Disregard. Not a secondary. Residncy confirmation. Despite a washington mailing address, washington parental address, washington high school, washington driver's licence, and washington undergraduate institution...

Is it bad? Or do you just have to verify your address like the other poster said?

Received residency form. Lived and educated within WA all my life. I think this is standard protocol now.

The Wyoming residency verification is worse... I had to give them every address I have EVER lived at, every place I have worked, filed taxes, all the cars I have ever owned and all of that information for my parents. It was crazy.
For Washington we just have to give city, state, population (?) and timeframe.

For this question:

"If yes, have you had continuous residence in Washington for 5 years or more? (Continuous residence is a person who is maintaining and primarily occupying their primary residence in Washington without interruption other than short-term, temporary absences such as vacations, and has not taken legal actions to establish a domicile elsewhere.)"

Does leaving the state for 2 years due to schooling fall under "short-term"? During my time in school my permanent address was always my parent's home in Washington, but the wording of that sentence seems to imply shorter periods (i.e. months as opposed to years).

Also just received this residency verification despite having lived in WA my entire life. Immediately filled it out and submitted, will check back when I receive a secondary.

I left washington for 9 months to live in OK and TX for military service, came back to WA for 6 months again for military service, picked up a job in OR for 5.5 months (never switched legal state of residence), and have now been in WA for 4 years. Do y'all think it is safe to say yes to this one?

Also got the residency form, guess they sent those all out now (it was just filling out places you lived 🙄)

Not to be a pain, but probably not OK if you left for military or work. If you lived anywhere else, that's not a "continuous residence", even if you maintained your WA license, property, etc. Unless you were like, commuting from Vancouver to Portland or something?

I recommend explaining it, just to be absolutely safe. I'm sure they'll think this is fine, they're used to military applicants.

They should still view be as a WA resident, i believe based on "returning to washington within 12 months of leaving military service with the intent of establishing domicile"just found on their website.

Yup, that’s what I was going to do. A little confused as to why they care about the population, but whatever lol. Thanks!

To determine whether you've lived in rural vs suburban vs urban communities, I think. Another secondary had me do this, and that was their explanation.

Right, but what about the job? Did you file state income tax in OR or rent/buy property there?

Huh...I lived in 3 states and 5 cities between July of 2013 and August of 2015. I didn't realize how much I had moved around.... Nifty.

That’s what I figured right after I posted haha. Makes sense, but you would think UW would have a pretty good idea just based on the area a city is in the state. Oh well.

Yah, I purchased property in OR and paid state income tax for the first half of 2015. However, I was only there for 5.5 months after my military service and have since been in Washington for 4 years.

Being that I have an II at WSU and they seem to be more strict about state of residence, I am not too worried. Now you are getting me worried lol

Well, you do what you think is best, but I personally think that this means you can't answer yes to the "continuous residence for 5 years question" without an explanation. Unless I'm somehow misunderstanding and the 5.5 months was a military gig that wouldn't apply based on what you found on the website? If it was a civilian job then I think it warrants an explanation for why you were out of WA for a half year.

I honestly do not think it's going to be a big deal, you're a stellar applicant and you have strong ties to the state. But, again, totally your call, just my $.02

If anyone was curious, they are closed today and tomorrow (my guess is they planned this to get all caught up with the wave they are about to receive?) so don't expect anything today would be my guess.

Oh no, we agree on that. I checked the "no" box. I thought the disagreement was on whether I would be a WA resident or not hahaha Something was lost in the electrons.

No worries, I gotcha, you're in great shape.

Anyway, this is all academic on my part, I don't even have the verification yet, despite my frantic refreshing of my inbox.

Meanwhile I am sitting here getting exited by an email every 20 minutes or so followed by by disappointment because it is just EWU sending job opportunity emails to every biology major.....

Is anyone else really confused by how we should answer the last question if we went to school out of state?

"If yes, have you had continuous residence in Washington for 5 years or more? (Continuous residence is a person who is maintaining and primarily occupying their primary residence in Washington without interruption other than short-term, temporary absences such as vacations, and has not taken legal actions to establish a domicile elsewhere.)"

Technically my primary residence has been in WA the past four years, but I haven't been primarily occupying it bc I've been away at school. So I'm assuming I should answer "NO", but I haven't taken legal action to establish a domicile anywhere else so I'm not sure. The UW webpage about going to school out of state is outdated and just says you'll need to fill out a residency questionnaire, which we all have to do now.

I believe your situation is similar to mine (I never changed my residence, but was away for military training and a short job). You should answer "NO" as you have not remained in WA for the last 5 years outside of short term vacations/trips.

I had the same question (attended college in CA from 2016-2018), and I will probably be answering "no," as the primarily occupying portion of that sentence would not apply in my case.

You guys will be thrilled to learn that your friend StayWandering finally got her residency verification. I know you were all waiting with baited breath.

IS, verified 6/20
Congrats! Mine also finally rolled in! IS, verified 6/10.

Any other IS people that haven't yet received a secondary? I was verified 7/16.

I think they are just barely starting to trickle out. UW does a pretty thorough screen and I think they may start with
Congrats! Mine also finally rolled in!

Where is mine j/k I am not worried. Just ready to be done with secondaries though and this is my last one.

Just got a mission statement request for MD app - not a secondary
OOS

Same here. Are you going to focus on just stating how you fit one or both of the mission, or are you going to try to relate it back to the school itself more?

hmm I ended up talking about how I fit into the two categories provided and how that has influenced my choice of college activities and career aspirations! Good luck~

For the residence history form, I was only asked about my parents' residency: "If yes, have they had continuous residence in Washington for 10 years or more? (Continuous residence is a person who is maintaining and primarily occupying their primary residence in Washington without interruption other than short-term, temporary absences such as vacations, and has not taken legal actions to establish a domicile elsewhere.)"

I was not asked about my own residency with the question you posted. I was only asked to list the places I had lived/worked since birth. Where did you see that question? I'm IS.

Thanks!

Are you financially dependent or independent on your parents?

That is likely the difference

Ohh got it. Thanks!

For the first question about listing the places where you lived, did you include your Washington city residence up till college and then added the city you went to school in too?

Yes. I included every city I have lived in longer than a month regardless of the circumstances of my living there or my legal state of residence.

Ok so I keep getting a 500 Error Everytime I try to add a new city. Kinda worried, I've tried my phone and desktop and both chrome and Firefox. Is anyone else having issues? Or know of how I can fix this. If they are indeed closed tomorrow I feel a little jipped

OOS. Just received this email.

"Thank you for applying to the University of Washington School of Medicine. We have received your preliminary application from AMCAS, and in the near future your file will undergo a preliminary review. This review will take 2-3 weeks."

"You will be notified as soon as possible if you are selected to submit secondary application materials. All secondary application materials are due in our office by December 1, 2019."

When were you verified? This is the first I've heard of someone receiving that email.

Is there an email confirmation that comes after submitting the residency verification? Or do I just submit and hope that it went through okay? It just says "This page is complete" at the top.

I submitted a couple of hours ago and never received an email confirmation. If it says we're complete, I think we're fine.

Cali resident here. Also received the mission statement request!
