I interviewed the week before you. I agree, the wait is painful! It's just having things be uncertain. Maybe it's a good lesson to learn. Wishing you luck that you hear good news!

I did it this summer, current M1. Was a lot of fun, we went out basically every weekend as a group, got to know the M2s pretty well and it was great for me since I was new to the area. You have exams every week but its up to you how seriously you want to take it since the grade doesn't actually count for anything. Looking back wish I took the studying a bit more seriously lol.

Did you feel that the content you learned primed you for the kind of intensity of the actual curriculum?

In gross anatomy 100%, as for the other subjects no but that's my own doing for being mad lazy over the summer. Friends that did the program with me but studied hard definitely felt very very prepared this semester thanks to the program. They try to make the curriculum as similar to the pace of the actual year as possible, and do a pretty good job tbh.

Current student. Did IMEI. Agree with the above and think that it is a good way to get a head start on a 1/3 of the first semester curriculum, meet people if you're from out of the area, practice study skills if you have been out of school for any time, and meet people if you are not a local.

Introduction to Medical Education at Iowa | MD Program

Eligibility
The program is open to all students admitted to the 2019-2020 entering medical school class at the Carver College of Medicine. Enrollment is limited. Please consider Introduction to Medical Education at Iowa if you are:
  • A nontraditional student
  • A nonscience major
  • New to Iowa
  • Below the GPA (3.7) and MCAT (511) means of last year’s entering class
 
So I have been trying to avoid checking portals constantly, but today when I logged in I realized that Carver has an updates section where they seem to want summer and fall updates? The deadline for the summer one was Dec 15 and the deadline for fall is in Jan. Are these required? I haven't sent updates anywhere because nothing that has happened to me recently has seemed important enough to send out updates, so I was just going to send my fall semester transcript (which will be posted soon) when I got it and maybe do an update then.

Am I sunk because I missed this "deadline"?
 
Wait...maybe I'm just dumb. Do we only submit summer academic updates if we were enrolled in classes that semester? As in, academic means purely coursework, not "tell us if you got a publication"?

I think the academic update is for coursework, and the other update due in January is for things like publications, new accomplishments, etc.
 
OOS Interviewing here right after New year.... Does that mean my decision goes straight into the final pool?

Any idea when people who interviewed 11/16 will be hearing back? Probs second week of January or so right? Really biting my nails here...I'm OOS.

Yeah I’m guessing January. At my interview day we were told we’d hear back in 6-8 weeks, but possibly longer. If it makes you feel better I interviewed on 10/31 and haven’t heard back yet either.
 
I scheduled my interview for January 14th. Do people who interview around January automatically get put into the pool for March 15th? How slim do the chances get if Im interviewing this late?

Depends if you are IS or OOS. You will certainly be final pooled. But this is not a bad thing other than having to wait until March. Admissions informed me that 65 of the 100 IS students will be accepted prior final pool. Then, the remaining 35 will be accepted in March from final pool. Additionally, many of the initial 65 and latter 35 will rescind their acceptances, so there is even more wiggle room. I am not totally sure how the OOS system works. Hope this helps!
