2020-2021 Geisinger Commonwealth

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm in the same position as you, I got an invitation in October for an interview in less than 2 weeks. I just checked my portal and still don't see the agreement. Maybe they'll update it after they email us the zoom info for the interview. Not sure though and I'm gonna email them if it isn't updated soon so I'd do the same if I was you. Good luck on ur interview btw!
I just received the Zoom link this morning and the only thing that says is "Prior to your interview day, please login to your application portal and review and submit the confidentiality agreement."

I will email them now! Thank you & likewise, future colleague 🙂

Any chance geisinger will send out any more IIs? Online it says they conclude in February, wondering if I should take this as a silent R. IS applicant, submitted 8/2.

personally, I received II in early Oct and my only available options were late Jan- early feb. So I feel like they are pretty much done with IIs :/

No problem and please let me know what they say

People who interviewed in early to mid November, we expecting to hear back this week or next week?

Can anyone comment on the stress level of the interviews or interview day in general?

I did not find interview day particularly stressful. The student I interviewed with was extremely warm and attentive to my responses. The faculty member also have me some nice positive feedback on my secondaries so I know she actually read them and cared about what I discussed. Overall I felt very welcome and left with good feelings about the school. It was a bit long though. Also, many people said they did now know who was interviewing them in advance , but i was able to see the names of my interviewers in the portal which they didn’t actually end up using for the interviews themselves. So I was able to look up their credentials beforehand and come up with some common interests. Good luck!

Did anyone interview 11/9 and not hear back yet? I'm curious if the early-mid November post-interview feedback comes in one big wave.

Also interviewed 11/18! Definitely hoping for some good news this week if not next week 🤞
I also interviewed 11/18 and am really hoping for something this week. I checked last year's thread and students didn't hear back until Jan. 27th 😳 I am hoping that since everything is remote, we may hear sooner? #alwayshopeful

I had a friend who was in the Geisinger MBS program last year and she told me that Geisinger places a large preference on MBS students. Is this true?

Hello! I'm interviewing here in two weeks, and I'm wondering if someone can share their interview experience? Thank you 🙂!

I had a friend who was in the Geisinger MBS program last year and she told me that Geisinger places a large preference on MBS students. Is this true?
It's tricky because if you meet certain metrics after graduating the MBS program you're guaranteed an interview (good academic standing and above a 502 MCAT) but I wouldn't necessarily say they favor all MBS grads. My friend and I completed their MBS program in Doylestown back in May of 2019 and he graduated the program with a 4.0gpa and a 510 MCAT and was waitlisted. For all I know he could have just bombed his interview but knowing him personally I highly doubt this is the case.

If anything I'm assuming that they favor PA residents the most because they want people who will practice within their region (which makes sense). I graduated the program with a 3.78gpa and retook the MCAT and scored a 514, but something specific that was brought up during my interview was "why Geisinger when you're from California?" Whether I'm accepted, wailisted, or rejected I'm sure they'll have good reasoning, but based on my personal hunch I believe more than anything they favor PA residents, specifically north eastern PA residents. But again it's just my opinion/hunch so take it with a grain of salt!

Makes sense! I am not from PA either and was asked the same question. Lets hope that doesn't rule us out lol.

Thank you for the information.

I interviewed on 11/9. I hope they get back to us this week, but I'm not counting on it.
Based on last year's threads, it doesn't look like they will get back to us before the end of the month. I think we still have 2 weeks to go before we hear anything.

What does the "hold/defer" email say?
Dear probablyrejected2020,

I am writing to update you on the status of your application to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. The Admissions Committee has reviewed your materials and elected to defer an interview decision until a later date. Your application will remain under review, and when the Committee makes its final decision you will be notified; until then, you will not receive further communication regarding your application status.

I know how difficult it can be to wait for a decision, however I cannot offer you an exact time frame on when you might receive a final decision.

If you have any questions, or if you no longer wish to keep your application active, please contact the Admissions Office: [email protected].

Sincerely,

Kristen Greene, MS
Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management, MD Program

Last year, in February, they told me they were "pleased to inform me of being on the interview waitlist." Also the email made it sound like as long as someone withdraws their interview the people on the waitlist will automatically get the interview.

I'm assuming something like that might happen again this year? The fact that they used the wording, "pleased to inform," made me think that they wanted to interview me but just didn't have anymore openings to do so.

Also I was complete in July and still have not heard back from them

Those who are saying they got R and deferred notices today, are those post-II or pre-II?

They should all be pre-II. 90% sure they'll do post-II decisions two weeks from now as they meet twice a month

I see. I had been looking in past months of this thread and in October, November, and December the post-II decisions seemed to be coming in right around this time of the month so I assumed this week might be it.

That's what I was thinking too! I have a feeling post-II decisions will come out today or tomorrow. But that's a hunch lol

I was invited to interview back in October, but the earliest date available was March 1st.
Any interview experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Also, were you able to see beforehand if the interview was closed or open file?
So far this is my only interview so I'd really like to nail it! 😅

Still? Because I too haven't heard back.
Not gonna lie, I think it's a bit annoying that we're given a timeframe of 6-8 weeks yet we're at the 10 week mark. Of course delays can happen, but I suppose it's just the broader acceptance that we as applicants/candidates are expected to be professional at all times, yet schools can really just operate on their own timeline and schedule.

keep in mind they probably took a 2 week holiday break
