Same I have the accepted but waiting for seat. I love AT Still so I’m putting a deposit down as soon as they for one ☝🏽
I think it depends heavily on your CHC preference (or lack thereof). If you want to go to a highly sought after CHC site, then I would 100% make the other deposit.I have a question related to this! I have been "accepted pending a seat." Should I be worried at all at the possibility of not getting a seat? I've been accepted at another school that would require a deposit on Dec 14th, and while I'd prefer SOMA, I'm debating paying it just to be safe. You think I should pay the other deposit to be safe or just trust a seat will open? THANK YOU!!!
What do you think the likelihood of getting off WL at SOMA this cycle?
Do you know which ones are highly sought after?I think it depends heavily on your CHC preference (or lack thereof). If you want to go to a highly sought after CHC site, then I would 100% make the other deposit.
Thank you so much for responding! I think I will just wait then and hold off on paying another deposit, knowing that in previous years everyone on this "accepted pending a seat" list got in.I wouldn’t worry about this too much. Dr. Pong addressed this during the interview today and my wife has been telling me throughout the cycle not to worry about it. You will get a seat; the issue is that you can’t predict WHEN a seat will open. If you feel comfortable with walking away from a deposit if you pay it at the other school, just to have that security, I’d pay it.
Thank you for sharing the information you have learned from your wife with us. I was wondering if she has exlained to you how the waitlist works. Is it a ranked system and typically what percentage of students get off of the waitlist each year?My wife is faculty at SOMA and on the admissions committee. She’s mentioned two students this cycle who have been accepted without the MCAT. There may be more but she’s only mentioned two...
I appreciate that and I look forward to your responseI’ve never asked her how the alternate list works, though based on what I’ve heard in her discussions with the admissions committee, I think that there is a ranking system of sorts. 🤔 I’ll ask and see if she’d be willing to share. As you might imagine, some things she can share and other things she can’t since I’m an applicant as well.
But... your username... lolJust got the email about what size white coat I need... *cries* - it's happening!!
Live near COMP and have shadowed a neonatal specialist who graduated from there. IMO I feel like COMP leans away from the DO philosophy as compared to AT still would in regards to OMM practice and primary care specialties. Friends that go to COMP seem to do OMM just to get a passing grade and that’s it.Any advice/input on SOMA vs Western COMP, as far as which is a more credible program that produces well prepared students? Any input on curriculum structure/rotations is appreciated. I am not particularly interested in primary care, but would choose a CHC in a downtown/urban area.
BUT I would say they both have great reps and will prepare their students to become great doctors. It just depends on what you prefer (location, cirriculum, cost of living, distance from support system). At the end of the day, you will still be a physician.Any advice/input on SOMA vs Western COMP, as far as which is a more credible program that produces well prepared students? To clarify, you're submitting a deposit for a different school, right?if there's a current student who's free to talk id really appreciate your feedback! I have to submit a deposit by dec 14th but was just notified of selection yesterday at 8pm haha so im a bit overwhelmed (with happiness and questions).
Well AT SOMA said theyd try to call me on Dec 14th so I can submit a deposit to AT SOMA. If this situation arises, I need to know which school to choose (AT SOMA or another school). And if they dont get back to me in time then I'd make the deposit at the other school but still need to eventually make the decision of where to go.To clarify, you're submitting a deposit for a different school, right?
Does “still being considered” and “An acceptance may be possible should openings arise...” constitute being “wait-listed”?There is not a way to say with 100% certainty but in pervious years, particularly last year, SOMA reached deep into its alternate pool to help fill seats. My wife was still interviewing applicants into the second week of June last cycle and this one is shaping up to look very similar. If you have any updates to your classwork, volunteer/clinical experienced, MCAT, be sure to update your AACOMAS and let SOMA admissions know. And be patient; my wife shared with me that they were taking people off the alternate list well into the late spring last cycle.
Tomorrow is the deadline for the accepted people to pay their deposits so there will be a ton of spots opening upAnyone get off the "waiting for a seat to open" list yet?
Just withdrew my offerAny withdrawals Lol
You mentioned that a downfall is less emphasis on research and extracurriculars. If your CHC is in another state can you connect with a different Local institution to do research?I preferred SOMA because I'm able to come back home for my last 3 years, and we get to start our clerkships earlier. In theory, starting earlier will help us excel in rotations/residency. My CHC is also located near major medical/academic centers which I plan to do audition rotations at.

I'm assuming the deposit deadline for people accepted before November 15 is today at 11:59pm, so they're probably gonna begin making acceptance calls tomorrow. At least that's what I'm telling myself to cope with the uncertainty lol. I'm hoping they start making calls sooner rather than later.Did anyone who received the notice of selection get an official acceptance call today for a seat?
Sigh I have another deposit due today and I was hoping I wouldn’t have to pay both.I'm assuming the deposit deadline for people accepted before November 15 is today at 11:59pm, so they're probably gonna begin making acceptance calls tomorrow. YesDid anyone who received the notice of selection get an official acceptance call today for a seat?
Thank you for reaching out! How did you like 1st year there? Any insight you could give us?Current SOMA student here. Figured I would pop in and answer a few questions about the school if anyone has any.
SAME! I basically declined 3 other schools for ATSU. Hopefully, we'll get a call soon 😥Still waiting on an official acceptance notification from pending seat opening...lol why am I getting anxious and worried even though it’s only been a day after the 14th?
I really enjoyed my first year there, It goes by quickly. I can't say I have any study or school related advice in general, but remember to take some breaks and explore AZ if you're not from there. Most of us aren't from there and move away again to our CHC's.Thank you for reaching out! How did you like 1st year there? Any insight you could give us?
Were the other schools tuitions also around 60k?SAME! I basically declined 3 other schools for ATSU. Hopefully, we'll get a call soon 😥
They were chsu, kcu-joplin, and nova. I think chsu is around the same, lower for kcu, and much higher for nova! Were the other schools tuitions also around 60k?
