2020-2021 Wayne State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
wait why aren't you feeling optimistic?
After seeing other people accepted and WL from my interview day and after, combined with the fact that they don't seem to send post-II rejections, the signs seem to point to a silent R or a low-priority WL at best. That being said, I clearly don't know what I'm talking about since this is my second cycle with no A's thus far. Here's hoping I'm wrong in this case!

any current students lurking in here? i was hoping to maybe get a current student's perspective on what they think makes wayne state special compared to other programs?
M2 here: we are one of only 6 med schools in the nation to do use cadavers for gross anatomy rather than a computer program, so that's a plus; we also have about 3 months of free time during our 4th years to pretty much do whatever we want.

I'd honestly still hope for the best - they seem disorganized based on previous threads and that coupled with this COVID-cycle can make the wait even more tedious. At this point (and based on previous threads), they mostly reject if there were red flags in your interview (not fitting the school's mission, sounding arrogant, etc). 🙂 Did you interview at Wayne last year?

Not trying to be rude but I’ve interviewed at a dozen places now and more than half of them talked about using cadavers for anatomy.

These are good points, thank you. And no, I didn't.

Hey, I'm also Canadian with LM 69 and got in off WL, hang in there!! There's hope!
Hey, would you happen to know if it is too late to apply now for the primary as a Canadian? On their website, they state that they do not use rolling admissions, primary deadline is Dec 31 2020, but preferred by Nov 1. Thank you for your assistance.

Hey! To be honest with you, yeah, it's late to submit the primary now... I know the primary deadline is Dec 31 2020 but by now most MD schools in the USA, including Wayne, already have conducted or handed out almost all of their interviews so I would say it's best to wait until the next cycle. You would spend tons of money applying for minimal or no returns.

However it isn't too late to submit a primary for DO schools right now. I would say go for it if you have a very solid application and can write good essays. I would get on it asap lol

The biggest difference I made this second application cycle to the USA that helped me get accepted is applying early and applying strategically. Even if schools don't do rolling admissions, the earlier you get your application in, the earlier yours gets looked at before others submit theirs. Just something to keep in mind for next application cycle.

Happy for you! Applied early at Wayne with great stats but complete silence 😂! Atleast I have other acceptances but it’s sad cause this was my top school!

Hey, thank you for the advice. As a Canadian, I am not familiar with DO schools, would you happen to know which DO schools are worth considering? I noticed that you applied to a number of them. If you don't mind me asking, could you share which medical school and DO schools offered you interviews? Thank you for your assistance.

MSUCOM and LECOM among others would be good places to start.

just curiosu why is it your top choice?

Just got the invitation to future warrior MD chats. My heart skipped a beat 🙁
Do they not know how annoying those emails are to people on the waitlist/without an II? Still haven't recovered after I got that email a few weeks ago and thought I had been pulled off the waitlist.

I'm not getting any of these chat emails lol ....never have gotten one ever :/ bad sign? (frantic & anxious premed asking😂)
It’s not a bad sign. Idt they have the time to sort out these emails based on preferred candidates lmao

For anyone interviewing in the new year please help. on the AMP portal under the interview tab, it just says interview day info, NDA, video release and agenda. There isn't a "web interview" tab. Should I contact Wayne or is this normal?

based on older threads, for those on the waitlist who may be rejected when do you think Wayne will start notifying applicants?

This is normal. I was also worried about this but they said the tab will only show up the week of your interview (and it did)

okay perfect, thanks! Yeah in the email after I confirmed my track and date it said something about "the web interview tab should now show up," but that makes sense.

No problem! That confused me too, cause I first asked on this thread and someone said it would show up later, but when I saw that it said "the web interview tab should now show up" I emailed them and they said it would show up the week of the interview. the only info in that tab is technical requirements for what devices and browsers will work, the interviewer names, and the actual links to start the interview. (also wanted to add that I already interviewed but I imagine it will be the same for those that interview in the new year)

Does Wayne State do VITA interviews btw? I remember they were on the list initially in May

Have any of you who have interviewed done the Future Warrior MD chats? If so, did you feel like it was informational or beneficial at all?
I haven't interviewed yet, but did receive an invite and attended some of the chats. They're helpful but most of the time they dodge questions about WL movement and admissions because none of them are on the admissions committee.

I had a couple miscellaneous questions if anyone knows the answers to some of them (prospective students or WSU students!):
-Are lectures mandatory to attend?
-Is there a dress code when you are on campus?
-How often are exams? (also heard there are weekly quizzes?)
-What does your typical week of class look like?
