2021-2022 Pittsburgh

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also silence for MSTP (secondary complete 8/12). Received a Pre-II R in August the last time I applied. I think they're just getting started with MSTP II's (based on correspondence with faculty).
I think they are towards the end for MSTP IIs. Check the SDN for physician-scientists. There have been interview invites sent out since August or September.

Can people who already interviewed be rejected post-interview before January 31st? Or is Jan. 31st the deciding date for everyone who interviewed?
I was told Dec. 31st as the decision day from someone in admissions on my interview day. Have other people been told Jan. 31?

Edit: typo

pre-II R this morning. complete mid-september. URM, LizzyM 77.7, with extensive research experience. very sad... from the looks of this forum they've sent out most of their interview invites already, so i expected this 🙁

Pre-II R here too, OOS, ORM, LM 72.4, with some research experience and 2 publications. Kind of sad, but understandable, I locate quite far away from this school considering all my IIs and acceptance so far are from school very nearby...

First R of the cycle for me 🙁

Seems logical given that this was my reach school and they supposedly gave out most of their invites already, but it still stings for some reason lol

First R for me as well of probably many R's to come soon. Lizzy M ~81, ORM, OOS, several pubs, complete mid sept. Sad life...

Edit: Does anyone know if they offer feedback? The cycle is going downhill for me and I honestly don't know what's wrong with my app so any feedback would be super useful.

The first R definitely stings the most imo

I interviewed at Pitt back in September, do yall think sending an update letter/letter of interest would be a good move before they send out decisions in January?

I'm sure you'll get different opinions but I would think you should, especially if they are a top school for you and you have something important to update. Double check that they accept them though, I haven't looked into super deep with Pitt yet to know if they do or not.

They do, they prefer them in pdf attachments to emails to the admissions email ([email protected]) and include AAMC id and such.

you will see updates in your portal on the status page after they upload them

When do you plan on submitting yours? Like when do you believe they will deliberate on all our cases to make decisions prior to January?

I think as early as possible is better. Even if they deliberate in January, they're going to bring up your whole file. It doesn't seem like doing it later has an advantage if you have a real update now.

That's completely fair! I have a publication under review right now, so I just didn't want to feel like I was spamming them if I update them now and then sometime in December.

anyone else submit an app for the PSTP?

Yes! I know they mentioned starting screening in mid-November, but I wonder when we'll hear back
I got an email from the program director in like October after i submitted that said they are going to start sending invites early December for mid December - early February interviews

Edit: email also said they intend to interview ~45 and last PSTP interview date is Feb 10

Hey all! I interview this week and was just reviewing the schedule. It seems faculty and student interviews are scheduled about an hour apart. Do they last that long or is there downtime in between? Thanks!

There is down time in between!

I noticed that in my application portal, it states that I sent a thank you note to my student interviewer, but it doesnt show that I sent one to my faculty interviewer even though I did. For anyone who has sent thank you emails, did the faculty thank you register within your portal?

For me it was the opposite, I only got a response from the faculty. I’m guessing the faculty didn’t forward your email ti the committee

I don't see mine yet in the portal, but I just sent them a couple of days ago. Are you seeing that under the status tab?

yeah, i interviewed back in Sept, sent letters to both faculty and student interviewer, and still don't see anything in my portal.

I also don't see anything in my portal about my thank you letters - do you think it's worth emailing the admissions commitee about?

I apologize if this has been answered before but I am interviewing tomorrow and would appreciate any last minute advice from anyone who has interviewed this cycle!

Pitt absolutely loves research to a larger degree than suggested by its secondary. Focus on both that and what you would bring to the school.

+1 All MDs are required to do research projects. Definitely be able to mention things you like about their curriculum to show that you’ve done your research on them.

Does everyone's status stay at "MD Interview scheduled" or will that change at some point? I interviewed about two weeks ago

Can anyone who has interviewed share tips/advice for the group exercise?
It will be a decently small group. I would say just make sure that you are sharing equally as much as everyone else. Support your group members and don't try to overlead. It is not a time for just you to shine. Put in effort to make your fellow applicants also shine as that reflects well on you as a person. Also encourage people to speak if they have not spoken. Do not leave people out in an effort to make yourself look more intelligent or knowledgeable. Be humble 🙂 It is a fun exercise and very interesting.

Interviewed back in August, and my status says "Your MD application is complete and under review."
