II, completed 8/4

Does getting a II early in this cycle mean anything?

Anybody that interviewed already, are you sending thank you cards?

I wasn't planning on it, do you think it it is necessary? It won't have any effect on decisions right? Just may be polite.

Yeah I'm not sure. They made it seem like that type of stuff won't change their decision, but I think it might be the right thing to do. And I'm wondering who exactly we would send it to.

I interviewed last cycle and I did. The interviewers in the MMI are basically anonymous, you only know their first names and they aren't all faculty. Plus, too many to remember, so there was no real way to do those. But I did write down the names of all of the faculty members who gave talks throughout the day. I don't know how writing a thank you card could ever be a waste of time, it's definitely the right thing to do regardless of the affect it may or may not have on decisions.

Does anyone know the cost of tuition at the SOM after your first and second years? I was unable to find anything helpful on their website.

They haven't had a fourth year class yet so I don't think they're going to be throwing numbers out. However, if I remember right they gave out info at the interview with close cost estimates. I think it was very similar to first 2 years.

Anyone who interviewed already have any tips or impressions of the day?

I would say overall this is a low stress interview (if you can call any med school interview low stress....). Everyone is so nice and welcoming and they truly just want to get to know you. Obviously, as always, it is important for you to act professional and convey your desire to become a doctor and attend school here... Also, MMI pacing is pretty quick, so be ready for that.

For any current students here:

How are the third years doing now that they've started clinicals? Are they enjoying the rotations that have been set up?

WSU only has first and second years right now

Did anyone happen to get any information about when they'll start releasing decisions? My group was simply told "not October 15th", but weren't given anything more specific 😛

Coincidentally, just received an email about 3 seconds after posting my last comment that they did receive funding to expand their number of seats from 60 to 80. So they'll be seating 80 students this year!

did you guys receive a complete email or is the application complete once you submit your secondary essay?

I saw that email notification on my phone and freaked out, thinking they were sending out acceptances early! After reading the email, I'm filled with both disappointment because it wasn't an acceptance and optimism because more seats are open before they even sent out the first acceptance

Ha, I did the same. All logical thought left my brain and I forgot that they can't send out acceptances until 10/15!

I received an email that said:

Thank you for submitting your secondary application for the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (ESFCOM) at Washington State University in Spokane, Washington. Secondary applications only go out to those who have met all requirements; thus, upon the submission of your secondary application, your full application packet is now complete and will move into the review process.

After interviewing I’ve heard that the first batch of decisions start releasing by the end of this month

Have any first time applicants received interview invites?

So for those who have had more recent interviews. Did they give an idea of when they’ll give out the first round of acceptances?
