2017-2018 University of Kentucky

Hopefully they're mentioning this on interview day for you guys, but apparently UK has applied to the university to change the grading system to pass/fail for 2018. I don't know if that will factor into your decisions at all, but I know the grading system went on my "cons" list when I was deciding where to go 4 years ago.

I like the current scale because im competitve. Im not a gunner by no means but i like knowing where i stand and it motivates me to do better.

That’s very interesting..! I wonder if it would actually start for this upcoming year? Grading was definitely asked about during my interview day and they said we would have a regular grading system no mention of changing to pass fail. But I would certainly be ok with it lol

Has Anyone else who is going to bowling green heard of any of this?

Interviewing at BG campus on Saturday. What should I expect from the interview? Does anyone know if the campus is built yet?

So knowing your grade and how you compare to the class wouldn't go away. You would still get a mean and SD for each exam. They discontinued telling us our exact rank though last year and now you just know quartile.

They mentioned data (I don't have the citation) from a study that showed that people with a pass/fail curriculum don't actually end up performing differently on exams. People who want high 90s still put in the effort to get it, even if it doesn't show on the transcript. However, people's stress levels went way down.

There's a huge push towards mental well-being and resilience now, and I think this is part of that. @MrsApache , they may not have mentioned it because the University has to approve the change and they didn't want to say something that may not come to pass.

I hope it changes, I have friends in pass fail programs and they really love it.

Interviewed 11/14, acceptance call 11/20! Does anyone know how long it takes for the portal to update from "Admissions Committee Review Completed?"

I don't think your status changes from "Admissions Committee Review Completed". I got the call earlier in the month and I submitted my acceptance reply form last week and that is still what my status says.

Hey! Was put on hold after my interview, and about a couple weeks ago got the call that I was accepted... so I didn't have to wait until they "reviewed" them again in December and spring. If you're on hold then there is still hope!
That’s awesome I didn’t know they accepted holds this early!! CongratulTions!!!!

Gotcha. Thanks!

Have any MD/PhD candidates heard back yet? I think they said to expect decisions in December but it sounds like they are making a lot of decisions right now!

Post Interview Hold. Does this mean waitlist??

Anyone accepted on 11/21 receive anything via email or mail yet? I got the call from my interviewer that I got in but I'm wondering if I should have received some written confirmation by now. Thanks!

I called them early this week to ask what I should be expecting and they said that if I hadn't received a letter in the mail by Friday (12-1) that I should call them and they would scan it to me!

I just got mine in the mail yesterday, so I would check within the next few days. It says that it needs to be returned via email or postmark by December 12th, so you still have time.

I ended up getting it the next day. Thanks for the response!

Anyone else without an official acceptance receive a strange email inviting them to admitted students day?

Lol, what was strange about it? I'm a current student and got the same email to welcome future students. It's just a second look that they do every year.

Edit: nm, I see now that you were asking specifically about getting one without a formal acceptance. That is kinda strange.

I apologize if this has already been addressed but do they accept updates? Or do you just tell them about new information during the interview?

Just got an email saying the class is "filled and oversubscribed", so interviews from now on will be for the alternate pool. I wonder how many alternates they pull each year?

Yeah... Im considering dropping my interview since I don't have mine until February

Historically, a good portion of the class has been pulled from the waitlist. I know people in my class who got in from the waitlist after interviewing on some of the last dates, although this was 2014 so it may be different now. I think if you're still interested in coming here, it's definitely worth keeping your interview. This happens every year. For whatever reason, they fill the class pretty early.

Good news. I will interview regardless, as I still have not been accepted anywhere, and there is no harm in interviewing besides the small cost of travel and a hotel. UK would be awesome.

Has anyone else who's been placed on post interview hold had a status change on the portal? Mine currently says "alternate" and I'm wondering if this is just reflective of the hold status, since I haven't heard anything from them otherwise

Mine says that too. Alternate and hold mean the same thing.

It’s now alternate because the class is full. So if someone drops their acceptance you will be compared with the rest of the alternates to take that spot

Sooo once accepted do you continue to study a little before Med school, maybe brush up on anatomy or do u just relax and wait for the fire hose .......
