2020-2021 Medical College of Wisconsin

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
II today! OOS

URM AA, 500 MCAT, 3.16 overall gpa w/ strong upward trend, participated in a pre med pipeline program called StEP-UP @ MCW aimed to increase diversity of healthcare in Wisconsin, over 10,000 clinical hours as an X-ray tech cause I got an associate degree in radiology before I got my bachelors from UW-Parkside, strong letters from MCW faculty and physicians, passion for urban communities in PS and secondaries.

Let’s get this bread.
MY FIRST MEDICAL SCHOOL ACCEPTANCE!!!!!! AT 3:49 AM!!!!!!! IM GONNA BE A DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!

ACCEPTED!!
OOS.
Re, Re-Applicant.
Took the MCAT 5x with Sub-Par Score.
At the borderline of whether or not a third time was worth it and here we are.
13 years I’ve been on this journey. An inconceivable dream that started at 15 years old.
I still can’t believe it. I’m going to be a doctor.

EDIT: YOOO the amount of support and love I have received from all of you is unrivaled. I cant thank yall enough for the wishes as well as congratulate all of my future classmates who have been admitted or waitlisted. Those of you WL, I know what it is like to be there. I ended up in 2 last year in March and although I did not get in just know it is still possible and everything happens for a reason. Savor the moment, the thrill, and GROWTH that will come to you whether you get off the WL or not. This process is fcking emotional and grueling but trust me when I say that it makes it that much more worth it when it all comes in to fruition. This applies to all of y'all still waiting or wherever you are in the journey. 2 months ago, following the release of my most recent MCAT score, I put it all out there to many of you going through this cause we in this battle together. If you ever feel the weight of this all, my DM's always free. Congrats to all of us accepted, and those waiting, keep fighting. NEVER FOLD!

WL. Seeing as they don't seem to reject anyone immediately post-interview (at least as far as I can tell), and since there were 0 people taken off the WL 2 years ago and almost none taken off last year (per admissions "a very small number"), I guess this is a soft R.

I really can't believe it. This was my big chance and I screwed it up. I can't even process the idea of having to reapply a third time...

I was also waitlisted. How do you know no one was taken of the waitlist for the past two years? MSAR Advisor reports indicate that there are usually 50 people accepted of the WL with 25-50 waitlisted at both of the smaller campuses and 100-200 at the main campus.

@SmellGud sorry to hear that fam

That's what I was able to parse by going through old SDN threads. I'm pretty confident in the 2 years ago one, the 1 year ago one is more of an inference based on what is in the thread

I was curious about what you said, so I decided to research it on my own. I am also very confident that essentially no one was accepted off the waitlist for the 2018-2019 application cycle. This was confirmed by multiple people on both the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 year indicating that MCW offered too man As (specifically 3) and that they wouldn't be able to offer any seats off the WL. However, 2019-2020 interviewers were told that such an occurence was a "fluke" and would not happen again. Admissions said they were taking steps to make sure of that.

For the 2019-2020, I found dozens of SDN users that reported getting the WL without ever reporting an A. However, one user got of the CW campus WL on 4/11/20 and another got off the Milwaukee WL on 6/13/20, which was obviously due to another student deferring/withdrawing. Additionally, admissions sent out an email that said that they offered a "small" number of WL applicants.

Overall, it seems that WL have seen some movement, but SDN does not show a lot.

I also found this tweet from MCW that says that SDN is incomplete and that you should trust them! (This seemst to have been tweeted shortly after the 18-19 thread was stating that there was no WL movement.)

Wow! Congrats to everyone getting their A's today! It looks like they have a pretty quick turnaround time from the interview. I interview on 12/11 - probably means I'll have to wait until the new year to hear back from my decision!

2018-2019 WL veteran, happy to talk about my experience in PM

Edit: getting a decent amount of PMs so will just comment here:

I believe the absence of 2018-2019 WL movement was a fluke and a function of the unique circumstances of the 2018-2019 application cycle (this was the first year schools had to adjust to the AAMC no longer enforcing a school selection deadline; instead, the AAMC issued the Plan to Enroll/Commit to Enroll "guidance"). I'd be shocked if MCW has no WL movement this year as all schools have since adjusted from lessons learned during 2018-2019. Can't comment on 2019-2020 cycle as I didn't apply then.

MCW is a school at the forefront of med school admissions and one that I genuinely believe cares about the well-being of all its applicants (see: detailed admission cycle update emails this year). I was able to receive some general application improvement guidance from MCW at the conclusion of the 2018-2019 cycle and their advice has already delivered great results.

To all those WL today, my heart goes out to you. Speaking from experience, I know how devastating that can feel now but remember, a WL is not a rejection so keep your heads up! PMs are always open if anyone needs to vent or someone to listen.

It definitely seems like they have a holistic application review process. I also have a bit of checkered past with a low uGPA and was rejected when I first applied 5 years ago, then I took some time off to re-evaluate and pursue another career. I realized I still need to be in medicine, so I gave it another go this time around and was accepted!

I'm on round four. Just keep cruising.

People accepted - when on Friday was your portal updated or did you receive the email? And what campus? Trying to calm some nerves lol idk if the news will be good or bad - they just said decisions would be out Friday
The portal update and email occurred at the same time basically, it was around 5:30PM. This was at the Milwaukee campus.

I sort of wish they were still giving rolling rejections! Do you think there is any chance left for end-of-August applications?

I think as long as you haven’t gotten an R you should still be hopeful! No news means you’re still under consideration. Hoping you get the A soon!

Love the schools mission but ultimately more eager to interview (and hopefully attend) based on all of the incredible, resilient stories shared on this thread. Congrats to all!

Right there with you! 5x MCAT as well. This was my third cycle but we stayed persistent and finally accomplished our dream!

Probably a stupid question, but how do you know if you can submit a VITA interview? Will there be something on the portal, will it be an email from AAMC, will it be on your AAMC website, or will it be an email from the school itself? I have yet to be prompted for a VITA at any school, and I was just wondering if I'm doing something wrong

If you haven't gotten an email from VITA, then you haven't been invited to interview at a school that does VITA. There's nothing that you need to do.

Also, MCW doesn't participate in VITA.

The hero we need but don't deserve.

people asking about dates:

Secondary complete: oct. 22
II: oct. 30
Interview: nov. 13 Friday the 13th lol
A: nov. 20 lol 11/20/2020

There’s hope for even those of us who are “late” ! What a way to knock things out in a month. Still waiting on some other programs, though, so good luck to us all !

Anyone know if they are still giving interview invitations?
Yes, and they will continue to accept MCATs and secondaries until January so II will go out even later than that.

It's hard to say. In previous cycles, they've sent pre-II Rs, but they haven't sent any (from what I have seen) this cycle. That leads me to believe that most people who don't have an II yet will get all rejected in a giant wave.
Well this is my top choice that is still in the running, so that will hurt

I definitely don't want to tell you that it's hopeless, but I don't want to provide false hope. To be honest, nobody knows for sure. I personally heard back a couple of months after being complete. Then I got the WL. 🙁

Send an update if you have one!

Accepted 11/20, interviewed 11/13. MCAT 509. IS. Gpa 3.5 w/ upward trend. About 2000 scribe hours, 2000 CNA, 1000 research hours. Any future classmates want to be friends ? 🙂 first gen, never thought I would make it.
Ride on my friend. I’m considering it. Been accepted since October. Any scholarship info yet?
