2020-2021 Toledo

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hello other random lurker who didn't apply to Toledo! And apparently Toledo is working on some kind of amazing video interview format and have so far delayed sending interview invites until they get it figured out , so instead there's discussion about cheese, desserts, music, etc. Makes you wish you applied to Toledo!

Also Toledo needs an interview tracker so we can all see how large the first wave ends up being whenever it decides to happen. You know in 2030 at this rate 😛
Oh yes after reading the Toledo forum I wish wish to apply.. Anyways I am OOS west coast guy with no ties to Ohio and Toledo would reject me probably next year.. or in 2030 ..😛 Good luck to every one .

I assure you I’m not a sleeper agent. I’m in the applicant pool jsut like all of you. I’m just a little more patient and I don’t think we should be putting the ADCOM on blast considering the state of affairs in our country. Give them a break...trust me, I know how stressful this is...but in the end it will all work out for all of us! Be positive...I am an Emergency Room-Trauma nurse and if I can stay positive through all of this then so can YOU!!!

Good luck to you, you are more than welcome to continue in our discussion if you would like. I agree with @FrederickFlores, we should all be patient. That being said, I've enjoyed having our conversations and see no reason why those should stop but we also should take care not to blast the adcoms. Especially, since they have reached out through our sdn site to at least let us know they are checking in with us. 🙂

Just what a sleeper agent would say....

Jk, it’s good to have a positive spin when there is literally nothing anyone here can do about the situation. I think everyone here though has been frustrated from the lack of any formal communication from Toledo. We all understand this year is a lot tougher than most but the silence about they are progressing can be fairly a little frustrating.

I know everyone is trying to just get into school, but I don’t know why anyone that has options would choose Toledo at this point. It is now December and the school has not figured it out, why would I trust them with my medical education over somewhere else?

It is tough for me to be empathetic with the program when they’re the only one in the nation that can’t get their act together. It makes me extremely skeptical of their leadership and administration.

"I know everyone is trying to just get into school, but I don’t know why anyone that has options would choose Toledo at this point...."

Because tech support does not teach medical school.

You don’t think this is a reflection of something greater that tech support? Delaying an interview cycle a few weeks to work out some technological kinks is one thing. Delaying it through December is concerning for a lack of organization in the program. Hell they could at least choose to do VITA at this point but they haven’t found a way to make anything work it seems.

One of the schools I interviewed at simply sent a list of Zoom links (one for the info session, and then a link for each individual interview). How hard would it be to just do that? The best Zoom interview interface I've seen was up and running from the beginning of the cycle... can no one at Toledo figure out how to do it?? I hope whoever gets an interview here is on a very short list of people... like 90% chance of acceptance with an II.

That’s what I’m saying. I have had the same experience, it’s literally just a few zoom links. That’s something you can set up in a few minutes so you can have a conversation with applicants. They don’t need to reinvent the wheel.

Any of their strong applicants will likely have an acceptance by the time they figure this out and will be thinking the same thing.

Alright everyone, its time we all give a controversial opinion we all keep to ourselves. I’ll go first:

Hotdogs should be considered sandwichs.
I've had this conversation many times on drunken nights with friends, and if you really boil it down, you can categorize a LOT of things as sandwiches.

Agreed. Especially since the fillings/toppings are standard sandwich fare.

Speaking of hot dogs, the Toledo area is sort of famous (to us old folks) for a place called Tony Pakco's. They make different styles of hot dogs and have a bunch of other Hungarian stuff too. (Menu). My SO loves their fried pickles. They also have a wall of celebrity signed hot dog buns. They are "famous" in large part due to the TV show M*A*S*H.

There's another great hot dog place down in Columbus.

Favorite hot dog toppings?

omg Tony packo's SLAPS!!! I am born in raised in Florida but my whole fam on my Dad's side is from Toledo going back generations and this place is such a staple lol

I know a bunch of people have probs already contacted admissions, but just sent an email to them! Ill report back what I hear 🙂 I agree its a bit ridiculous that its Dec with no communication from them... in a year that EVERY med school is having to do virtual interviews, its not just them lol. I was patient up until like November haha

So, what you're saying is if we get into Toledo, not only am I organizing a wine and cheese party, I'm also going to be renting a van for a Tony Packo's class outing?

Got a quick response actually lol: heres what they said: “We have had delays this cycle going to a virtual interview platform which has just rolled out. We will start sending out interview invites on a rolling basis in the next couple of weeks.”
Very vague response, but we will take it! So this means II's sent before Christmas break?

One thing that has brought me so much joy this cycle is returning to the chaos that is the Toledo forum. Like the moment I feel like I'm internally spiraling out of control, I find myself back at this page and it resets everything. Truly magical.

Au contraire, my friend! Observe, if you will, that the ingredients are cooked prior to blending them into that...abomination...whereas ketchup is cooked after the blending process occurs. Hence, ketchup is still not a smoothie.

...although I suppose we may consider it to be a sad, thick soup. 🤔

Ahh but for ketchup you cook the tomatoes before and after blending, according to the wonderful consortium of knowledge which is Wikipedia. Very similar to if you wanted a hot smoothie. Therefore ketchup = smoothie

can someone tell me if there's asian food in Toledo? I need to know if I need to bring my ramen supply or not ~if~ invites ever go out

There are a few very small asian markets in toledo. I usually just drive 40 mins into Michigan for their supermarkets. There is however, a few decent restaurants here.

Hmm, but isn't a hot smoothie a soup? Or, if not, does that mean that say, cream of chicken soup is a hot smoothie?
