MSTP applicant here, I was wondering how many of you have received your secondary and when you submitted your preliminary?

I am OOS, MSTP applicant and did not receive a prelim or secondary in my email. Should I contact the school or wait a few more days?

I think we actually have to sign up for an account and submit the prelim ourselves. I only realized this yesterday.... after reviewing your prelim then they send the MSTP secondary I believe

I never got a prelim invite in my email. did others?

Nah i happened to talk to someone who told me. Never got an email. But yeah gotta go to their website and submit their prelim.

Submitted the MSTP app a week ago and haven’t heard anything about the preliminary form (OOS)

The preliminary app is available on the mstp website, you must complete it before they consider sending you a secondary.

Just got a rejection in the mail from their MSTP program today after submitting my preliminary 7/6 (OOS)

I checked my portal and it says “a status update will be mailed to the address provided on your MSTP application.” Well I guess that’s it for me folks! Good luck to the rest of you!

I wonder why they send rejections via snail mail

Just got the MSTP Secondary this morning.
Is the secondary the same as the secondary questions listed for MD applicants? I wanted to put my diversity essay in the preliminary app but not sure if I should be saving the material for the secondary.. thanks!

Have any non MSTP applicants received a secondary yet? I'm in state and no secondary.

Nope, I’m also in state. It looks like they sent out secondaries on 7/18/2018 from last year’s thread. So it should be any day I’d think.

They send out secondaries later and don’t start interviews till late September, right? Any idea if you can interview in Spokane and attend Seattle or vice versa? (I know you are not Washington, but figured I’d still ask)
How much later? Verified almost 3 weeks ago. No word yet.

According to last year’s Reddit thread they started sending secondaries on 7/20 and interviews 8/20. So we shouldn’t be too far behind.

You've been invited to 2 interviews already! Congrats - where?

For MSTP peeps: I sent in my prelim on 7/10 and received the secondary link on 7/16.

Is the secondary the same as the MD secondary? The preliminary app and MD secondary questions appear to overlap a lot so not sure how much I should be writing in my preliminary. Thanks !

I think I posted the secondary questions earlier in this thread

Has anyone applying for the regular MD program actually received the UW secondary yet?

Please do not repeat what you wrote in your AMCAS Personal Comments (this will already be on file with our office). If you have already covered all of the above topics in your AMCAS application, use this space to let the Admissions Committee know more about who you are in addition to being someone who wants to be a physician

Anyone know if "AMCAS Personal Comments" means just the primary app essay or does that also include activities? They say "Personal Comments" at first, then mention "AMCAS application" as if encompassing the whole app...

I interpreted this to mean the whole application, including activities. So, basically my autobiographical statement addresses only those bullet points that weren't covered anywhere else in my primary or the other secondary prompts.

To submit MSTP secondary, the only additional essays are both optional: "Use this opportunity to provide any autobiographical information which you feel would be helpful for the MSTP office" and "if you are not currently enrolled in coursework (nor planning to be enrolled throughout the application process), please describe your activities in this period"
You also have to reenter the prerequisite coursework and agree to a bunch of things like honor codes etc.

I'm still confused from the discussion later in this thread. For the MSTP secondary do we not get the MD prompts as well? (the 250 word autobiography + 4 mini essays) Do we only have to answer the two essays you posted?

No, we don’t also get the 4 mini essays. Just the essays I posted and they don’t list a word count in the portal. I assume if you wanted to apply to MD too, there’d be a second separate secondary.

So I pre-wrote my UW secondaries back in May, and since I’ve completed 30 secondaries. Now that I’ve passed through the gauntlet of secondary writing, I’m coming back to my UW essays and seeing that I could definitely make some improvements. My autobiographical essay especially. I’m still a little confused. So it asks for an autobiographical statement, which for other schools means a “life events up to this point that led you to medicine.” But UW’s has a limit of 250 words. How have you guys approached this essay? Right now I have a story that demonstrates an underlying reason for pursuing the field and ties it in to some other general events, but I really don’t feel like I’m addressing the prompt with what I have. Any advice?

Since it asks specifically for things not on the primary, mine is a little blurb about what I have done in my life that brings me towards medicine and what I hope to do with the career. Like, basically my entire life outside of my personal life and career goals is on my primary, so throw in a shpeel about those and call it a day? Not sure.

For MSTP folks: How long after submitting the MSTP preliminary app did y'all get a decision made about a secondary?

So, have they not sent out secondaries for regular MD applicants at all?

Not yet.

All WWAMI applicants who meet a minimum GPA/MCAT cutoff should automatically receive a secondary, per admissions staff. I was told these cutoffs are pretty generous (something like 3.0/495 IIRC). I guess we just need to keep being patient.

That's so weird, from previous years, people have a booked II by now...

You're looking at the MSTP invites. UW is always one of the last schools to send out secondaries (late July), and II's always go out mid-late August.

What did yall do about the detail for the research experience? I updated my current research a bit from my primary so I talked about that but for my past research experience I have nothing to update from my primary.. may call them tomorrow and see what exactly they want there

I would just keep in mind that they explicitly say that they review the prelim with your primary, so I wouldn’t duplicate. Great to include updates. I didn’t have big updates so I rephrased my brief description of my research and included my role and involvement. I wouldn’t overthink it tbh.
