2020-2021 SUNY - Downstate

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone been in contact with admissions committee about the "plan to enroll" email that was sent last night? I selected that in February and it looks like other people got the email as well so not sure if it was a mistake and it was sent out to everyone

I emailed them last night saying I selected PTE in March with a screenshot of proof and they got back to me this morning with "Thank you for your email update. We will mark that into our system."

I also got the same e-mail. Thought I was going crazy when I had the AAMC e-mail just below that said I had clearly selected Downstate for a PTE.

I think it was just an error. They were only able to see who exactly the applicant PTE’s today not yesterday.

It doesn’t sound like it was a mistake based on the response I got. There might have been a technical error or something because apparently they couldn't see my PTE selection from their end?

Dear (My Name),
Thank you for your email update. We will ensure that your selection is updated within our system as it was not before. You should now have the option to “Commit to Enroll” and can now select that option.
Should you have any other questions, please feel free to email this account again.
Sincerely,

But I checked my CYMS tool before I sent them an email and the Commit to Enroll option was already available

Yeah I got the same thing, I've been trying to correspond further and confirm that I'm good but they haven't been answering.

I also received the PTE email and had put down in February that I PTE'd at Downstate, I re-checked it last night and re-submitted the PTE, and replied to Downstate's email. Apparently, it wasn't marked in their system that I PTE there? and they updated it in their system, so maybe the initial email wasn't a mistake?

I feel like it's not fair to have alternates complete the pre-matriculation checklist prior to an acceptance in the program. They're asking us to go out of our way to get blood work done in order to even be considered for admission into the program. Talk about barrier to entrance for applicants.
Is this the case? I’m on the AL and thought that this was just so we could be proactive. If we don’t complete it we won’t be considered for an A?

And I quote

"You must complete ALL the items listed on the pre-matric checklist in order to be considered for Admissions to the Class entering"

This was what what said under the "For alternates". So that sounds like the case.

Woof. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

Yes, I guess that’s what made me think it was more of “in order to matriculate” rather than “in order to be accepted.” But now I’m not sure.
I'm pretty sure that that you don't have to do all this stuff to be taken off the AL and accepted, I know of someone who was accepted last year off AL and didn't do any of the stuff.

I think they have this silly system set up for people who drop out of the class after July 1st and they need someone ready to go off the WL so they have you do all this stuff.

Also, there's no way I'm going to Brooklyn to take a 90$ BLS training just to be considered to be taken off AL. It just makes no sense.

Guys I’m freaking out!!!!!! Please help. I selected “Plan to Enroll” at downstate in February. I just checked, and it remains my selection. I withdrew all my other acceptances. Just checked, and I still have downstate selected at “Plan to Enroll.” They just emailed me that I don’t have anything selected, and that my acceptance would be rescinded if I don’t select “Plan to Enroll” or “Commit to Enroll” by the end of the day tomorrow. But I have had “Plan To Enroll” selected for months!!!! What do I do????
OK THANK GOSH. same here I was like bro I sped over to AMCAS to select 'Plan to Enroll' as soon as i got the admission notice. It was so scary because in the email they say 'a review of your AMCAS reveals you haven't picked yet" LIKE WHAT. Honestly... it's kinda worrying that they are this bad at communication.

I think any BLS course will satisfy their requirement.

If you have another acceptance then I would just do it. You’ll need it anyway for another school. If you have no acceptance yet, i would get those things that don’t cost money/ not very time consuming. For instance, if you need some vaccine/booster then you could get them, you’ll need it next year, if not this year. As for blood titer, you could either do it or save it towards the end. They’ll give you some deadline extension if you get pulled out from AL.
P.S. last year, some people with no pre-matric checklist from AL got in and some with all pre-matric didn’t get in (So, this probably won’t be a deciding factor but if you end up getting in, you’ll be in a lot less stress if you have everything preplanned!)

I may just not be able to find it on the pre-matric tab but does anyone know where we upload our BLS certification? Additionally not seeing an upload section for the Proof of Citizenship nor transcripts? Is there an email we forward it to? Thanks

I think there is a section where you could upload it. Or you could simply email those documents to [email protected]

Where do you guys upload the vaccination history, blood tests, citizenship etc?

Was anyone else asked to answer another writing prompt before they reviewed your profile for a decision? I was confused on why they cared or if it’s just a common thing for them to do.

Thank you! I sent an update/interest letter a couple of weeks before being placed on the AL but not after!
Same I sent my update letter a few months before the alternate list email, not after.
