I wrote one thank you note to the Admissions office and they forwarded it appropriately!

Dumb question here i go

On the secondary it says

5. Please note the following information regarding residency: All admission applications are reviewed with regard to the residency status filed with AMCAS. Residency must be established prior to making application. Unless the review reveals information that brings into question the designated residency status, we will consider applicants based on their stated residency status. Applicants will be notified by email of questions regarding their residency status.

Does this mean residency has to be established in kentucky?
Or you that i need to confirm my residency as listed on my primary?

OOS btw.

It means you will be considered on the basis of your current residency as listed on AMCAS. Even if you have plans to move to KY and establish residency, you will still be considered on the basis of what is listed on AMCAS. If they have any suspicion of your listed residency, they will investigate further. Basically for admissions and tuition purposes. You can still apply if you are OOS.

Thank you! just wanted to make sure they did not mean "you must establish Kentucky residency beforehand"

anyone that interviewed open to DMing me? I have questions about my upcoming interview

Anyone know anything about the application/interview timeline at this school? I’m OOS complete end of July and other OOS people that submitted after me already have interviews. I have verified that I’m complete with admissions. My GPA and MCAT match school average.

It's not just about MCAT GPA. As you know, your personal statement, ECs, and LORs will influence how your application is viewed in the eyes of admissions. There really isn't a way to give a timeline. Hang in there!

OOS here, I received an interview invite a little over a month after submitting my secondary

I’d like to think my EC’s are at least average if not above as I am 1.5 years post grad already and work in a lab FT. Maybe something to do with the distance. I’m not a neighboring state, definitely a good distance away. Just makes me anxious because of the distance and my FT job, it’s hard to interview with little or no notice.

I interviewed here today...
they have an AM session and a PM session. If you want to get your interviews done early on in the day, do the AM session. The interviews are 20-25 minutes open-file but closed file in regards to mcat/gpa. You have 2 interviews with faculty and the general consensus was that they were pretty conversational. Be prepared to answer the usual questions (why medicine? why UofL? strengths/weaknesses, etc). There are a few info sessions conducted by various people on the adcomm (dean and assistant dean). They let you know that their committee meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month (Sept-March) and then calls/emails about acceptances/waitlist/rejection the following Wednesday. As for the rest of the day, they pair you with a medical student (eg: each interviewer gets their own med student) for lunch and for a tour of the school where you can ask whatever you want. Everyone was very friendly and I enjoyed the day a lot. Also, they just switched their grading system to pass/fail for the pre-clinical years which is a big pro for me so I thought I'd share since it still says they're H/P/F on MSAR. They record their lectures and have them posted online for those who are curious about that (non-mandatory attendance)

II just now for the Oct. 10 morning session. OOS but graduated from UK in May 2019. My brother's family is living in Lexington. Only options were on the Thursdays (weird and inconvenient to have interview days on Thursdays but whatevs) 10/10 or 10/17

What did you do to prepare for it? and besides the usual questions, were there any wacky ones that threw you off or to watch out for?

"If you were a cell in the body, what cell would you be?" I think it's on the SDN school page too bc someone else mentioned it. Everything else was straightforward

I totally understand, I have a feeling they will give you at least two weeks notice. I know that can still mean an expensive flight, but better than a few days! I am from Kentucky and even then they gave me 3 ish weeks notice before my interview. Sorry, I can’t remember if you said you have tied to Kentucky/UofL? That could be a reason why you haven’t heard from them yet, it’s very much so an in-state heavy school. Just trying to help give you some answers, not trying to worry you!

I’m not tied to Kentucky at all but the MSAR made it seem somewhat open to OOS and I really do like the school!

They are open to out of state but they only interview about 6-7% of out of state applicants as compared to about 60% of in state applicants being interviewed. Per the website, “Consistent with the mission of the University of Louisville as a state university, residents of Kentucky are given preference for admission. Applications from nonresidents are accepted; those with significant academic, personal or family ties to Kentucky are given preference.“ not trying to discourage you again, just helping you find answers as to why you likely haven’t heard from them! Feel free to DM me if you have any questions, I hope ive been helpful!

I am OOS. Complete 8/13. Stats are 509 MCAT, ~3.6 sGPA and ~3.7 cGPA. 4 years of research, 1 publication and working on the second. Traditional applicant. Chemistry major. I have strong ties to Kentucky and I believe I fit the school's mission well. It's my first interview invite and the more I look into the school, the more I love it!!
That’s so awesome! Congratulations!! I’m still waiting to hear back. Very nervous. You sound like an outstanding applicant. Wish you the best

Thank you so much! I'm sure you will hear back soon! And just think that there is a reason you applied here and thought you were a competitive applicant, so believe in yourself and trust the system! I'm rooting for y'all!!

Sooo, to those who have interviewed, anyone have any good tips on staying distracted until Oct 16th?? I feel like checking this page every twelve minutes isn't very healthy haha.

Probably a good thing to check to see if anyone posts any helpful tips or things about the Interview Day tbh

Sorry, I wasn't very clear there. I interviewed last week, but adcoms start sending out decisions on Oct 16th. Going a little stir-crazy waiting on the news haha.
I guess I should post my impressions of the interview though.

Isn't it October 15th for Uofl and all other schools?

I interviewed on the same day and had a very similar experience. UofL was my first interview ever, but I found it surprisingly painless (I still walked in pretty anxious, even though everyone says Louisville is very low-stress). I took a morning slot, and my interviewers were a faculty member and a local physician. They usually do one faculty and one student, but all of the students had exams or practicals that morning. My first interviewer mostly asked questions directly from my primary app, and the second had a more freeform approach and we ended up talking about things like my family and public health in urban areas. Both were very friendly.

Overall, my impressions were very positive. Louisville itself is a fun city and the medical campus is located within a couple blocks of downtown and some fun little neighborhoods. The medical campus was nice and there was an outdoor courtyard between the med and dental buildings, filled with students studying, so it had a very lively atmosphere. The interior of the med school was renovated fairly recently, so lots of bright colors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and plenty of computers and tv screens for group study. Also, all the workrooms had tons of desk space, so plenty of room to spread out when studying (I'm a sprawler lol). All of the students I met were very genuine and seemed to really love attending UofL. The student who gave me my tour was very enthusiastic about answering my questions and making sure I got a feel for the culture of the school.

Like Limeyguydr mentioned, lectures are streamed and recorded. My masters was set up this way too and, although I almost always went to lecture, I found it tremendously helpful to have the recordings so I could take notes later on at my own pace. The curriculum is set up in a way that lets you get a feel for the academic rigor of the classes before allowing you to branch out into research and other extracurricular programs. Speaking of which, there are tons of volunteer and research opportunities for you to get involved in, and it seems like they have quite a variety of groups that get together just to have fun. The student who led our group mentioned volleyball, salsa dancing, and a general fitness group, so lots of community and camaraderie among the students, which I greatly value.

TLDR, loved the school, the day was well-organized, and I would be happy to attend. Can't think of any cons. Please feel free to ask any other questions! 🙂

Is there a place on the applicant portal to submit updates to my application or should I email their admissions office with my update?

There’s a chance we find out tomorrow right?
