2020-2021 Vermont

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congratulations everyone on your interviews!!!! You will all do well. UVM’s interview was a great time; very nice people. Feel free to DM me with any questions!

i have a follow up question for the MMI. How do you guys prepare for something like this? Are they ethical scenarios that I should think about and know what position I should take? I assume that there might be role playing as well.

I think of MMI's as similar to CASPer in that they look at your thought process at managing certain scenarios. My biggest advice is to not rush to an answer or try to get the "right position", but to clearly communicate your thought process and how you can see multiple angles surrounding an issue. One of the worst things you can do for MMIs is to move quickly to an answer without considering the wider possible context or even thinking to ask that question. As an example, one general case could be that a patient comes in and has consistently not been taking their blood pressure/diabetes/etc medication. What do you say and do? If you make an assumption that the patient has been noncompliant and you decide to scold them into taking the medicine, that's the wrong way to approach this. It's possible there are socioeconomic factors making it tough for your patient to purchase their medicine, they have other pressing issues going on, or more. Digging into these possibilities will help you in these interviews.

ii this morning OOS complete 10/4

Do people have any information regarding the Burlington vs CT campuses? I have read up on their website and they list many pros for both. Are there cons to not being on the main Burlington campus? I know we have to choose one after the interview so I wanted to start looking into which I might find a better fit. I live in NY near the CT campus sites, but I don't know the cons of not being in Burlington, if any. Could it hurt to be at community teaching hospitals rather than an academic center? Any information would be helpful!!

This II is all I want in the world, y'all are killing me 😢 Complete mid-July, though, so you're giving me some hope! Any chance some of these IIs came through into the early afternoon, or were they all this morning?

I would also (albeit prematurely) be interested in any current student thoughts on Burlington vs. CT campuses!

Does anyone have any advice for the interview process especially now that it's in a virtual format?

I was able to find this article, and some other ones from UVM's webpage, but would appreciate if current students or those whom have already interviewed can provide some feedback!

Thanks!!!

I only got December dates. How long does their interview cycle run for? Does anyone know how long this school continues to interview for before they run out of slots?

Accepted!!! Interviewed mid-Sep. Thought my performance in my interview was pretty meh so don’t doubt yourself!

Any tips for the interview process? It's fully virtual now and a 2.5 hr session. The info they put out on the website is more applicable to the onsite interviews. Just wondering if there's any feedback you can share!

I interviewed on 9/14 and haven't heard anything back yet. I'm wondering if they release acceptances in waves or if I got wait listed/rejected..... Blah

It was a generic email so I'm assuming they're all sent at the same time

It’s the friendliest MMI you’ll ever have. But they keep their interview process confidential for a reason.

EDIT: Feel free to PM me with any non-condifential question 🙂

So for everyone who interviewed a while ago and didn't hear anything today I went and looked at some previous threads to help calm myself...

2018-2019 Cycle: First acceptances sent out on 10/23, next ones sent out 10/24, and then the next ones sent out 11/16. *Some people who interviewed later received acceptance earlier than people who interviewed earlier.* Someone who interviewed on 9/29 receieved an acceptance a month earlier than someone who interviewed on 9/14.

2019-2020 Cycle: First acceptances sent out on 10/15, the next ones were sent out nearly a month later 11/13. Same thing where your interview date didn't necessarily correspond to your acceptance date.

Yeah when I interviewed here 2x in the last two cycles they made it pretty clear that at the ADCOM meetings they prioritize those with the highest interview/file scores to be spoken at that meeting. They don't necessarily go in order of when you interviewed. This is true at many schools. So while seeing someone who interviewed much later than you hear back must be frustrating, its just important to remember that they probably REALLY stood out. It doesn't mean you won't still get an A.

Do you think the IIs were sent in order of pre-interview rank/applicant score? Or is it more complex than that probably? In other words, if Applicant A interviews before B but B gets accepted first, can you assume B had the higher interview score which boosted their overall score above A?

I mean we literally have no idea how their system works lol.
