I submitted my secondary application for beginning of Oct and have not heard back. How long does the review process usually take? My MCAT is 513 and GPA is 3.90

Depends on the school and your application. I was completed in July and still have not heard back. This could mean not-yet-reviewed, internal hold, or internal rejection. Schools don't necessarily review in chronological order. I have a big suspicion that schools use algorithms to sort applications into a certain number of batches organized by priority criteria set by each school (ex: groups 1-5, or whatever) and then review each individual batch in chronological order. Each school may have a different reviewing process.

I feel like those of us who interviewed earlier like early/mid September are at a bit of a disadvantage since the committee met only once and that was mid/late October. I think the recency effect really helps those that interviewed within the last few weeks as opposed to the majority of us that were likely forgotten so early on (unless you really stood out). Just my 2 cents.

oh thats so sad... so if you interviewed before this and didn't have a portal update its probably not a good sign? I know they said they continue to review us throughout but does anyone who has ventured into previous years forums know if you still have a shot at a later acceptance date?

I was at the second interview date and I’m wondering the same thing (mostly cuz I’m a little salty about the silence right now lol)

The admissions staff told us that they accept a minimal amount of applicants at the beginning of the cycle. I would definitely not worry at this point.

Unless they changed their strategy in accepting people, most people who aren’t accepted out right after each review will not be accepted. I suggest you look away from Emory, and place your best efforts in your other interviews. Good luck in the rest of the cycle.

And yes, while optimism is good, being realistic in this game is better for your mental health.

I find your post cynical with little value to add to this forum. As an Emory college alumn with multiple friends at Emory med, I know a fair number of students who got accepted in later meetings. You are in consideration until March and you should only lose hope once you get rejected.

There's a fine line between being realistic and cynical, and "looking away from Emory" is not being realistic if you attended an interview and haven't gotten a rejection yet

Oh okay. Again, as statistics and common sense will have it, my comment has not been invalidated. It’s obvious that only a few students will be considered who have been bypassed.

In any case, those who can, will get the intent and understanding.

Good luck in the cycle guys and knock em dead in your interviews. Keep an open mind as you progress.
