2020-2021 Wayne State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks fo your detailed response! It was really helpful.
I have a question about the housing. Where do most students live? Are there any specific apartment complexes that most of them live in? Any recommendation is much appreciated! 🙂
So I know some students decide to live on campus since those apartments are usually pretty close but sometimes pricier, some of us live at studio one and surrounding buildings...it really depends on what you’re budgeting for housing! I will say closer to matriculation time, our class made a spreadsheet where we figured out roommates and housing so I wouldn’t stress too much about that yet!

Is it a good idea to send update letters now? Or would it be better to wait till after the Holidays?

are they done interviewing pretty much? thought id get sum love here like my other canadian peers🤧 lm 75
nope theyre done in Feb. they may release more invites in January (based on last years thread they did release more in the new year)

it says they released almost 1500 interviews already on the tracker and thought they are capping it around 1500?
that's true but a lot of people could possibly turn down interviews opening up spots and they also prematurely update the tracker sometimes

I had a couple miscellaneous questions if anyone knows the answers to some of them (prospective students or WSU students!):
-Are lectures mandatory to attend?
-Is there a dress code when you are on campus?
-How often are exams? (also heard there are weekly quizzes?)
-What does your typical week of class look like?

- lectures are not mandatory
- when you have your clinical skills course you are required to dress professionally with your white coat, but that's it
- weekly quizzes are required but open note and aren't hard, just do them, get the credit, and move on; either than that, you will have an exam ever 4-6 weeks
- for M1 you will have probably about 16-20 hours of lecture including the possibility of 3-9 hours of lab depending on the unit; M2 is a lot less

Could you or other current students provide some insight about the work-life balance at Wayne State? I would like to know if students enjoy their lives while attending Med school? Although studying hard is important, I believe that the quality of life and ability to engage in activities that make you happy is also important in making a decision on where to go.
Thanks!

Hey everyone! I have an interview in early January, and just wanted to ask if anyone had any acting/drawing MMI stations when they interviewed here?

Every school has had a record number of applications which begs the question, why?

Did people think it would be easier getting in with COVID or did schools take advantage of this anxiety with looser admission requirements that they did not even follow? Maybe a combination of the above

Why is there waaaay more apps during a pandemic?

Maybe extracurricular things like research, shadowing, etc., schools understand if students didn't get as many hours in, so they decided to apply with what they have. Also, what has been considered "late" in submitting primaries in the past, wasn't the case this year. COVID allowed people to submit their primaries later in the cycle and still be "on time." The schools knew that the MCAT was cancelled and kept being delayed. Lastly, this cycle was less expensive since we could take on as many interviews as we wanted with no worries about having to pay for flights, hotels, ubers, etc.

Congratulations on the 8 interview invites and 3 acceptances! If you don't mind me asking, did your app have a pretty incredible X factor?

Thank you! And nothing out of the ordinary. I had a few gap years to do a post-bacc, work, and do some volunteering. I think my very strong upward trend in my post-bacc really helped. And just having a good story and the intention of bringing diversity to my class, since I have had years of work experience outside of the medical field.

Do you mind sharing your stats(not LizzyM complete day) OOS or IS?

Thanks

Have any Canadians received the hard copy of their offer letter yet? Checked the mail today and there was nothing yet
