2020-2021 Seton Hall

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For everyone that submitted their secondary: It says it won’t be complete until I upload a photo. I didn’t find a tool to do that but it said my application is complete when I submitted - I’m hoping that I’m not the only one.

Read above comments. You’re not at all. I emailed them and Will update when they reply!

Does anyone know where I can find the link to the Individualized learning plans offered at the school? It seems that since their split from Seton Hall the previous info page no longer exists. This is one of the major attractions I have for attending the school. Hope they will still be offered.

I see some people have already kind of touched on this, but it seems like almost all of the links I am clicking on the website are broken. As someone else said above, I am trying to find more information on specific programs but can only find very broad and generic information. It is making answering the first question (with 500 words, no less!) pretty hard. Any advice?

So from my understanding this is a typical "talk about experiences that have made you more sensitive to other cultures/people" prompt. I talked about volunteering with a homeless community.

Your idea could work, I would just be very very careful in your wording/atriculation for the reasons you mentioned. I wouldn't necessarily say "tone deaf" but it may rub some people the wrong way. If you are going to stick with his prompt, find a way to tie it back to medicine in the end.

Curious what other think.

I have a quick question about what you said. Obviously you aren't on the admissions committee here, but how do you suggest framing the "where you sought to learn about" part of the question? I have experiences volunteering with people with developmental disorders that I was planning on talking about but the part about seeking to learn something about others is stumping me. I did learn something about people different than myself, but I don't know how to say I did this in the way they are asking.

Not the person who you quoted, but I was thinking about this too and I think I'll try to frame it as I made an effort to learn more about the people I was volunteering with in underserved communities in order to connect with them on a deeper level. I didn't start volunteering there specifically to learn about others different from myself, but I consciously tried to learn about them to enrich my understanding of their experiences and the needs of people in my community. Hopefully that makes sense!

I started out with what I learned from one experience and how that drove me to seek out a volunteering opportunity helping to address the issue I learned about.

I did the same as this

Thank you all, I appreciate it! That makes a lot of sense.

For the third essay about how our life experiences have prepared us to study medicine, do y'all think we need to touch on all of the specific examples they gave like coursework, research, volunteering, etc. or is it ok to pick only a couple of those to discuss in detail? The wording of the question with "and/or" makes me think it's ok to not mention all of the listed examples.

I had the same thought as you. The 'and/or' made me think it was okay to just pick and chose which ones to touch on.

I know some people have said they emailed about the photo submission and had no luck, but did anyone else call the number on the secondary portal? I just called (assuming it would be the admissions office number) but it was someones personal cell phone... I could tell that the person who answered was asleep when they answered. I'm just wondering if this happened to anyone else

Secondary received 8/27, OOS. Submitted today. It didn't ask me to upload a photo and my portal says "Thank you for completing your secondary application"

For the second question, I am thinking about writing about an experience I had serving the homeless. Do we think this is the type of answer they are looking for?

Now that HMSOM is independent from Seton Hall, am I correct to assume that they've dropped a lot of the religious influence? IIRC, last year's secondary included some aspects of Catholic (Christian?) principle.

So I emailed them my pic on Friday and asked if they wanted it to be submitted that way and I just got an email back today (weird cus its sunday) saying that the photo upload would be available on Monday. I'll keep you posted of when its available Monday!

Also to the person asking about how to find the service learning opportunities if you click the homepage website on the section that says unique curriculum itll take you to a page that on the right side has a bunch of orange links. The last one "community programs" will lead you to the community learning program affiliations they have so far but because its technically a new school be warned that these are rapidly developing but not yet specific activities yet.

Good luck to all

" Your application will not be considered complete until all questions are answered and your picture is uploaded . "

Anyone know where to upload their picture? I'm not seeing any other link other than the one that opens up to the application

I'm having the same problem! I just paid and hit submit and went "oh no, I didn't submit my picture! ... but wait, I didn't even see a place to upload it"

I submitted my secondary/payment last night. I still haven't gotten confirmation of either -should I contact the school to inquire?

I would hold tight for now, I haven't received confirmation either and I submitted on the 27th. I feel like a lot of the schools that use the AAMC/Applicant Gateway secondary portal do not send confirmations.

It's because they haven't dealt with the photo upload issue yet, our apps won't be considered complete until we upload one. Another commenter said that they contacted admissions who said that they'd make the page open by today but I haven't seen it yet.

Did anyone get an email this am saying they are invited to complete the next steps? Then it gives an option to upload docs?

JUST got it. I've been stalking this forum and email constantly for updates cause I really like Hackensack lol.

Same! They haven’t emailed me back when I asked but hopefully this means they are interested in us! Idk why they would say they invite us to do the next activity and why they wouldn’t just say, “hey upload your documents here”

Just got an email for the secondary and was finally able to upload my photo!
