Congrats!! How much was the scholarship for? I’m hoping for one as wellThank you! Howard really throwing money out there like Oprah haha.
It's a very nice incentive for applicants, especially if someone has multiple offers.

"I hope you aren't held back because of a number. And that you don't rush into things because it feels like time is slipping by. I hope you do what's good for you. Hold on....slow down.... and breathe in... Your age is your age. But more importantly, your life is your life. Don't change your journey so that it matches someone else's. I went to one of the top 5 public colleges and all of my friends are doing great in their careers whereas I guess I am kinda stuck with no real career so it’s almost embarrassing to hang with my folks from college but yes you’re right I guess there’s a perfect time for every thing !
This is so dope. I’m so happy for you! Do you mind sharing stats50% of tuition!
Yes, I agree. I can suspect that the reason they don't talk about it is because it might not be a high average. However, the school isn't really to blame. Pre-clinical years is pretty much independent study, which is the norm across other medical schools. Ergo, if you're interested in a certain specialty then your best bet is to be a good student.
Also I realized, this was the only school that has allowed applicants to see cadavers. Other schools have said no because of privacy and legality issues. Not sure the validity of their statements but its was really amazing having that opportunity.
Adcom stated they offer a range of scholarships to students. One big one is for students with high MCAT score and high GPA. She also stated that the top 2 students in their class receive full ride tuition. Those students who are ranked from 3-10 receive 50% of tuition waived. That's a pretty amazing incentive for students to strive towards.
One last thing: The number one question asked to adcom/current students was with regards to housing. According to one of the current students, if you get accepted they provide you packet of available apartments that medical students have utilized in the past. One of them stated she currently lives in housing provided by Howard for professional students and faculity. She pays about $1200 for the studio and it's about 2 minute walk from the COM.
Sorry for the extra information, but I think it's important to get the full scope of information before deciding if the school is a good fit for you.
My guess would be that it would be after the entire class is finalized.Hi! Just wanted to clarify about the top 2 students. Is that based on the top 2 students to be accepted? Or is it once the class has been consolidated? Thanks!

Well clearly you had something going for you if you were able to get 50% off. Don’t sell yourself so short! A lot of us here just want to know where we stand.☺️lol no good stats that’s for sure.

I think they are interviewing this week and maybe next, but it will slow down until next month after people with multiple acceptances start making final decisions.Any more recent interviews or have they stopped interviewing?
I got the same offer lol. I was shocked at the amount! So I'm driving home from work and I see an email from Howard. . . . .probably reminding me that I need to complete the Health Sciences Financial Aid Application since I received in early in the week but work has been crazy. I open the email and Howard sends me a scholarship notification that is renewable yearly. WOW. Howard is really making my neck hurt like this. Has anyone else received a scholarship award letter prior to the HSFA form?

Congrats! 🙂
I’m waiting as well lol. Hopefully they give out more this weekI want some bags of money too!! Still waiting on some financial aid from them. Lol ♂
Yessss!!!! Howard throwing coins around! I’m so happy for you. The struggle is real out here.Literally in tears because I just got a full-tuition scholarship!!! Have no idea what I did to deserve this, but Howard just made my decision so much harder!!!
Can someone talk about what the interview styles are like? Is it more relaxed, how long it is etc? Details welcomed! thanks

I can only speak on my experience but it was very conversational and relaxed. There are two interviews but I can’t remember how long. They felt very quick but I know it was more than 30mins. I felt like interviewers were excited to meet the applicants and really happy to learn about our journeys. I wouldn’t stress too much. Know your app, why you want to pursue this path and why Howard.+1

One of mine was very conversational and relaxed. The other was not. My second interviewer was very monotonous and kept a straight face the entire time. She also asked some difficult questions, and the interview didn't flow well...(I don't know how to describe this, but for example, we were talking about my hobbies, then she suddenly asked if I thought my MCAT score was competitive). She also interrupted me a lot (and I'm mostly a quiet person, so it's not because I was talking too much lol). It was a lot of rapid-fire questions, and she kept me for almost an hour. It wasn't too bad though because I prepared a lot, so I was able to answer competently, I hope.I can only speak on my experience but it was very conversational and relaxed. When was your interview?Waitlisted today at 10:43 AM. Not sure what to make of it. According to MSAR, the typical waitlist at Howard is 100-125 people and 75 of those students end up getting accepted.

All I remember them saying is that they were going to start to slow down their acceptances and start sending out waitlists because they already sent out as many acceptances as there are seats. Do you remember what they said?
I read the entire thread from last year and saw a lot of movement off of the waitlist around April.they said the waitlist is NOT based on position, it’s based on the person who is giving up the seat. They pull from the waitlist with someone who is similar to the person they are replacing. They didn’t mention exactly what that means. In addition, they also said they go through the WL extensively.
When I interviewed the week of Thanksgiving they said they had about 105-110 given out already. That means that by January all seats should be filled. Those past Jan would be waitlisted or given a seat because someone withdrew or declined their acceptances.
I suspect that as April approaches they will be pulling from the WL more and more. Right now a lot of people are holding on to their spots because they don’t know their financial status/award for all schools. As those schools release their awards I’m sure we will be making more informed decisions.

It just sucks for those of us who have been waitlisted to continue to wait. I know it is better than the alternative, but it is still an emotional roller coasterMy thoughts exactly, pretty sure every school is the same.

Would you explain the difference between "waitlisted " vs " Alternate list" . I thought they are the same .It just sucks for those of us who have been waitlisted to continue to wait. I know it is better than the alternative, but it is still an emotional roller coaster
The alternative is rejected. I don’t think there’s an alternative list besides the list of rejections.Wo

I am confused now. Mine says " Alternate waitlist " . . .The alternative is rejected. I don’t think there’s an alternative list besides the list of rejections.

But the other interview was great!
There is only one waitlist. Individuals on the list are the alternates that replace whoever rescinds their offer. I will say even though Howard says their list isn't ranked, it is. They have an idea of who they want to fill their class its just a matter of if seats become available.

Totally agree with everything you said. And yes the “alternative waitlist” and the “waitlist” are the same. I’m just hoping the accepted student similar to me receives an offer she can’t refuse for the queen she is and they give me a chance lol
