How is everyone answering the "Phonetically spell your last name"? Are you guys using a phonetic spelling guide? I can't find a spelling of my last name anywhere in the internet? lol

Did anyone NOT receive a "we received your app email"? Also, for the people getting secondaries, did you receive that email or just an email prompting you to submit a secondary?
Dont wanna disappoint or anything especially because this could be totally coincidental but this is just my experience.. my first app cycle, I got the "received" email and never got a secondary. this time I did NOT get the "received" email but I did get a secondary. For reference, first app cycle I had a low gpa/low mcat now I have a low gpa/high mcat

IS, just received a secondary!
And I never received the "we received your app email." This was the first correspondence I've gotten from UCI ever

IS, received today at 2am

I got two emails before this. The first said they received my application, but it was on hold because I didn't take the MCAT yet (7/18). Then a followup email correcting the hold because it was using their policy from last year.

How far into sending secondaries do you think UCI has gotten through? In other words, is their hope yet for those of us who haven’t heard back?

For prereqs, if I've taken more than the minimum requirements should I keep adding more classes? For example I took 3 Q of intro chem, 3 Q of orgo, and 3 Q of biochem. Should I list all of those or just the minimum 6 quarters?

Received secondary. in-state. I don't think I received any prior emails from UCI.

edit: verified on 07/06

I have not received any emails that’s why I asked.

Have you participated in service to the Latino/Latinx/Latine community for at least one year?

The locations I've volunteered (hospitals, food banks etc.) are places with a high Latino population (southern Texas), would this satisfy the requirement? I didn't specifically volunteer because of the Latino community, it's just the demographic of the area I so happen to be in.

Hey guys, I volunteer at my community free health clinic, conduct patient interviews and check vitals, that sort of stuff. Its technically clinical experience and community service, any recommendation on how to approach the activities section? Should I list it under both clinical and community or does that look like double-dipping ?

I did not repeat my clinical volunteering in the community service section. They will be able to see all so they can tell. I did however put research in both research section and employment because it was my official employment position.

Thank you for your response!

Received a secondary last night at 2:00 AM. IS applicant, verified 5/28. MCAT 518 and GPA 3.9

Edit: Also as others have said I only received the secondary invite email, I did not receive any email indicating that they had received my application

How did you guys approach hours/week if we don't volunteer/work every week? Just divide the total number of hours by the number of weeks? or list the number of hours we would work/volunteer in that specific week?

Two questions:
1. For activities we are doing but they are on halt due to COVID-19, should we still list them as "to present"?
2. For activities in which we volunteered like once a month (like at a homeless shelter), should we take the hours (like 4 hour service) and divide them by 4 so it reflects hours/week (so I would put 1 hour/week)?

Tbh Idk if this is important logistics they really care about but I don't wanna overshoot how many hours I'm putting...

Received Secondary at 2 am today. IS. Verified 7/24. I went to UCI for Undergrad. GPA 3.99, MCAT 510

Question - I had transcripts sent during spring quarter (UC school) and so they did not include my final spring quarter grades. Do we need to send updated transcripts with final grades or is that only required if you accept an offer ?

I am in the same position and from what I've seen for every school is that you only send updated information if they ask for it. So I wouldn't do it unless they ask.

I have lower stats and I was surprised to hear back from any of the UCs. Are the UC wanting extra money this year or is there a realistic shot after getting secondaries?

They are pretty holistic and really want IS ties, particularly IS near their service region. (at least for UCI, UCR, and UCD; UCLA and UCSD are different). at UCI last year, only 15 out of 104 matriculants were OOS. But UCI recently got more competitive stats-wise: Median 517 MCAT with a 10th percentile of a 511, Median 3.83 GPA with a 10th percentile of 3.58.

They could be moving towards less stringent screening to get more money from 2º's, but I think they also like to have "rainy day" applicants. They also might have lowered the bar a lil because they think they will have fewer applicants this cycle due to COVID, IDK. All speculation.

I will say that if you are IS with ties to the community and/or IS URM (particularly Latino for UCI) you shouldn't worry too much about stats and just shoot your shot.

Interesting points! Are your GPA and MCAT still being considered when they decide to give interviews? Or for the UCs is getting a secondary kind of indicate they will look at other parts of your app to extend interviews? My mcat is low, strong IS states, and not ORM so I was honestly surprised to hear back from them in general

I'm sure your GPA/MCAT are still considered, I just don't think that they send a 2º unless they think the applicant could potentially be invited for an interview (unlike most other schools that don't screen at all). And yeah they definitely look at the other parts of your app for fit and regional ties.

Finally got my secondary this morning! IS

Also, anyone else a little peeved that we had to manually input our activities? And even the prerequisites (same with several other secondary apps). It seems a little redundant if we've already inputted all that information in our primary.

just got my secondary at 2am! IS - MCAT 519/GPA 3.96

I'm not sure if this is true of most ppl but I didn't get an "application received" email so idk if they're sending those

Received a secondary this morning as well! (IS) I have a 511 and 3.75, verified on 7/15

Got every UC but UCI and UCSF. Didn't think Irvine would screen so hard; IS and have decent stats for their school. Anyone still waiting?

I'm also still waiting 🙁 I got all UCs but Davis and Irvine (and I think Riverside hasn't started sending them out yet too but not 100% sure)

For the pre-reqs, should we also list biology and chemistry lab? Is 3 semesters of bio lab also required?

IS Secondary Received on 8/14

Seconding this question. If anyone has an answer it would be appreciated!
