2019-2020 Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wouldn’t worry about that. I have a few friends who go here who submitted really early and didn’t get interviews until November. One of my friends who had really high stats didn’t get accepted until December one year and he was complete in June. There’s no rhyme or reason as to how they interview applicants.
Thank you for this!! Was losing hope, but this will keep me going (-:

Hi everyone! I was just verified by AACOMAS. 3.53 cGPA, 506 MCAT, Pennsylvania resident. I know this school takes mostly NJ residents and I’m wondering if it would be worth it to apply, especially at this point in the cycle?

Ideally I’d like to stay along the east coast. Applied to PCOM, NYITCOM, and UNECOM so far.

Hi everyone! It's been a month since my interview so I'm now refreshing the portal basically 24/7. Can you accepted folks (congrats btw!!!!!) let us know exactly where the admissions tab shows up?
Edit: Also anyone who's been rejected, does that show up in email/letter form? Or on portal as well?

Adcom meets the first and third fridays of ever month and the vast majority of people who got calls from their interviewer said it was Friday evening or Saturday. Personally I never got a call but I first noticed the portal change on a Monday(although it could’ve changed a bit earlier) followed by an email and letter a few weeks after that. Hope that helps

DO cycle runs later than allopathic so you still have plenty of time. As for in state preference, it certainly does have a bias towards nj residents but there’s still a decent number of oos students. I’d say that as long as you can provide a non-bs rationale for why you’re applying there during your interview you should be fine

So helpful! Thank you!!!

Anyone know the success rate of matriculating/getting an acceptance if you receive a II at this school?
50/50, you either get in or you dont. Sorry, that was my dad joke for the day. I've been referencing this for most schools but I'm not entirely sure if Rowans on it

also dont know how accurate it is, found it on reddit a few months ago

Yeah, I'm not too sure if it's referring to Cooper or RowanSOM.
Usually Cooper is referred to as Cooper (official name Cooper Medical School of Rowan University) not Rowan University, so I would assume that is RowanSOM.
Also if you add the IS matriulants & OOS matriulants= 186, which is the size of a first year class at RowanSOM, not Cooper (cooper is around 100)

This is fantastic, thank you!

When they asked for spanish proficiency, I put fair/good. I have fair conversation skills, but a good understanding when listening. I just prefer not to have
an interview in spanish when I am already nervous about what I am going to say in english lol

Hey, I answered good/proficient and did not have to speak in Spanish. The interview day truly was as low stress as an interview could be. Don’t worry! 🙂

Hey sorry to hear about the R... But do you think the interview went badly or was it hard?
My interview was with Dr. B and it felt terrible. He took a phone call during our interview, asked me personal questions about my family (not relevant to any stats or experience) and told me how “non-judgemental” he was while emphasizing his affiliation with the catholic church (I work in abortion access and as a sexual assault survivor advocate). He also insisted on hugging me after the interview which made me super uncomfortable, but because it’s a Med school interview and I really LOVED this school, I didn’t say anything. My stats are good, 503 MCAT, and I have tons of shadowing and healthcare experience. Sorry to use SDN to vent but I am super bummed out!

keep your head up! There’s still plenty of time remaining in the cycle. It just takes 1!! Do you mind sharing when you interviewed?

Can anyone please tell me if accepting the admissions offer on the portal is binding?

Anyone else interviewing tomorrow that was never sent an email with an exact time?

I was getting so anxious because I haven't gotten 1 acceptance yet so I randomly checked the portal and saw the admissions offer tab this morning! Was in shock bc I didn't get a phone call or email! Interviewed 9/26

1st acceptance!!

Congrats!! Are you IS or OOS?

I'm so embarrased... I made the most classic mistake but in the most unclassic way. I just realized that my first sentence to the "why RUSOM" essay contains the name of another medical school. What's crazy is that the sentence was supposed to be removed completely. I was deciding between two different style intros to use for the essay and ended up writing something completely different, but somehow didn't notice one of the template sentences was still there. Even with me rereading it (like I do everytime I paste my essays into the supplemental applications), my mind must have read right over it. This school was a top choice for me too and I put so much effort into those essays. Even applying to as many schools as I did, the mass majority of my essays are completely original, just using "inspiration" from things I've already written." That's why it's taking several hours to complete each one. I e-mailed admissions letting them know that my essay was supposed to start with the second sentence and asked if it is possible for me to submit an updated essay. SMH. I'm toast, because I'm not even competitive. My essays are the only thing I have! So many hours put into writing those essays... I'm just so disappointed and wanted to share that with you guys because maybe someone else has experienced this as well. Goodluck to everyone still in the running and please pray for me if you're into that type of thing!

Anyone interviewing on 11/5? Kinda getting nervous!
Already interviewed, but I would say it just comes down to being able to hold a conversation. I know it sounds cliche, but just be yourself. Know your background, your story, and what defines you as an applicant. Don't feel the need to change it or try to make it sound like what you think the interviewer wants to hear. My interview was extremely low-stress and you just have to remember that the interviewer is your advocate to the committee. Try your best to formulate strong answers by having an idea of what you want to say for certain questions like: tell me about yourself, why medicine, why DO, and why RowanSOM? Also, try to intertwine examples from your experiences when possible into your answers. Just be confident in yourself! It comes down to preparation and being able to articulate what you want to say about yourself, so do mock interviews if possible. Good luck!

They aren't able to allow me to resubmit my secondary with the corrected information, but I was recommended to submit an e-mail with the proper essay attached for them to add to my portal. Within the last hour, I have also been told that "RUSOM" is not the correct abbreviation for the school. I used this abbreviation multiple times in that same "Why RowanSOM?" essay - thankfully, not in any of the others. I might have dug my own grave with this one, but miracles do happen.

Just got an II. Complete 10/11. OOS. I'm excited. if anyone has any suggestions for airports and commuting to the school for the interview please PM or reply. I would really appreciate it. Thanks
the holiday inn on 121 laurel road like 5 minutes away and has a rowan rate so lik only 99 dollars. staff nice and free breakfast at 6:30 am

No, I haven't called because I don't want to be viewed as impatient. Have you had any success by calling them by any chance?
I was accepted in September, but I never called specifically in regards to the status of my application. However, I know it's possible to set up an appointment with either Dean Watkins or Jeannine Cusick. This would def allow you to convey your interest in the school to a greater extent and ask more questions if you still don't hear back. Good luck!

If I was complete mid-august am I probably rejected silently

You're not alone, I have been waiting as well. I have low stats and I am not a NJ resident (although I live in Philly), so that is probably why they are overlooking me until later in the cycle when they have to fill seats.

@ people who were accepted. We don’t have to send in any of the forms or do anything until December 14th right?
