This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I called and was told that if we interviewed and haven’t heard back, it means they still haven’t made a decision about us yet, and all that we could do is continue waiting. Who knows what that really means, but based on previous years threads, it doesn’t seem positive.

Someone please come sew my breaking heart 💔

Also to second that. I have friends who got in in April (previous cycles) who interviewed same time as me (Oct). Don't drive yourself crazy (like me who had an anxiety attack) till actual confirmation!!

Was this off WL or silent then A in April?

That's foul..

side question, anyone have an idea how good the WL movement is here?

I'm just going to forget about all this and look forward to the next cycle.

have you ever contacted them about an update regarding your application? i’d be going nuts if i had to wait that long!
I contacted them I think in December and they said they're still reviewing applications. I don't recommend contacting them, they don't tell you anything you already don't know. They also don't accept update letters unfortunately

I don't want to be pessimistic but I don't like the odds of this. Most people in last year's thread who were ghosted for months got Rs at the end of the cycle

Yeah but what can we do. Better to not try to stress about it since there's nothing else we can do at this point (although it's all looming over our heads)

Is anyone concerned about how well CUSM will perform in matching?
For what its worth, we did match people into Urology and Ophthalmology this year. Obviously, we still have the NRMP match coming up but I'll try and remember to report back here the "gist" of it.

With any new program you're gonna have to prove yourself a bit more but you certainly wont be "black listed" out of certain specialties. And keep in mind that anyone becoming an M1 this year will be following four match cycles. By that time CUSM will certainly be more known and established.

My interview is coming up on 3/11. Any advice? Thank you so much. Best of luck to everyone 🙂

If you had to make a list of the 7 most asked interview questions... expect at least 3 of them to come up. Other than that, know your primary application and practice talking about it.

i feel you it’s been a stressful few weeks waiting in silence. this is my top choice too. freaking out doesn’t even come close to how i feel honestly.

cant speak for everyone but just prepare for chill and casual conversation. Mine felt a little tooo chill where it was just us talking about life and stuff but just expect a no curveball interview and all the faculty definitely do their best to make sure u feel ur best and not uncomfortable at all

I created this account to share this 1 story. I interviewed 2/4 *fingers crossed*. Two weeks after, I received a call from Colton, CA. On the phone was the advisor/moderator who led the interview day. I thought, this is it!!! I answered, "hello?" She replies, "check your outlook email," which was odd because I don't have outlook. I could hear her confusion as I explained. Ultimately, I received a phone call in error. Yes, she meant to dial my phone number, but I was not the correct person on the phone 🙄 It was soul-crushing. I thought to myself, what if this is the closest I get to an A 😭 I'm still hopeful, but talk about a roller coster of a phone call 😏

if it helps, i think they only email their decisions. that’s what it says on the website. did she say why she was calling? that’s so weird…

Yes, I have since learned lol
She said check your email. I said thats not my email and are you sure this is the right number and I'm the right person. Oddly, the name she provided *kinda* rhymed with mine, so I thought she misspoke or the signal lost connection. But I think she realized her mistake and quickly said sorry and good-bye :dead:
Its either good because my file was being reviewed or a person with a similar name was A and they called my number wrongly
It was killer because I had another interview 3 hours later and I was stunned how it seemed to slip away.

anyone from 2/4 hear back today or at all? Feel like they’ve delayed decisions like crazy now

1/28 here. if i dont hear back today should i email admissions or just accept it as a soft R. today would technically be the last day within the timeframe they gave me

Curious to know if you do. When I did, the response they gave me was pretty arbitrary.

same, i’m so confused. have they even sent any waitlist emails lately? it’s officially been 5 weeks since the interview on 1/28 and it’s still radio silent for me. it seems like everyone who asks gets told they “haven’t made a decision” for them yet. i wish they’d just be more transparent with us.

hi! can anyone give me the format of the interview they had when interviewing for CUSM? What should I prep for? They haven't given any info. Thanks!

its a traditional open file interview. 1 on 1

My guess is aftwr every 4 or 5 weeks, they pick their favorite applicants for that interview day. If you don't get the A, then they have likely moved on from you. Towards the end of the cycle they pick the best from what's left over and waitlist them, then reject everyone else.

From last year's thread it seems more like they pick favorite applicants and give A. Rest that they liked but not enough points for A will get WL. And.. seems like if you don't hear anything, most of time will end up being R at the end

it’s just weird because it doesn’t seem like they’ve given any WL’s lately.

Makes sense. I'm already content with the fact that I got rejected. I'm already gearing up for the next cycle. If I get a WL, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I interviewed 1/28 and i was waitlisted a week ago or so
Nice! Yeah, I am sure they've moved on from the rest of us 1/28 interviewees. Maybe there us a small chance of a WL for some of us later, but only if a lot of people decline their acceptances.

I feel like it's honestly rude that they ghost people for months after the interview. They should either reject you or send you an email a month after your interview saying that they can't make a decision on your application at this time and put you on hold or something. I know that they don't care but still. Any sort of communication would be nice.

Yeah I understand they may want to keep their options open, so they don't reject until the end. But saying something like your app is on hold seems like a respectful thing to do. Again, it isn't going to change what I am doing now moving forward, so whatever, but I understand a lot of people are still holding out hope for good news. They deserve some sort of correspondence, like you're saying.

I interviewed 3/4 and I'm already antsy... so, I can only imagine what you all feel... fingers crossed for us all

I did some deep diving into the CUSM threads for the past two cycles, and it’s fair to say that everyone’s assessment is correct. They have a pretty reliable record of sending out acceptances and waitlists within 3-5 weeks of the respective interview date. And nearly every applicant who has reported hearing nothing beyond that timeframe received a rejection in May (I say “nearly” because it *could* be possible that there was some miraculous outlier who didn’t post to SDN). It leaves very little room to be hopeful, honestly.

I agree and that seems to be the case, unless they change their app process, though that is unlikely. Last year was a very weird app cycle for them considering they were interviewing up until may if im correct. So, unless theyre doing something like UCR, the post week 5 ghost is most likely an R in May unfortunately. I just dont see the logic in keeping us around that long

I think a current student further up in the threads mentioned some students hearing back later in the cycle and to not give up hope, but I tend to agree that there isn't any reason for the school to tie us up and say absolutely nothing. I think what upsets me the most is that this profession is held on the principles of accountability, yet there are a few schools that still choose to exercise silence towards some of their applicants for months on end, only to reject them in the end without any explanation or opportunity for discussion on how to improve. At least with schools like Yale and Duke, if you get interviewed early, you KNOW all their decisions won't be coming out until February regardless of when you interviewed. They are extremely transparent about that, but that's not the case here.

It really isn't that hard to put in place a system that puts students on hold and notifies them of this. It at least lets the student know that "hey, we looked at your app, the committee discussed, but we just aren't sure yet." To accept or waitlist others from later interview dates and leave the earlier ones without any regard for direction just makes no sense.
