2020-2021 Rochester

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do you mind sharing when you interviewed/ when you got accepted? Just tryna see when I should expect an email too.

Thanks!
I think I interviewed on 09/28 and I got accepted exactly 6 weeks later, too lazy to do the math. I just remember it was exactly 6 weeks.

Edit: Just changed the dates, I thought I was on a different school's forum, my bad. Posted the dates for another school.

hello, anyone have any last minute advice for interview day?

The greatest advice I ever received was from a friend while they were drunk. They told me, "I don't get nervous because it's not like I'm going to die!" I think about this sometimes...life goes on, you won't die from this experience, so just put a smile on and do your best and I'm sure it'll work out

what are the next steps after the interview? do i just sit back and wait? really really really loved the interview experience here, but kind of confused bc no post-interview email about the next steps/esp financial aid info...

They were averaging 6-7 weeks for decisions. Not sure if that has changed after like the holidays etc.

Any current students have any advice for what to do if you are on the MSTP waitlist?

This is the 4th school that has emailed me stating that my "application is still under review". Is this a good thing?

I got the under review email back in Oct. I was complete first couple days of September. Silence otherwise. No email today.

Can anyone with an II/has already interviewed confirm how long before the interview we need to submit the essays regarding our activities and etc.?

The email said "no later than 3 days in advance of your scheduled interview"- I'll probably do mine about 1 week before just to be safe and because I have some time.

What does the waitlist movement look like?
No idea in general, but I got accepted to my state school recently, so I will be dropping my Rochester A soon. Rochester seems great, but it's 2x more expensive than my state school. So that's at least one spot on the WL that will move up.

what exactly do they ask for?

Did anyone here accepted 12/18 get the certiphi email or nah?

I interviewed 11/18, so 8 weeks would have been 2 days ago, but I haven't heard anything yet. Been very anxiously checking my emails the past couple weeks, as I really loved the school. Saw that several people who interviewed after me already heard back weeks ago, which seems very strange. I'll be sending an email to admissions tomorrow, but wondering if anyone else is in the same boat?

I got an II recently! I'm from California though and am concerned about how north the school is. Can someone tell me a bit more detail about the school if possible? Is it diverse or mostly white? Is the surrounding city/town diverse/interesting? How cold is it (worse than Boston/New York weather)? What's the relationship between the school and the communities around it for service?

I can comment on the weather and surrounding area a bit because I'm from Rochester. It is definitely cold during the winter but not unbearable. It is comparable but a bit worse than NYC weather because you get some lake effect. I actually love the seasons and how you truly get to experience a windy fall, a snowy winter, a wet spring, and a hot summer. I don't know if you've had the same experience in Cali. There is amazing food in Rochester, the garbage plates from Nick Tahoe's will change your life. I wouldn't call it a vibrant city necessarily but there is a lot to do. I think the people are great (although I am clearly biased). Also go Bills. I'm super jealous of your II. I don't know the demographics exactly but I would say it is predominantly white in most of the surrounding areas. The school itself really values diversity though - I know that for sure. That's my 2c.

Unless you live way up in the mountains in California, the weather in Rochester and California are on opposite sides of the spectrum! High of 79F in LA today.

Based on my experiences with the pop-up cafes they host, the interview, and the current students I've spoken to, the student body itself is deff diverse and I know the school highly values diversity in all ways. That's all I can speak to so far but hope that helps 🙂

I never got a "still reviewing apps" email. Anyone else? Still waiting for an II, complete 8/25

For those who have interviewed, how many days did you have to wait for the details of the interview. I would please like to know when you got the information about your interviewers. Anyone interviewing 1/21?

I am! I think we're supposed to get more details within 48 hrs of interview day (i.e. sometime today)
