What does pre match mean
“Prematch” refers to receiving an acceptance offer before the match. Schools can offer acceptances to applicants between 10/15 and 12/31 while the match is in February. I’d recommend reading up on the matching process on the TMDSAS website or by reading one of Wysdocs write up. If you’re not IS then this is all irrelevant more or less.

Soooo did anyone who interviewed in October prematch? Or just september/august?

Asking cause I saw A&M had a few people match after interviewing 10/10

I tried to PM you but couldn't. Did you hear anything about acceptance or rejection? I'm OOS too, and I haven't heard anything since interviewing in Sept.
Texas schools tend not to send out rejections but just let your application ride till next spring. There may be a few that send out rejections about then. For now, no news means you're still in the running! And TX schools are limited to 10% OOS.

If this is your #1 school, don't fret because there are still lots of students here that didn't prematch. There are even a few who are here that didn't prematch AND didn't rank UTMB #1 and still ultimately matched here, lol. Part of the deal I think is that people rely heavily on US News ranking when they decide where to ultimately rank their schools. The problem behind that is that A) a higher ranking doesn't mean a better fit and B) US News doesn't take into account the research $$ we get for Galveston national labs, which would change our score via their algorithm and bump us up in the rankings (but again, rankings don't equal good fit). All of this, however, is good for those who want to attend UTMB but don't prematch because quite a few of the prematch applicants pick a "higher" ranked school which ultimately leaves lots of slots open.

On the TDCJ hospital security clearance packet, there is a space that requires the employee number, so I'm not sure what to put there? or do I leave it blank?

IIRC, that won't even be due until next year but you will put your ID # on there. If you have one, it will start with a P and will be in the MyStar portal (look for it under your upload immunizations area)

So we don’t have to fill out and send the criminal justice clearance application yet correct? Cuz it says to turn it in within 2 weeks of receiving the offer...

Yeah, I also was confused. I just turned it in anyway... and I emailed them a question about it and they didn’t say we didn’t need to do it. So I’d just do it to be safe?

To any current students or people who might know: I just got my account set up and theres a link to scholarship applications due October 30th. Is this something that we are allowed to apply for before matriculation??

Hello! I'm sorry I'm new to this so I'm just replying to this with my own problem that I need help in. I'm currently in community college and I have taken quite a few classes and wish to take most of the major classes like physics 1, bio 1 & 2, calc and general chemistry 1 & 2 this upcoming year, Spring 2020. I am thinking if applying to med school in July of 2020 is a good idea for me or not. I have a 4.0 gpa in science classes and a cumulative gpa of 3.85. I plan on taking my MCAT in January/March of 2020. I am very hopeful that I will do good because I'm very strong in my sciences and math. I have a lot of volunteering hours, clinical and non clinical and paid (3000+ all together). I am also starting to scribe and I have 60 hours of experience, shadowing 4 specialities. And I am starting research next semester, as well. How strong of a candidate would I be for med school? Would med schools consider taking me or not at all? Do you think it's better that I wait till 2021, after completing my bachelors then apply or would it be worth it to try? Please help! I'd love all the feedback I could get. Thank you!

Hey, you sound like you have been building a strong application so congrats! However, I would not recommend taking the MCAT prior to taking Gen chem, physics, and bio. If u take practice exams and do well, then okay you may be ready, but typically it is vital you take these classes before the MCAT to give yourself the best opportunity to score as high as possible.

If you haven’t already, you may want to post this in the WAMC forum. Ad Coms members look at that forum and could give you general advice from their experience about your chances over there.

Thank you so much for this! I will definitely go post there!

Hello, aw thank you so much!! I agree with the MCAT part but do you think if I went along with this plan and did good on the MCAT, would medical schools conisder me or completely not look at my application because I don’t have the physics 2 and org chem etc and biochem?

You will likely struggle quite a bit more with the mcat if you haven’t taken organic chemistry, biochemistry, or physics. Though I bet it’s not impossible. Those are all classes that must be completed before you matriculate. You are welcome to take them after you’re accepted or while you’re applying but they must be complete by matriculation. I’m not sure how adcoms would perceive the lack of those classes.

Also this isn’t really the right place for this. Try the main premed forum.

Thank you so much!
Unsure if I misread this but I would highly recommend taking some sciences and eventually getting your degree from a 4 year institution to increase your chances of acceptance.

Has anyone gotten an acceptance since the initial wave on October 15th? Thanks!
It's harder than usual for me to predict this year because this is the first year there have been October pre-matches, but I think in about 2 weeks there will be another batch of acceptance offers here and at other Texas schools.

And then there is UTSW, randomly sending them out..

So I’m guessing they do prematch offers once per month? Cause I noticed that they gave out some during mid December too last year

i was surprised that they just finished interviewing this month.
The latest interview date I saw for this round of (UTSW) offers was October 12, so they must have just had a committee meeting. Other interviewees, don't give up on anything yet 🙂
