Hey guys, I applied for EDP 7/31 and then I got an invite for the secondary application on 8/1 which I submitted 8/4. I know its been only a few days but do any of you have a clue about the timeline for when I'll get a response? I'm just worried because it seems that the dates are rather limiting. If the dates for interviews are really that limited then I should get a response rather quickly right?

Thanks all

They say that they have interview slots in September, so I think you're fine? Idk though, submitting July 31st for an August 1st deadline is kind of late. I'm not entirely sure how the timeline works for EDP though. Best of luck! 🙂

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think that the primary and the secondary application needed to be submitted by 8/1 for EDP. I had called the admissions office about this and that's what they had told me, but they also sounded uncertain about it.

I genuinely thought this was the case too, tbh. Most, if not all, EDP people seem to have gotten their interview invites on August 2nd.

Hey guys, I’m an EDP applicant and I still haven’t heard back for an interview. I’m getting kinda nervous so I’m wondering if there are others in the same boat!

Secondary received 7/3

-If you could tell the admissions committee one thing unique about yourself that isn’t medically related, what would it be? (1000 Characters)

-Explain an activity that you have been involved in with for at least 6-12 months. What was it about that activity that kept you motivated to continue? What did you learn from that activity? (1000 Characters)

-Give an example of a project to which you gave sustained effort. How were you involved in the leadership of this project? (1000 Characters)

@PapaGuava

Good luck to everyone applying!

For the first prompt about uniqueness: I was thinking about writing about my fascination with true crime, tying it back to my final assignment of undergrad where I did gave a presentation on the neuroscience of serial killers. Thoughts?

I would be really, really careful around topics that can hit someone the wrong way. One of my best friend's is applying to Wayne State and wrote about his work in hospice and how, a year ago, getting his grandmother into hospice was a terrifying, painful, but correct move. It made him super interested in end-of-life care and if you talk to him, it's inspirational. Like, if I'm terminally ill, I want this guy to be my doctor, 100%, and even if I'm not he would be a great doctor. But in 1000 characters, it was hard for him not to sound like he was more interested in making patients die well than keeping them alive, so I got him to write something else. If you can get a stranger to read it and they don't think "yikes, scary person here," then, sure. It can be really cool and if it hits the right reader, then they will love you. But morbid topics are morbid, and that means they can be double-edged swords. I'm not saying don't write it, I'm just saying be conscious of the most uncharitable interpretation of what characteristics that essay implies.

I completed my secondary on July 18th, but my last LOR was submitted on July 30th.
I believe they dont even look at your apps until you submit all your LORs. So you'll probably hear back much later than the other EDP applicants. Honestly looks like we have a ton of EDP applicants this year.

All this EDP talk while I'm sitting here waiting for more regular MD interviews 🙁

How long did it take you all to become complete after submitting?

So many IIs. Anyone submit between mid-July and get an interview haha

Aw man, I submitted 07/23 with similar stats and got nothing yet :/ Congrats to everyone tho!!

Hi, just a question, were all of the interview invites that were sent out for EDP applicants? I called the office and they said they haven't sent out any II for RD and won't be doing so until all the EDP stuff is taken care of. I'm curious because I was complete on 7/17. Thanks!

I dunno man. You got anything else?
I also volunteered at a zoo for four years; I could say that lead to my leadership position in an animal welfare group on campus. However, I was going to use my animal welfare group for the 3rd prompt on the sustained project.

I have also been involved in several multicultural productions on campus (mainly dancing but also emcee and food committee). I don't know how unique that is per se but since there really isn't a diversity prompt for Wayne State, this could lend itself to that.

I would go with the second option of the multicultural stuff. Of course, you should go with what you ultimately feel more comfortable writing about (and later talking about if interviewed). You'll be fine, any of these two will be fine points. Good luck 🙂

II today! EDP, LizzyM 71, submitted 7/30. I had a question though. Does anyone know what they look at pre-interview? do they look at secondaries, LORS? or just GPA, MCAT, and activities listed on primaries.
