2019-2020 Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
rotations almost done. Got more than. Enough invites. Just the fact how the school wastes your time so much first and second year and some rotation sites are not good put us all in a bad mood with the school.
clinical instructors are all mostly horrible which really hits hard on boards and clinicals. If you sdn search lmu dcom people have described the problems more thoroughly than I am willing to.
You can still succeed but the faculty make it harder than it should be to.
I really still want to send EPC faculty a bill for all our time wasted. And fmhc. Good riddance.

Thanks for your honesty.

Thanks man! Im ORM/OOS with nothing special about my app. Applied broadly to most DO schools and got the A from Knoxville. Doubted my chances every step of the way, but you gotta just take it one step at a time.
I am so happy for you especially being an ORM. When did you send you secondary?

Hi all! I attempted to pay my deposit, but my Make a Payment page just reads "no account balance to pay" with no apparent option to upload a deposit. Has anyone else had this same issue? I will call admissions tomorrow and let y'all know what I hear.

Confirmed my acceptance and paid my deposit on Saturday! I couldn't pay with a credit card because every time I chose that option I got an error message because the page couldn't load, but I was able to pay by e-check.

Does anyone know if there is an accepted students Facebook page?
I emailed Elyse at Knoxville and she said that they send out invites for the class Facebook page in January. I don't know about Harrogate, but I'm assuming it's the same case. She said that there are currently Facebook groups for housing, though.

Primary: Late August
Secondary: Mid September
II: Early October

Matriculation Deposit Issues: Just called the Financial Services office and they confirmed that their credit card system is down and cannot accept payments. It should be up either tonight or tomorrow.

Just cancelled my interview for 1/10/2020, and I hope it will go to someone else here! For reference...I received the email basically stating I was put on pre-interview hold "your will be periodically compared to other applications for competitiveness." on 11/4. Then I received an interview invite on 11/20. Very strange!

Howdy, y'all. Anyone know if this school is still sending out IIs? I was complete 11/6. 🙂

I was complete early September and I have heard nothing. That being said, they give out interviews until March or April, so you never know.

Does anyone know the process behind holding an acceptance? I know they require you to let them know at most 2 weeks after an acceptance but what if I have another interview at a different school that I’m waiting on? Am I allowed to hold this acceptance until I know the results of my other interview?

No.. think about that for a second though. Why would they allow you to hold an acceptance with no collateral? You’re keeping a spot from another potential student, and putting the school on the back burner for a preferred acceptance. It wouldn’t be in their best interest to do that. That’s why every school has a deposit deadline. I’d just pay it if it’s your only one, and if you get in somewhere else.. at the end of the day it’s a drop in the bucket for certainty that you’ll be going to med school next year.

I should have done my research before asking but it seems as though MD and DO schools have different protocols behind holding acceptances. MD schools allow you to hold acceptances up until May for around $100, depending on the school. But for DO schools it varies depending on what the deposit for each school is. Do you know what the deposit for this school is?

The deposit to hold your acceptance is $1250. I was accepted in late November and that is what they asked me to put down to reserve my spot!

Does anyone know about the duel DO/MBA program here? I have been looking up opinions on it but can't seem to find any on the internet. I was thinking about doing it if my first year goes well since an MBA would be nice if I start up my own practice but I would like to hear from students who have signed up for it first!

Has anyone gone to the Meet and Greet the night before the interview and have any insight on what to expect?
I would definitely recommend going if possible. Very laid back and helped settle the nerves before the interview. All of the students were great and it was a perfect time to ask questions about what to expect next year from the people who are currently living it.

Have anyone who paid the matriculation deposit received any email after December 14th?

I received an email essentially saying welcome again look for further emails about castlebranch and the facebook group

Got a call today, asking if I still was interested in attending after being placed on the waitlist in October. I withdrew my application during the call, so I’m not sure if they were giving acceptance calls or cleaning up their waitlist.

@Leebeein Apartments that people are staying in are tapestry, aventine on the grove (I think it’s called that, waterstone, greystone, and more. There are a lot of apartments in the area. You have a ton of choices. I think someone posted on here that they will be making the Facebook group in the next few months. January sounds right but idk for sure

Got the call today and accepted a seat at Knoxville campus! Does anyone know what apartment complexes people usually stay at in the area? Also is there a Facebook group?
There are sooo many options for apartments! Depends what you’re looking for and how close you want to be to campus. They made a housing FB group for our class, as well, which helped!

Any current Harrogate students have suggestions regarding a car? If one is recommended should it be able to handle snow? Thanks!

You definitely need a car to get around, but people have all kinds so unless you're getting a new car, you're fine with what you have.

We don't get snow too often, and when we do the university tends to close. If anything, the mountain can be hard on cars without 4WD/AWD - but like I said, people have all kinds of cars.

awd or 4wd is nice but you don’t need it. School will close prior to needing anything more than FWD on the roads. When it comes to clinical? I don’t know if anyone ever had to go on when roads where bad. Unless your preceptor is a jerk which I haven’t experienced at my site. they know you are a broke med student and need to keep your car in one piece till graduation. The school policy says you have to notify them if you get a snow day but nobody does obviously since they would probably say “yOu sHoUlD bE tHeRe”.

I live in Knoxville there are LOTS of apartments very close by

You have a much better shot if you wrote about being interested in rural med or their mission, but you still definitely have a chance of an interview. If you haven't done any shadowing, that will up your chances for most schools (especially if you can shadow a DO).

would this be mentioned in secondaries or personal statement?

It’s not hard to find - ball realty and tk rentals are solid just get on it early

And don’t live at the inn unless you like paying premium prices for a trashy hotel room with cold water

I honestly thought the inn was a good option when I did the tour. Do you really think is bad? I feel like I wouldn't like to live in a house during my first semester since I am not familiar and don't know the place very well. I was thinking about living in the inn in my first semester and then look for a better option when I learn more about the place. What do you guys plan on doing?

Also, if anyone has any ideas or something, just send me a message 🙂

It’s a safe small town not much to know

I’ve heard it sucks to live at the inn. Everyone I’ve spoken to recommends looking elsewhere unless you have no choice
