2020-2021 Oakland (Beaumont)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I read that they review the interviewees on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesdays of the month, but does anyone know if there are specific days of the week that they send out admissions decisions?

Oh wow this is super interesting - I didn't know that they had these set review dates. I wonder for people who interviewed on 11/13 when they would be hearing back!

Historically it’s been thurs and fri, but they’ve been weird sending it Mon/Tues as well this year. It seems to mostly be as stated, after the first, third, and fifth Wed.

Just got a post-II R. I interviewed last year and got waitlisted. Thought I did even better this year but didn't even get waitlisted this time, just rejected.
Sorry to hear this, best of luck to you. As someone who inteviewed here recently im wondering if you feel there were any improvements you could have made or anything that you felt weird about from your interviewers? Any insights you gleaned about what your interviewers wanted to hear from you?

Hi everyone! II today, Complete 8/29, Interview scheduled for Jan 7th. It's on my birthday! I just got dragged through the mud by a dog I walked and dropped my phone on the ground. I had to hunt where I dropped my phone. When I picked it back up, it had a II. Maybe I need to get trashed on more often?

congratulations!! When did the II come in?

edit: when as in what time-ish

I hope this means Oakland will start sending IIs to post august apps 😳

I honestly have no idea what went wrong. I thought my interviews were phenomenal; one even told me I had a good heart and my app was inspirational. I know some schools allow you to make an appointment after you're rejected to give you feedback/advice, so I am going to try and do that (though I'm not sure if OUWB does this).

Do you guys think that people from the 11/05 II date will hear back this week? or are they still evaluating the October crowd?

Aren't decision dates on Thursdays week 1, week 3, week 5

IF so, I think you would hear this upcoming Thursday

What are the qualifications for merit scholarships here? Are they need based on income or is it an application process? I’m interviewing here so I’m happy to see people receiving aid

Congrats on your interview! There are both need and merit based. To qualify for need based, you have to submit your parent’s tax info on FAFSA. It sounds like every accepted student is looked at for merit based. These are given for grades, scores, healthcare experience, commitment to medicine, fit with mission, etc.

I should add that there is no application process for merit based scholarships, accepted students are automatically considered

Last week someone I put down as a contact on AAMC was called (they are pretty sure by Oakland) and asked about me. Has anyone had this happen? I was waitlisted a month or so ago.

Sure! Dean Kallenberger called last Tuesday and gave the offer. I ended up getting a half merit (very gratefully so). Hopefully you’ll be getting a similar call soon!
Wow, congratulations! That’s incredible. When were you accepted if you don’t mind me asking?

Hello All,
I'm new to this thread. I tried to read through it to see if any of these questions were answered, so I apologize if I missed the post! I completed my application early august and have heard nothing- not even webinar/info session update emails. This seems to be consistent with a few others. It also seems like there has been a lot of As and recent pre II R's. Has anyone noticed any patterns from when OUWB sends pre II R's/R's/II.

Thanks! and congrats to all the accepted applicants.

The process is totally messed up across the board. It is really a roll of the dice

Yes, a past one.
Was it an employer in any way affiliated with OUWB? Also, do you know if they were just confirming that you worked there, or were they asking questions about you?
