OOS applicant, never got a secondary. Just got my first rejection of the cycle. Thanks EVMS! I don't know what they use to screen, but it is definitely not statistics since my GPA and MCAT are both above their averages. What probably got me was my lower number of volunteer hours and non-traditional clinical experience since they are very service-heavy in their class profile. Best of luck to everyone else!
Same boat here, best of luck for the rest of the cycle...we've got this!

Yep, just received a secondary! OOS applicant, had been verified since day 1. Better late than never 🙂

Brush it off. Cycle is still so early. You got this!
Oh, I am. Honestly, I'm happy I got the R because I don't need to submit a $100 secondary before receiving the same result, and also because this R means that I might start hearing back from other schools as well. It is early, but like most of us, I just want to start hearing ANYTHING. Best of luck to you!

Did you get a rejection email through email?

LOL I was not sure either, the way I read his posts kinda made me think him not receiving a secondary yet was his way of thinking he was rejected not an actual rejection email, so I was with ya

Let me clarify: I did not receive a secondary invitation before I received the rejection email. They sent me a succinct email yesterday morning:

"Dear [redacted],

EVMS receives numerous applications each year; however, we do not have enough seats in the class to accept everyone. After reviewing your application, the MD Admissions Committee is unable to offer you a seat for the Doctor of Medicine Program this admissions cycle.

We wish you well in your future endeavors.

Sincerely,
Thomas D. Kimble, M.D.
Assistant Vice Dean
Admissions and Enrollment"

Although, the smoke signals rejection method sounds fun. That'd throw a bit more excitement into the app cycle.

What is their screen for secondaries if anyone knows

Idk but I am guessing if you meet a certain stat threshold i.e. 3.7+/510+ you get a secondary automatically. If you are under this, they are mostly likely doing holistic review and that is why secondaries and Rs are coming out in batches. Just a guess, if anyone has noticed a different pattern feel free to correct me!

I submitted my secondary a little over two weeks ago and received my formal rejection early this evening. I made it past the secondary screening, and thought I might be a good fit with the school (OOS but heavy service commitments), but was unfortunately given a quick rejection. Good luck to the rest of the applicants! I wanted to let everyone know they are starting to work their way through the submitted applications.

Sorry to hear that. I wish you the best of luck this cycle!

Same here! Just got rejected as well, OOS applicant. I do know they use a screen - I think for OOS it's more about mission fit if I'm not mistaken, as my stats are also above their averages. Ah well, better to reject me now before I have to pay more to be rejected later. Good luck to you, and good luck to those who got secondaries!

Unfortunate. Best of luck to you the rest of the way! Your school is out there waiting for you!

Does EVMS offer explanations / advising for pre-secondary rejections? I probably ran into a screen but it's hard to say where.

With the Organic Chemistry Lab requirement, I took a 2 credit lab that covered Orgo 1 and 2, but did not take two labs. Does anyone else have a similar situation and/or know how to proceed on the prerequisite component of the application?

Update: wouldn't have received a secondary if my pre-reqs weren't OK, so it is fine to only have one Orgo Lab course so long as it was two credits. Hope this helps anyone in the same boat!

I only had one 2 credit lab course as well!

Hey for the "describe your exposure to medicine", do I talk about my clinical experiences? or is it something else.

I talked about how my clinical experience has given me a clearer picture of what the medical field and, more specifically, being a doctor entails.

So people are getting rejections but no II's yet?

Where did you see this? If you don't mind, sharing what exactly did the update say?
They emailed me! I’m retaking on 8/27. I am a reapplicant, never got off any waitlist from last cycle so it’s a little later retake than I wanted but I wanted to be prepared!

they said it’s on hold until my score and to wail them once my score comes in
