2021-2022 NYU, Long Island

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I did some digging and noticed that for everyone who got an erroneous letter was interviewed in one of the first few interview dates (ofc some people didn't post anything so this could be wrong). So this is likely a mistake based on us being early interviewees.
Most likely. Just take my soul already but stop the pain

Why didn’t they email all of the applicants in the final cesspool, idgi 🥴🥴🥴

Guys, just received this email:

Dear whataweirdo,

It has been brought to our attention by our admissions software vendor that an “admissions decision” tab on your portal was erroneously activated, and that earlier today you viewed certain portal pages that are currently under construction.

Please be advised no acceptance or waitlist decisions have been issued; admissions notifications will be communicated beginning Tuesday, February 15.

We apologize for any confusion that this may have caused.

Kind regards,

The NYULISOM Admissions Team
I am a bit confused. Do we think those who received the portal update will be the only ones getting the "official" notification next week?

Doubt it. I think it really was an IT mistake based on our interview dates

No, in other words, their email means: "hey yo, some stuff went down on our end and sorry for u feeling so special but you are not, we will call people who actually got accepted on Tuesday, Feb 15th"

P.S. Grain of sarcasm here, all of us are special 😎

Also did anyone get a personal response back? What does it mean that the software vendor alerted them. It sounds like many emails were sent 😂

Also, for school that only excepts 24 students, there seems to be a lot of mistakes...

Everyone on this thread went through so many emotions. The ones we did not get the special tab were distraught and understandably upset. The ones that did get the tab were cautiously happy, but now its all changed..

was at work (crazy busy shift) while this was all happening. kept checking the portal and sdn and reading everyone’s comments. Got the tab, and my logical side said it’s just a mistake (u hear ab admissions notification mistakes all the time). but couldn’t help but feel a bit of excitement/hope. Even looked up some info ab the residency i applied for. and above all truly felt some relief (financial burden possibly gone). And then i get the email that they are “sorry for the confusion.” To them it’s confusion, to me and many others who saw that tab and also those who didn’t, it’s years of work, immeasurable stress, pressure, and obstacle coming to a final point. It’s more than just an error.

but to finish my point: none of us reading this thread today got to this point by being handed anything. It takes resilience, and a lot of determination to get here. So this is just another curveball thrown our way. we Take it, we keep our chins up, and we continue forward. Like we always have. See you all tuesday for real celebrations (fingers crossed)!

“We are delighted to inform you that we have correctly enabled the portal to display your admission decision. It is a Partial Rejection (PR) which means nothing but hopefully prolongs your anxiety and accelerates your mental health decline. All further communications will be conducted through Wordle.”

So...I guess those of us with post-II holds should just get off our hopium? Like at this point are we batting for the waitlist of a waitlist or just a soft R?

Not on hold, but I think its a soft R. With the two different types of pools, I am inclined to think that they have more than enough people to fill their upcoming class with these two pools alone.

Then again, hope I am wrong. Let's hope the final pools are small and the waitlist has tons of movement 🙏

yeah you're probably right with the soft R. I just think it's frustrating and ironic that they emphasize a transparent process but ends up being the school with one of the most stressful and confusing process. I feel like everything they do is for yield protection which makes me curious about how their previous application cycles went...

So if we did not get their updates on the glitch, we did not get the wrong letter yesterday? Checked yesterday morning before 9 and no way to know whether that happened at all lol

I think so, that they only emailed those that got a glitch. It seems that they also accidentally handed out waitlist spots and nobody saw that here, or the only decisions they render are As and WLs based on the email they sent us.

It also may be a blessing in disguise to not have read an acceptance letter with your name on it to then be told it was all a mistake 😭

Actually it seems like someone that didnt have a glitch also got an email? And did anyone report WL on their portals? Didnt see those in these posts (correct me if im wrong!)

None of us got a waitlist email, but it's possible that this person received an email but did not check their portal while the admissions decision tab was up. I could be mistaken tho idk if they said otherwise!!!

Don't want to further confuse all of us on this thread, but saw this post from last year and found it to be kinda interesting and possibly relevant to our situation?

Because @whataweirdo inspired me to dig into last year's thread again... and because I'm waiting for my benadryl to kick in (I broke out in hives Wednesday afternoon. Coincidence? I think not)... i present a summary of A/WL/R timelines.

Calls went out by specialty in mid March (obv we know some lucky souls will get a call next Tues/Wednesday). The following week, the first round of WL decisions went out. Many applicants still in the "final pool" hadn't heard back one way or another. Applicants were pulled off the first round waitlist, and then second round WL emails and R emails went out. There was WL movement until May, but ofc fewer seats does just mean less movement in general. Of course, last cycle was different cos of COVID, and given how new the school is, they may be trying new admissions procedures each year. But we may have to buckle up for a long wait for those of us that don't get a call next week. Not hearing back may not mean that we've been rejected!

I'm so sorry. Today it's just the standard SDN fare on the NYULISOM menu
no don’t be sorry, nothing against anyone. i’m pretty active on the page too. just know that the track record shows it’s prob not gonna be any good news i’m about to read lol

I think next Thursday when we have digested our emotions and things have settled down we will all be glad to catch a slight break from this forum haha

Though I see you on some other threads too so you won't be rid of me! Insert evil laughter here

This is the first final pool year if I'm correct? Just checking, not that it really changes anything haha

First of all thank you for doing the legwork on this, well done.

For this cycle, LISOM stated that if we are accepted we will find out Tues/Weds. But if we’re anything besides accepted (so waitlisted, rejected, defenestrated etc) we’ll find out at some unspecified future date, correct? Or did they say they would let WL applicants know on tues/weds as well?

tbh it’s just as likely the school will transfer 7 Bitcoin to each of our bank accounts and withdraw it ten minutes later then mass text every applicant the Crying Jordan meme (but plot twist turns out only Gemini applicants with fire placements got the text) then invite us to a debriefing webinar, for which they will send a broken link.

it’s anyone’s guess!

I messed up the formatting of this and idk how to fix it lol

Based on the wording of the email we got on Thursday, I think they'll be issuing either acceptances or As and WLs next week. It seems that some people got a WL decision tab on their end, they may not be on SDN or not have seen it in time. Regardless, even if some are waitlisted next week, that might not be the entire waitlist because last year students were waitlisted in waves as others declined their spots

Thank you for clarifying!
I will say that each cycle, this school has had different procedures. In the 2019-2020 cycle, they issued post-II As and Rs at various points throughout the cycle. Last year, they had two A rounds (one of 24, then a smaller one when intial As were declined) and multiple WL rounds. This cycle we have the final consideration pool (maybe a top pool), and holds. So I really am just speculating cos things change each year. Fortunately, we're nearing the end of all this, and if people are WLed next week, they can share any procedures that the school tells them to keep us all in the know.

Happy Valentines Day NYULISOM friends! I hope you are all able to do one thing, big or small, to show yourselves some LOVE today ahead of tomorrow and Wednesday. This has been such an emotionally draining application cycle, particularly for this school, so I hope we can all find some peace and grace for ourselves today before decisions go out. And ofc, if anybody wants to vent/decompress but doesn't want to add a lot of emotion to this thread, my PMs are always open 🙂 Have a piece of chocolate or a whole freaking box. You all deserve it
