went to grab some they only had oatmeal raisin so 9.5/10
 
I'm very excited that in addition to 60 WSU students, there will be 60(?) more medical students studying right next door in Gonzaga! Won't be feeling like I was dropped off in the middle of the ocean! I hope we can make some opportunities to get together and do stuff... like maybe make a Facebook page for all medical students in Spokane?

Here's an interesting trend I've discovered thanks to the help of those who have said they were accepted in this thread...I'll share what I've discovered and not disclose who told me what out of those who voiced that they were accepted on this thread...This could mean absolutely nothing or absolutely everything. Either way, it's been some fun research and networking.

7 people have said they were accepted on this thread. I messaged two of you whom I had previously reached out to and asked where you were from in Washington and what regional site you picked. Both told me they were from Western WA and both said they selected the Everett site. I thought this was interesting so I messaged the remaining 5 strangers who were accepted. 4 of those responded. So 6 of the total 7 accepted have responded to me. Here's the breakdown:

5 of the 6 who responded are all from the Everett area/selected the Everett site. The 6th is from NE WA and picked Spokane. No idea about the 7th person who posted they were accepted yesterday. (You know who you are. I still love you.)

Again, this could all mean nothing but it was interesting and I figured I would share with everyone! Three thoughts on my end by looking at it this way:

1) Not all "alleged" 30 people were called yesterday OR they all were and only 7 post here
2) They are calling/accepting/making decisions based on 15 slots per regional site. (i.e. if you are from the Vancouver region you may actually be examined from a smaller pool to fill 15 seats instead of the entire pool to fill 60 overall seats) and therefore haven't decided on some of the regional sites. Perhaps due to lack of sample size? Or they have decided but haven't moved on to notify those other regions?
3) If we haven't heard there is no need to think that all is said and done and our lives are now over

If you know anyone in uw spokane, then Im sure we can. we'll meet them when school starts anyways so there will be plenty of opportunities to get to know them!

I also realized that I want to change my regional site ranking. They said we could at my interview but I'm not sure when I can. I'm hoping I can get in and figure that stuff out afterwards. I want to be flexible too.

I don't know anyone who will be studying at uw Spokane next year so maybe I'll put off making that page until we meet them. I'm so excited though!

You should shoot admissions an email and see what you could do proactively! If regional roots/site selection plays a factor I think it would be worth it!

I think most people from WA who are medical school applicants will be from Western Washington. At my interview day, they asked who was from the Tri-cities or Spokane, and only a few people raised their hands. I imagine that Everett is just going to be the most competitive because of the distribution of applicants.

Same here. I'm from Western WA and most people at my interview day were. The Seattle area is where most people in the state live. It's just a numbers thing. I'd be real excited to work in other areas of the state.
 
I guess I just hope that by putting a site as our number 1 choice we are not excluded from being considered by the other sites.

Right, but is someone who placed Vancouver as their first choice given priority over someone who didnt when all the spots are filled at their #1? Im sure they are (and rightfully so to a degree) but when it comes down to it I couldn't care less where I spend the clinicals as long as I get in.

I hope you are all right! Obviously the majority of applicants will be from the West side so I hope that doesn't affect us much but I do wonder if they would prefer to put Spokane applicants in Spokane or Tri Cities applicant in Tri Cities for longevity purposes.

Who knows but I just thought it was an interesting finding!

I'd be a little surprised if they took that into consideration. They blinded themselves to our grades and MCAT scores once we met a floor... I don't believe that they would then use site selection ranking as a criterion, especially because they gave site-specific presentations on interview day. One of the associate deans admitted that asking for a site ranking in the secondary app may not have been the optimum time at which to solicit that preference. [Edit: my view is that...] It's possible that they may ask matriculants again.

To those accepted: they didn't indicate your community site in your acceptance offer, correct?

Obviously they can include whatever they wish in their evaluation, but if anything geography-specific comes into play, I imagine it is a question of how strong one's state ties may be, which was explicitly asked in the secondary.

I 100% agree with you! Makes no sense to me that they would choose applicants based on their site preferences, as why would any school choose less competitive applicants just because they indicated a certain site? Regardless of what site I'm assigned to, I would still go to WSU.
 
I wonder if there will be another round of acceptances calls today at 3. Or maybe I rephrase that, I hope there will be another round of acceptance calls today at 3. 🙂

Probably none today. They're fixing an issue with setting up the myWSU account for accepted students and it's taking a while because there are multiple parties involved that need to work together to resolve it.

this might be a dumb question: other schools have "specialties" you can pursue, but does anyone know if WSU is offering them?
or is the idea of a well-rounded general family doctor in place?

Their general desire is to train primary care docs, but they will allow you to pursue elective clerkships in whichever specialty you desire, and are encouraging students to develop a multidisciplinary research project that they will fully fund (at least one or two will be chosen). They also have a sleep lab on campus, so I'm guessing if you are a neuro/psych kinda person 😉 you could pursue some interesting research in this realm.

They have to get provisional after the second year before we do clerkships. Then once we graduate they can apply for full.
 
I feel like the admissions team would appreciate some of this misinformation to discontinue. Your ranking of the intersession sites does not affect your application. Calm your tetas. They gave us a timeline, but I don't know if that's something we are allowed to share regarding next adcom meeting and round of acceptances. Maybe 3/10 bodies can ask what information we can share. Everyone, breathe!

1) According to my understanding of the words said yesterday at the interview, they are watching us on SDN and laughing at us. Haha, hi WSU ESFCOM! Yeah, according to my ears and brain, they confirmed that the ranking of the sites doesn't affect our application. My brain is prone to error. If anyone else wants to confirm, feel free to chime in....
