2019-2020 UC San Francisco

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Welp. Underwhelming WL movement this year. Will be accepting my fate and CTE to a different school tomorrow.
Maybe consider asking your PTE for a possible CTE extension. Or asking UCSF if they will consider applicants even after they have CTE’d to another school.

Just heard from a waitlisted friend that she lost access to UCSF services like the Financial Aid portal. I logged in and could still access mine but I wonder what that means

I am so sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it appears as if the final class roster for the entering Fall 2020 class at UCSF has been finalized:

It appears as if @UCSFMedicine's Class of 2024 is 23% Hispanic/LatinX, 22% Asian, 20% White, 19% Black, and includes 4 Native Americans.

Incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn’t realize Trump was on SDN

I like how I come for dialogue, and the moment I don't have the same opinion as the masses I get branded as a bad person and thats that. Nothing I said got addressed, instead I must be just racist.

Explain to me how those numbers are justified? Please, I honestly just want to understand.
I will take back what I said immediately and flip sides. Explain how this is fair. I'm just using the numbers given by the school and the state and seeing a mismatch.
Help me then.

Sounds horrible. Completely racist towards Whites.

Let's see, in California 37% of the population is white, and yet only 20% admitted were white? So literally a 1/2 cut down on representation?

Meanwhile Asians and Blacks are both horribly overepresented by their population proportion (actually blacks by 4X). And no, I don't want to even hear a peep about "privledge", I'm willing to guarantee those Asians are just as, if not more privledged than the whites. And to be perfectly honest, I doubt a lot of these admitted blacks are particularly underprivledged either, and even if they were, I wonder how Leftists in their twisted minds rationalize how excluding a poor white person from a trailerpark ghetto is excusable under "oh hes/shes white, so they can't REAALY be underprivledged".

Stupid. Grossed out by this. If whites trully understood how horribly they were being discriminated against, there would be a civil war. UCSF thinks its progressive but this is blatant racism.
I do agree with your sentiment that those numbers is not progress and should not be lauded as such (though probably for different reasons than you). And I also do have my doubts regarding whether UCSF was truly able to recruit disadvantaged Asians (or any other race for that matter).

However, I urge you to step away from making blanket statements about a particular race. By doing so, you are following the same logical path and making the same assumptions and using the same broad-stroke thinking that affirmative action policies make. I guarantee you that there are many many disadvantaged and less-privileged, who get screwed over big-time by both conservative and liberal policies. And even with the "privilege" that Asians supposedly all ubiquitously have in education, we as a group are severely lacking in political representation, role models in high-leadership (even the AAMC, who created the URM initiative, has supported the idea that Asians are very underrepresented in leadership), administrative advocates for our race and the ethnicities that identify as Asian, we pale in representation in nearly every other profession but yet without similar policies to uplift us, and the list goes on.

I would also like to see their admissions process, breakdown of stats medians between demographics (like what the AAMC does but specifically for UCSF), and even control for other aspects of SES. Though, knowing how this process works and how it is against transparency, I doubt the data will ever be viewed by the public.

I agree with you actually on a lot of points. To be fair Asians are very overepresented in medicine, so thats a null point here, BUT you are right, there are many underprivledged Asians out there, and I do actually wish I could step back from blanket policies. Maybe somewhat unimportant, but i voted for Yang fyi, not because he was Asian though, but because he had the best ideas.

In a just world, we would judge each persons privledge or not based on their socioeconomic background, and thats that. Very simple. I wouldnt even play this stupid race game to begin with.

But Im just saying that even playing the Leftist game, and saying we need to be "proportionate" with the population, its still discriminatory against whites.
