I am sorry but unfortunately it is not "very early". As stated in their emails they will be giving out interviews until January 2020, WHICH means there is only 3 months left. So go figure.

That’s a good point. I applied ED and had my interview already so my mistake on the RD remark. Just patiently waiting to hear back...
 
same..im applying after getting waitlisted last cycle.

i just called gina, and asked if that is the case
 
Yes... all EDs who are not accepted do get deferred to RD! Which means yay!!! EVEN MORE competition!
 
Yall, I know it is nerve wracking but please remember they said you would hear back by Oct 1 and we have heard of people getting acceptences the past 3 days. So if you haven't received a deferred or rejection email by now then don't worry too much over it. I am on the same boat, have not heard anything but I am optimistic (even though I think I bombed my interview). During our interviews, we were told that AT LEAST half the class will be from the ED applicant pool; she emphasized the 'AT LEAST'. So even if you get deferred (even if I get deferred), keeping a positive attitude about it will probably be better for you. It's hard I know but what else can you do...

that is true but keep in mind that 80-85 per campus.. I think. ALSO idk how accurate this is, I hope someone proves me wrong, but on the folder from the interview the one with your interviewers on them there is bullet point that said something like 12 students will be accepted and notified by mid March 2020.

Whats important to remember is that the fact we received interviews means we *are* good enough. Mercer wouldn't waste its time interviewing anyone that they couldn't potentially see as a student. Additionally, people also get rejected at this stage, but we weren't. If they weren't legitimately keeping us in consideration, then we'd have been rejected. We have no reason not to be hopeful.

If you're currently still in school, use this as motivation to slay this semester and submit a great transcript update.
If you're currently not in school, capitalize on the free time you finally have from academics to volunteer and show how dedicated you are to serving the underserved.
If your MCAT is a little low, you have 3.5 months to prepare for the january test.
If you weren't as knowledgable about primary care as they would have liked to see, use this time to shadow and establish a great relationship with a primary care physician.

The worst thing you could do right now is get discouraged. We got this.

Still this feels like worst possible outcome almost. I mean they said they RARELY reject an ED applicant unless they were a psycho during interview. Being deferred feels like I just got rejected even despite a strong interview and extra rec letter and update letters sent. Seems like I did everything right but now I just don’t know anymore...

I hope you’re right. I’m a reapplicant and felt everything I did was better this time around but this process is honestly like playing the lottery

Good stats info.
Just wondering if comparatively lower MCAT candidates are all deferred. That may mean everyone can retake MCAT to improve chances, may be.
 
Does anyone have info on % of interviewees accepted? I know that people seem to often have this data for other schools but I don't think I've ever found it for Mercer.

i will not provide actual stats for you but I hate to see the major misinformation being spread here. your numbers are all off, by a pretty large margin. and the "less than 10 not accepted at all if they got interviewed during EDP" is just not true. More people are interviewed during EDP than the class itself can hold, so far more than 10 EDP interviewed applicants are not accepted. Everyone please stop trying to play a numbers game and do they best you can as your own individual applicant

I don't really doubt that you're right, but why not provide actual stats if you have them? Just curious.

Misinformation can definitely be a dangerous thing! Hearing the fact that many EDP rejections did already occur is also oddly reassuring to hear because it makes me feel better that the decision to defer me rather than reject me was intentional. Theres always a silver lining somewhere!

I am RD and got an II on September 13th. I am a nontraditional student and URM. This process is stressful.
