Dean Simonian on the A-call had said the email would come in February - which also seems like quite a bit of time? Can't remember exactly if he had said January/February as the range or February/March

Turns out he probably said February in reference to financial aid info but the acceptance email itself just came through! Deposit due by Jan 15th!

Good luck with studying! What were the steps/timeline of things you did to prepare for med school after your acceptance? Things like FAFSA, loans and scholarship apps, housing, and anything that you didn't think you needed to do but now know better haha
I think my FAFSA carried over from undergrad, but the financial aid office is extremely solid and on top of their game. There's plenty of housing in the area and high turnover. Take the month off before school starts and do something that makes you happy. Definitely do not study beforehand.

Anyone else's gmail doing this weird thing where it changes the email link they give us to turn in documents from @hmhn.org to @shu.edu? Do i send my documents to the linked address or the written one?

Does anyone else know if we can just send update letters to the general admissions email provided on their website? I can't find a number to call or use the portal for updates.

some parts of their email still have SHU mentioned unfortunately. Send your documents to the SOMApplications email address.

Did anyone receive the immunizations and what not info yet?

Just adding to the dataset a little late - I got the acceptance call on 12/22 and finally received my acceptance confirmation email on 1/4/21 at like 10 PM (lol). I interviewed back in early November so I truly thought I was a goner! I emailed a letter of interest to the admissions committee in mid-December, which may have helped, but who knows.
Stats: 510 MCAT, 3.76 cGPA, 3.5 sGPA, nontrad reapplicant. Good luck to everyone else 🙂

I haven't received that info either. Hopefully it comes around the time financial aid/scholarship stuff comes out too

Third year HMSOM student in Step purgatory. Hit me up with any questions about the school or the area!
Hope step studying is going well! How realistic do you think it is to try to get through MS1 without a car?

Is the 1-on-1 interview traditional/open file? I've heard from some people that they ask more ethical questions, but others say the interviewers ask very specific questions about your app/experiences.

I think it’s depends on your interviewer. Mine was very conversational- it seemed like he had quickly glanced over my app prior but asked me to fill in the details. I wasn’t asked any ethical or VITA type questions but others have had VITA type questions asked.

Agree, it was open file but my interviewer just went down the list of questions. They'd glanced over my application, based on their responses, but it was largely all VITA-type questions off the list.

Like some others mentioned, mine was open file, but very conversational. Questions included why med, why Hackensack and also asked me about specific activities and leadership positions. Talking about these topics usually led to some tangential and lighthearted conversations. So overall, very chill interview and personally, was nothing like the VITA.

Just be yourself and show your personality! I think my interviewer had a set list of questions prepared, so my interview ended up only being 15 mins.

Congrats!👍👍Just in curiosity I am asking ,looks you had a good stats, why did they select you last year?
Do you have good Ec this year, how many hours you have this year , just I want to improve my application , next year,if I apply so far I didn’t get any interviews ....so frustrating. Thanks

Just because I saw people asking about this earlier, it seems as if they do accept pre-II updates! I sent mine to the somadmissions email and they sent me an email back saying it was received. Quick turnaround too, got the email one day after submission

thank u for this! if you dont mind me asking what is the email address?

How long does it take to receive the phone call to schedule my interview? I received the VITA invite around a week ago and have my information session thing scheduled for 1/14, but I still haven't been able to schedule my actual interview.

Did anyone get a confirmation email when they sent in their admissions and technical standards form?

Yep, I got forms on day 1 and submitted them within an hour, got a link to pay the fee on day 2, and then got a confirmation on day 3.

Well that's worrying lol. I guess I'll email on Tuesday or something if they don't send me a confirmation email. I already paid so hopefully if I sent it to the wrong email or something they'll believe it was an accident

does anyone know when the interview season from here ends? does it go through february or march? or later?

Would like to know too! They famously release secondaries very late, and with Covid-19, I’m sure there interview cycle runs longer than most?

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing something in last year's thread that their yield was lower than they expected so they continued to interview past March. I also think I saw on MSAR that they are also trying to increase their class size by a good amount, maybe like 40-50.

They may just end up accepting a higher percent of people that they interview than they have in previous years, but I would say we can safely assume they are going to at least keep the interview timeline similar to previous years. Also I know one person who interviewed and was accepted. That individual said that they were given 3-5 days notice of the interview, so I don't think they schedule super far in advance like other schools, but that is a N=1 scenario as I don't know anyone else that has ever interviewed here.

interviewed on 12/19, still have yet to hear a response... LM 73, WARS 77

Hi all. Do they accept pre-II updates? It doesn't seem like I can add new documents under the "Collect Documents" tab.

Anyone else still under prelim review? We can only get interviews once that is complete and we’re notified that it is complete right?
From past years(ie last year’s thread),it seems like some people got IIs even without being notified of being complete. Interviews also were ran until March and we’re in mid Jan for interviewing so still some to go around 🙂

also under review email without a complete email since September. Part of me wants to contact them just to see if they plan to send complete emails still, but also generally not impressed with the school’s lack of communication thus far. Either way they did send their R’s out eventually (in late april last cycle) so there’s that if anything

I interviewed on 12/14 and I have not heard anything either. I’m now wondering if we will find out during the next batch of acceptances 🤔

For those of you who did not got confirmation when you emailed your acceptance forms back, double check you sent it to the correct email which is the one @hmhn.org. I sent it to the wrong one but then received a response from them within 1 day after sending my forms to the correct email.

I sent it to the @hmhn.org one and still haven't received a response argh, will try following-up/resending

I sent to the @hmhn.org one last week and sent a follow-up to see if they were accepted this morning. I received a reply within the hour!

I have an interview scheduled for Thursday, but I have not received a call about the time of the interview/schedule. Does anyone know who I should contact?

I attended an admissions day and already completed vita....will they be calling me to schedule an interview or should I email them to remind them?

Anyone with an October completion date heard anything back yet ?

So, I didn't actually apply to HMSOM when I first applied during the 2018-2019 cycle. I was stupid about a lot of things - didn't diversity my school choices enough and applied fairly late in the cycle (was complete in early october at most schools). I had one interview but that was in march of 2019 and I ended up on the waitlist and obviously did not move off that waitlist because here I am, lol.

I think my situation is a little strange because I've been out of college since 2014, I have a master's degree in something totally unrelated to medicine, and worked in education for a while. When I first applied I had some significant experience "interning" (really shadowing) under a pediatrician but otherwise my other experiences were not related to medicine at all. Since my first unsuccessful application cycle, I added some other medically related ECs - emergency room volunteering and switching careers from education to clinical research. I took some prerequisites I never completed during undergrad - biochem and biostats - this past summer. I also made sure I poured my blood sweat and tears into my PS and secondaries, and submitted a bit earlier than last time (I think I was complete in early-mid september this time around). One of my strengths is writing/the humanities but this time around I actually paid a friend who is a writing coach to help me with my essays, and aggressively edited my secondaries/got second looks from my partner before submitting them.

In terms of hours, here's what I listed but tbh they are approximate and I think incorporate anticipated future hours as well: community volunteering during covid, 250; research job, 3000; ED volunteering, 500; physician shadowing at the same practice every week, 250; previous education job, 6000. Obviously I have quite a few from my full-time research job, but the other activities, like ED volunteering and volunteering in my community were probably just relevant/notable due to consistency. I had been volunteering at the same ED once or twice a week since 2018 until COVID hit, for example. ANYWAY, apologies for the long post. It's such a crapshoot of a process and plenty of interview invites are sent out in January so I'm hoping you get a few, but even if not, I get that it's smart to start thinking about reapplying early.
