2019-2020 Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did anyone here interview earlier this week and care share a little about the interview day?
Really relaxed 1 on 1 interview with an interviewer who genuinely wanted to get to know you outside of your academic achievements etc. There weren't any "gotcha" questions, just a conversation about your reasons for choosing med and osteopathy followed by a student tour. Just read over your PS and try to find a way to briefly articulate your interest in do and youll be fine

Hey guys, I just received an email about shadowing a PBL class on the interview day. I was wondering if any past interviewee’s had any opinions on this? I choose the traditional curriculum as my first choice so is it good to see the PBL? What do you think?

Edit: Decided that since I choose the traditional, I won't take up the space of someone who choose PBL. Good luck everyone 🙂

Interviewed last week. glad to answer any q's
Any idea how long they take to respond?
Hey! Can I PM you? I have a couple of questions 🙂 Thanks so much. According to last years thread, it takes about 2-4 weeks. the committee meets on the first and third Friday of every month to discuss the interviewees.

Appreciate the info!
Ofc, glad to help however I can 🙂

For the optional essay, is the question more of explaining any discrepancies in your application? Did most people choose to write it?

Did anyone hear that Rowan is planning on moving all PBL students to a different location/campus entirely? I'm not sure when this is happen or if it will happen at all. I have a friend who is MS2 at Rowan and she let me know this might be a possibility.

From what I remember during interview day, the PBL students currently have their own building on campus (right next to the building where the traditional students have their lectures). They are expanding the PBL program, and I recall them speaking regarding it, but can't remember the specifics. I tuned out since I prefer traditional.

Shadow if you are really considering it. If not, no big deal!

Hi all - I attended the online chat info session and Rowan had a virtual OMT, PBL, and student Q&A. I saved the chat log if anyone is interested. Shoot me a PM.

Im an URM and I interviewed the first day of interviewers.... Got asked about diversity and I mentioned growing up in the inner city and such and was asked " why should i pick you over another minority"

School was at the top of my list pre-interview....dove straight to the bottom after the interview.

Undoubtedly a very poorly worded question but I assume they were just trying to prompt you for an experience unique to only you

Yikes what an embarrassingly awful question

Shoulda reported it

wowza. was he/she white?
Yes, he was white. I don't usually make things about race, but when I explain to you about my upbringing as a minority in the black community in the inner city and you ask me that, it reads as either he was invalidating my experiences or he feels that most black people grow up in that environment, so its not "special enough" to me.

Shoulda reported it

Yeah I was stuck between feeling like it may not be valid to report and thinking that it could backfire on me.

How long did it take from secondary submission to complete email?

Dude/dudette I am so sorry that happened to you. You deserve better. How the f did you even answer that question? I would’ve stared at him and been like ... I don’t even know I would have answered that.

Basically said that all of my experiences increased my cultural awareness.

Idk if I'd take an encounter with one clearly wrong individual and generalize to the school. I still feel where you're coming from.

I didn't get the vibe that the school tolerates any of that nonsense when I interviewed. I don't think it's too late to still reach out and tell them about it.

Does anybody know if this school does silent rejections?
Doesn't seem like it.
I also doubt it given how responsive the admissions office is.
Just give it time.
When I interviewed they said they had ~5k apps last year, and were already at ~3k by the beginning of this August.
They just need time.
We got this!

So not to be a weirdo but just so I can get a sense of timing can you lay out your whole path? Like date submitted through AACOMAS, secondary received, secondary completed, date interview request received? I'm just curious

Sure! I submitted AACOMAS 6/4, received a secondary on 6/26 and submitted that on 7/6. I was marked complete on 7/25. Got the interview invite via email on 7/31. Had my interview on 8/12 and received a call from the person who interviewed me today!

Stats: ORM, IS, LizzyM 70, reapplicant (first time applying to DO)
