2017-2018 University of Iowa (Carver)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those who have already interviewed, would you recommend sending a thank you email following the interview, or is that something that Iowa doesn't seem to care about?

I think it is generally good practice to do it after all of your interviews. You never know who appreciates it and even if they don't care, it doesn't do any harm.

Anyone know the dates they are scheduling interviews for right now? And when they will stop sending out IIs?

I think the general consensus is that it likely wouldn't change your admission status, but it's still a nice thing to do. Since nobody on the admissions committee is an interviewer or from the admissions office, I doubt it would change your chances, but I think it's part of the Midwest hospitality that Iowans love!

I sent thank you notes after my interview. I don't think that you have to, but it is a nice gesture.

Only do it if you actually want to, not because you think it will affect the outcome of your admissions decision. They specifically stated it will have no impact whatsoever on your decision as the notes from the interviewers are taken that day, before any thank you notes can arrive.

Acceptances go out tomorrow and according to last years thread for my interview date it is possible to be hearing back tomorrow, interviewed October 4th. Praying to the med school gods right now.
THE MOST PRAYERS

Do you happen to know if October 11th is within that time frame as well?

they specifically told us not to send thank you notes. they won't get forwarded
During my interview, I think I recall them saying thank you notes would be distributed to interviewers. But to be honest, my brain was fried by the time they were talking about it, so I may be making things up. 🙂

To add to all of this, Amy told us on my day this year that they wanted them handwritten and would not accept them by email. This varies by school so thought I would give a heads up.

That being said, I also think you should only do it if you really want to + it's the polite thing to do. It won't increase/decrease your chances significantly since your interviewers would have already submitted their evaluations by the time it reaches them (or not, if you chose not to write).

Weird, she told us to email them to the admissions committee and they would forward them to our interviewers

Everyone I’ve interviewed my interviewer has given me there email/card at the end and I just email directly

I just went by what I was told directly. Not to discredit anyone's experience, but if she told you directly that you could email, then I would go with your personal experience. Ultimately, you can always just call and ask.

+1 to the "it's the polite thing to do."

My Son got accepted today. (He did not created an account here) He received email at 12:40 PT. Email says check on line portal for decision. Interviewed on 10/2, OOS, Lizzy M-81. First acceptance and happy for him. All who are waiting for decision - very best.

PS: Just created this account to post this message. I have been checking this portal last few weeks.

On interview day, they give you a form to fill out and you mail them your receipts and you get a check in the mail.

what?? no one told us this at my interview....
is it for those with a fee waiver or something?

Same.. they didn’t say anything at my interview day 🙁

She called everyone coming from the west coast when we were checking in, and gave us some packet in our folder for reimbursements

Wow, they didn't do that for my interview group... maybe they started it for later interviews. oh well :|

I interviewed in September and they told me about it and gave me the form. You asked for it to be submitted within 120 days of the interview. If you’re still within that range, i would call and ask they’re nice about it

Anyone got rejected or waitlisted? It seems like the people who heard back were the ones who got accepted

They don't reject until January. If you're not rejected you get final pooled. U find out in march if you're rejected waitlisted or accepted. Long ass process

I don't think they do any rejections until January. Not positive about waitlist, but I think that news on that comes out after people from final pool have been accepted, which will happen in March. So long time to wait without hearing either way haha
