Does BU do holds or just straight rejects? Wondering if I should update them on my activities (new job that is more social justice oriented than what I wrote about on my secondary) now that people who submitted around the same time as me are getting Rs.

I'll be honest. I am currently working in health disparities research (especially related to race and SES) at an Ivy med school, and spent last year in sub-saharan africa doing global health research, and worked with undocumented immigrants in undergrad. Still got an R today. (Not saying I deserved a II, it's again a crap shoot and I know my weaknesses) I don't think there's one reason why people are getting Rs vs. II, so don't try to guess and play the game - relax a little bit and trust your story. Mission and stats go hand in hand, but it's also a crapshoot. On. To. The. Next. One.

Literally just depends on which person gets your file on which day of the week and whether their lunch tasted good or not

To make any high stats with good ECs and well-built applications feel a little better, I did hear about yield-protect from an admissions company. For the past ten years, their most successful students (like the ones that got into Harvard, Hopkins) usually got rejected from BU and the agency considers it actually a good sign because it's been like a stamp of approval of good applicants from the agency's undrestanding. Although this trend may not hold true for many students, if you fall into this category of 'superstars' then your BU rejection probably is a good thing.

Seems like a nice excuse to keep their clientele happy lol. Wouldn't put much stock into this given how mercurial this process is across (and even within!!!!) schools.

Interviewed; felt pretty chill but a lot of things I thought I would be talking about (especially research) just...never came up? Was also quite short, only about 45 minutes. Anyone who's interviewed already feel this vibe?

Mine was definitely very conversational and relaxed. My interviewer had a lot of open ended questions and kind of let me guide where the conversation went. I did talk about my research a bit in the context of what I want my career to look like, but it was pretty brief. It was just under an hour.

Ah okay, thanks! Yeah, mine was pretty conversational as well. Good luck with your cycle!

Dear ___

It has been a few weeks since we sent you a notice indicating that your application was complete and had been referred to our Committee on Admissions for review. While our Committee is accustomed to reviewing a very large volume of applications, this year we have seen an unprecedented number of applications that have been completed early in the cycle. It appears that we will be able to interview only about 10% of our applicants this year, so these reviews are quite challenging. As a result, we are behind.

I regret the fact that we have not been able to take action on your application as yet, but I want to assure you that we are moving as quickly as we can and that there will be no penalty for the delay in our processing. Applicants who are selected for interview will be contacted via email. All interviews this year will be held virtually.

Please accept our apology for any inconvenience caused by our extended review of your file. We expect to complete our evaluation quite soon, and wish you success with all your applications.

I don't know really know what to think of this. Does this mean that they have reviewed my application and will take a second look at a later time, or that they haven't gotten to it yet?

What does it mean if we didn't get this email lol

To all those that have received Rs
First of all I'm sorry it's probably their loss - I wish you all the best!
Second of all, do you mind please sharing your complete date?

Looks like they’re still going through July secondaries, super nervous for once they get to August!

Looks like it’s a massacre today. I also got an R just now (but I also kinda expected it) (GPA: 3.87, MCAT: 513), submitted on 7/28

Waiting for this R to come is waaaaaay worse than waiting for an II. Just know it’s coming for my 7/22 complete ass

If they don’t send you an R, is that an automatic II? Aka is it either you get picked for an II or an R?

In the past people who didn't get the email got IIs and also got Rs (just scroll back in the thread) so it doesn't really predict anything

Got the delay e-mail. I submitted 8/1 so as others have suggested it seems that they're finishing up July now.

Received the delay email this morning. Complete 8/3

It's not much, but I appreciated the update (whereas other schools have left me in complete silence while I wait lol)

Does this school ever accept any low stat applicants with strong connections? Feeling hopeless seeing all these rejections of very high stat applicanrs

I think a lot of applicants are getting rejected, but a lot of applicants also got IIs! I think the big wave of rejections is just because BU gets a ton of apps and they need to reduce their applicant pool based on their mission. Don't let this recent wave of rejections discourage you if you really wanna go to BU!

all the Rs honestly make me respect BU even more and makes me feel like they value us and our time to at least let everyone know

with that being said once again lmfao just for ~science~ purposes, did anyone today who got an R get a delay email? I’m trying to figure out if they actually mean anything

Agree. Daughter got II to st .louis even with >90 percentile MCAT.

Just got a 'delay' email. Submitted 8/5. Do they mean anything?
