Yeah that sounds about right.

Edit: makes sense too because they interview close to 1000 for a class of 92ish. And they know not many people are gonna turn it down so they don’t really overshoot. I think dean Rivera said that they might accept like 101 students off the bat.

... so maybe more like 10%? Lol

Edit: i heard like 90-100 acceptances for abt 1k interviews so maybe a bit better but idk 8 seems safe

That means that they needed to accept 3x their enrolled students. This makes sense because even though it's free tuition the geniuses getting in here are also probably getting full scholarship offers to other T10 schools that may be closer to home, better climate...etc. So although they may claim that their yield is close to 100 percent, it just isn't true. I know that initially they may place a lot of people on hold, but eventually they DO end up accepting close to 300 (assuming US news is correct and it has been pretty close to accurate for almost every other school). Don't give up hope, people.

Honestly I don’t think so. They may have accepted like max 15/20 people already meaning there are still a lot of spots. I wouldn’t say all hope is lost here yet

MSARs data is from the cycle where people found out about free tuition during their white coat ceremony. So essentially we’re all confused about what the post ii could be but from those who attended an interview it seems that 8-10% is the gospel
 
I remember he told us on interview day that last year their yield was either 45 or 55% (I don’t remember which)

edit: and that would have been after they announced free tuition
 
Just posting this to add another data point for us neurotic premeds out there:
Hold to R today, LM: 72 (high GPA/low MCAT from T3 undergrad). Not surprised; just thankful for some closure at one of the schools I applied to. Good luck to everyone else!

This might just be my opinion, but I feel like there are a lot of people who will choose name/prestige over financial considerations. Personally I'd pay full tuition to go to HMS, Hopkins, or any other T10 really over NYU, since that is what gives me more happiness and I don't really care that much about the debt since I know i'll be able to pay it off. I know this sentiment is echoed by some of my prestige-obsessed classmates too who are gunning for ultra competitive specialties. Everyone has different priorities though.

Lmao is it bad if I feel the same way? People always say you shouldn’t pick a job based on what makes the most money, but what makes you the happiest. Couldn’t that same logic be applied here? Yes for some people the money is important, but for others name might be more important if they really want to maximize they’re chances of matching into a really competitive program.

There is a difference if you look at match lists. Also again some people are willing to pay extra for name brand. This is why people buy expensive watches and purses since it makes them feel good.

Different strokes for different folks. I personally don't like expensive things and would rather go to med school for free than have "prestige."

But the choice is y'all's to make (not mine; I got rejected).

NYU's name is not even close to Harvard's. Truth is, the only thing NYU is attracting is students who are money hungry. Most medical students come from well off backgrounds. The people taking the 200k care more about money than they do other factors (not all of them obviously but a large percentage). I bet you this will have the opposite effect in that LESS people from the class will go into primary care. I mean, if you cared about money at this point, why wouldn't you in four years? Nothing against NYU but thats honestly the type of people I think they are attracting.

Not sure if I'd say money hungry. I feel that more so it's people who don't have parents to help pay for med school. I think money hungry people would actually try to go to the most prestigious place they get into and then go into like derm lol

lmao imagine typing this out, reading it, nodding to yourself, and posting "NYU is attracting students who are money hungry". Imagine waving off 200K in debt as "caring only about money"??

I want to go into PCP for underserved, that is not lucrative at all and having fewer loans to pay off is a meaningfully reduced barrier to my career goal. Going to Harvard would be great, but it is not necessary for what I want to do and would just serve as a barrier to it. (I say this as someone who happily went there for UG)

Exactly I think moral of the story is that we all have different goals and different ways to achieve those goals.
 
I think it's overlooked that if someone is holding an acceptance at NYU, it's a pretty big bargaining chip come later in the cycle. If that person is in the top (5-17%) of NYU interviewees they may just be THAT desirable elsewhere, too. It could well be possible that the majority of people that turned down NYU admission got full CoA elsewhere. Just my 2 cents from the peanut gallery.

Do a lot of schools match? I was interviewing at Penn recently, and some interviewee asked "do you guys match" and the financial aid representative jokingly said something like, "no we won't match the full ride you get at NYU" lolol

It seems as if you’re insinuating that wanting a school because you won’t have to pay as much for it is less admirable than wanting a school just bc you can slap “T10” on your resume after all this. Everyone has their priorities. The key word is that *most* (id even just say a lot, not most) pre meds are well off. The rest of us will happily take dean rivera’s call lol

Also, NYU is a GREAT school and ill go to my grave with that i d c
