Yes. TBF, the website does say everyone gets the questionnaire...

My guess is maybe there are a couple people who slipped in as OOS by lying (gonna blame Californians...they ruin everything) and now it is just Uber gah.

Still waiting on the secondary after submitting the residency questionnaire last night. I've been strangely calm throughout this entire cycle and pre-writing, but everything related to UW (dream school) is making me neurotic 🙁

Me too. My phone chirped twice in the past 20 min, but one email was spam from a DPM program and the other was an invitation to happy hour with my college sorority’s alumnae group 🙁 unhappy hour is more like it.

Any chance they send these out alphabetically? I got my residency verification request late in the day yesterday, and my last name starts with V.

Maybe. Or time-related, perhaps? My last name starts with L, but I submitted the residency questionnaire later in the evening rather than right away (dad took hours to text me back about whether or not he included me as a dependent on his tax returns lmao).

I emailed them as follows:

Good afternoon,

I am reaching out to you as I am a current applicant for the UWSOM and I believe I should be classified as a Washington state resident without need for the residency confirmation packet. I was born in Spokane, spent my first 18 years of my life in Spokane, lived in Oklahoma for three months, Texas for 6 months, and returned to Washington for another 6 months all as part of my military service. Further, while I spent 6 months in Oregon after my discharge from active duty, I maintained drilling status with an Army reserves unit in Washington state and returned to the state within 12 months to establish domicile back in Spokane and have since been here for the last 4 years with only the last two years being for educational purposes. During my entire military service and the following six months I never sought legal action to change my legal state of residence and maintained Washington state as my legal state of residence. According to the office of the University Registrars webs
ite:

Washington residents, who enter the military/civil service while domiciled in Washington or established a domicile while stationed in Washington for a period of at least one year, will remain residents while being stationed outside of Washington if they:

* Return within one year (12 months) of discharge/end of service with the intent to be domiciled in Washington.
* Maintain all legal ties in Washington.

Thus, I believe I have been misclassified and would like to know if I can be reevaluated as a resident of Washington state. Thank you, and please let me know what else can be done.

I know I know, I am busting out those "Let me speak to your manager" attitudes....but this is ridiculous. Will follow up.

Sorry you’re dealing with this. I think it’s pretty clear you’re a resident, hopefully this works out.

I’m anticipating getting one myself since I completed undergrad and lived a few years OOS before returning to Washington. I got a residency request for WSU and hopefully I can reuse some of the documentation. It was kind of a nightmare to gather everything though.

I really recommend jumping on this while you await their answer, I read somewhere it can take 4-6 weeks (!) to review your documents. ESFCOM told me the same timeline, but I turned around the documentation so fast that they verified me within a week. Just FYI.

Maybe just call the office? Might get a quicker response that way.

I will be jumping on the collection of documentation. My issue is not with providing the documentation, I literally just don't want to have a 2 month delay in my application because they aren't following their own rules...

They explicitly state to only contact them via email not phone:

The UWSOM Admissions office does not determine residence status, and cannot answer specific questions about documentation or decisions. Residency inquiries must be directed to the Residence Classification Office. Please review their website before contacting their office. Their office is very busy and email correspondence is preferred (they do not have an incoming phone line). If there are specific questions after reviewing their website, you may email your questions to [email protected]. Their office also offers drop in appointments on certain days and/or you can schedule 15 minute phone or in person appointments with them online. Please do not ask the Residence Classification Office if this email was sent in error; they do not have access to your UWSOM application materials.

Not to be dismissive of anyones concerns about the timing of all this but I can tell you from experience UW moves more slowly in this process than other schools do. While it does seem like the residency certification is new and confusing, I think it is because they are trying out a new application process (in addition to CASPer, etc.). Plus they are having IS issues with their system. Regardless, I think we are all gonna be ok.

I like your positivity and your Charlie Kelly quote.

I think you are correct, they are just doing new things and this process is going to be a long one anyways.

Secondary received! What am I supposed to be neurotic about now? 🙂

"Applicants with a preference for spending their Foundations Phase in Spokane will be considered as a cohort. They will be interviewed in Spokane on November 18-21, 2019, and on February 3-6, 2020. These interviewees will be compared to other Spokane interviewees (approximately 100) rather than to applicants interviewing in Seattle (approximately 400). Applicants interviewing for the Spokane cohort in November may have a decision made about their application that month, and all Spokane applicants will have a decision after the second Spokane interview week in early February. The majority of applicants who interview in Seattle do not have a final decision until March "

So if I'm reading this right, there is a significantly better shot at matriculation if you apply to the Spokane campus? considering there are sixty spots with 100 interviewees as opposed to Seattle's 100 spots out of 400 interviewees?

Perhaps once you get an interview, but I'd be curious to see any statistics on how many students apply specifically for the Spokane cohort as opposed to the Seattle one.

A bunch of that kind of info was shared on last years UWSOM thread if you're dying to search through it 🙂 even some idea of how many students get pulled off the waitlist for each site.

Also, maybe more people who apply to seattle location end up going to other schools, so they have to interview more for seattle to fill the class. (I dont know if I explained that very well or it makes sense to anyone else).

What type of IS issues?

Ugh, hard choice now. My girlfriend (of two years) is going to get her geology masters at UW. (Pretty likely) and I have a lot of connections to Seattle including a non profit where I have volunteered around three thousand hours over the last few years and would like to continue doing so. However I'd rather be a UWSOM Student, and they would understand the move. Even if its non-ideal.

Is anyone else seeing that their CASPer scores are not yet received on the secondary status tab? My scores were sent to my schools the first week of July.

Yep, same here. Took CASPer in early June and sent it off immediately.

OK, glad it’s not just me. I think this happened with another secondary and the portal updated automatically a day or two after it opened, so I’ll give it until Monday before I get worried.

Curious about your guys' input on this part of the residency questionnaire for financially independents.

Documentation of your physical presence in the state of Washington for the entire 12-month period prior to the first day of the quarter in which you are seeking residency. Note that the housing documentation above is not sufficient to show physical presence; however, different forms of documentation can be combined to cover the 12-month period in question. Acceptable documents include:

• Transcripts indicating you have taken classes in a physical classroom in the state, OR

• Pay stubs or signed employer letter on letterhead showing your employment in the state, OR

• Bank/Credit Card records showing physical transactions that you have made in the state.

The bolded portion is my emphasis. Can someone clarify what they mean by " the quarter in which you are seeking residency"? I don't think it refers to the academic quarter, as I don't see how current pay stubs or even an employer's letter would prove I will be in-state for the upcoming year. WSU had a nearly identical questionnaire, but they were much more clear on the period referring to January 2019 - January 2020.

As annoying as this is, I'm hoping to get all the materials together and drop off the packet in person this Saturday.

On the questionnaire, it asks for the "term that you are now seeking residence classification." Is this Fall 2020 or Summer 2020? The SOM starts at the end of June, does this mean we should put Summer?

lol I had the same question in addition to the one I posted above. some of their wording on this form is so confusing.

Edit:

Also, in regards to the banking documents showing proof of physical presence in the state, are you guys planning to include banking info from July 2018 until now? I want to email them, but I'm hoping to turn it in this weekend and I assume they'll be flooded with questions tomorrow.

Did anyone else struggle to complete the optional TRUST and CUSP program pages? I'm not interested in TRUST (virtually zero rural experience, lots of experience with urban underserved communities) and don't qualify for CUSP. I'm check-marking the "I am no longer interested in applying to the TRUST/CUSP program." box, but it won't let me complete either page. Anyone else having trouble?

I'm having the same problem. I don't want to apply for TRUST or CUSP, but it keeps telling me CUSP is "required and incomplete" even though I checked the box saying I'm not interested. I may email them.

They said they would process the app without CASPer since it’s not required.

Just click through the boxes until you can go to the next section. Its a little buggy. If its all blank text with a few of the upper boxes checked (to go to the next section) AND you select you are no longer interested they will know you arent interested.

Yeah I'm pretty sure UW only accepts like one or two non WWAMI students a year and in all likelihood they probably have some strong ties.

Is that actually true? For their entering class they accepted 55 students that were non WWAMI w/8 MSTP. They might have strong ties though and not sure if it changed for 2019.

Yeah in all likelihood, they probably had significant ties to the state. Either that or they had utterly extraordinary applications. Even with 55 acceptances, it's important to note that they are drawn from a pool of >7600 OOR applicants.

Thanks for sharing! That is actually much much more than anticipated. However, being that only 22 of the 55 matriculated, I would echo the opinion that they are likely stellar applicants. Also, keep in mind, 55 As to 7600 applications is 0.7% acceptance rate

Its what I have heard, especially given the fact that OOR applicants can still have been born in any of the WWAMI states or have close relatives who live there. Both of which would qualify as strong ties. They might have moved off after high school to go to college elsewhere (and of course may also then be stellar applicants like the others mentioned).

No way to know for sure. plus we dont know how many of those acceptances were MSTP and chose to still do a similar program elsewhere. (Although thats not a large pool.)

I have a dilemma with UW's course requirements and am looking for advice! I saw that they have a pretty strict biology requirement (taken from their website):

"courses taught by a department other than basis science (for example, courses taught by the nursing department and listed as NURS rather than BIO on your transcript"

I graduated 2 years ago and majored in BME. Since my schools didn't have an official premed track, I was advised during college that my BME courses would definitely be able to count towards med school requirements and so only took the BME biology classes since some of them were just biology with no engineering involved. I just contacted UW's admissions office and they said that my courses don't count despite AMCAS categorizing them as biology. I already submitted my primary for MD/PhD to them and I'm not sure what to do. Should I just not bother with the secondary (if/when I receive it)? I was pretty excited about their program and bummed at the possibility that I won't even be considered.

Let me know what they say! 🙂

Hey y'all, so I just emailed the admissions office about the TRUST/CUSP pages on the secondary, and here's their response:

"Thank you for letting us know. We have been contacted by a handful of people with the same issue, so it's not just you. We have sent this issue to our IT team and they are working on fixing it."

Anyone know of any downsides to selecting "I am fine with either campus"? For me it is Seattle yields more resources as a student, Spokane yields lower COA and more support network for my family (wife and daughter).Does anyone know if the Spokane Campus has similar match stats as the seattle campus and/or similar research availability?
